^ did you read the rest of allanfan's post? Personally I believe jay williams has a great nba career in front of him. But we are stacked there and have our own "super" draft pick to develop, mr. nate robinson. We have no chance whatsoever in acquiring him.
we have stephon, nate, craw, penny at the 1 spot. 4 deep.

IMHO, Steph will move to pure 2 and Penny will not be part of the team. Steph IMHO, will be moved to an allen iversen type role 2 G, where he has the ability to play make, but has the green light to shoot first. We need a third PG, especially with stephs knees.

if you look at our guards in general

we have
nate
steph
craw

Q can play 2-3
allan and penny arent going to be here, or they should not be here and I really believe isiah will NOT have them here

OMG; I agree with Briggs
You don't worry about depth at a position when you're just offering a very small contract to a young player who might crack the rotation. You go for the BPA. Marbury will probably play 2 and isn't relevant to the discussion anyway.

I don't disagree. I would love it to happen. I just don't see it happening. If it does happen though, give me my teaspoon please. :-P

The point of my post isn't that the Knicks couldn't benefit by signing him, it's that it would seem more likely that Williams would want to sign with a team that had less depth at guard.

I don't see Jay william being on the Knick's radar, I think they are (And should be.) looking for front-court help.

Also, Jay Williams only had an average rookie season, considering where he was picked (#2). He was a poor shooter, and a poor defensive player.

IMO, as an NBA player, he seemed just a tad small for his game. But who knows? There is no denying his talent, but can he physically perform at the NBA level again?

One thing that may make this area attractive to him is that he is from Jersey, but then, might he not seek out the Nets?

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I think nate might be better.

But- lets say nate does well- perhaps he is traded in a package near the deadline- then you need that pg to back up craw & marbs.

But- he would be wise to go to a team that can use him right away...

exactly. Well said Rich, there is no controversy here for the most part. A good majority of us think the knicks could benefit, but jay williams will look at the knicks and ask himself how many minutes a game he will get. And the answer is not a lot.

How many minutes will he command? he hasnt played one minute of organized basketball in 2 years. Even if he went to the Hornets, you think hed be playing 40 minutes? There is PT here that is suitable for a player like J> Im sure, no Im positive that Isiah would be aggresive going aftre this player and having a great chance at landing him for the LLE. He worked out for miami yesterday

I'd love to give J Williams a shot, but...

Why do we have to go after EVERY available player that might have some promise? I'd like to see the Knicks settle down and see what they have here, try to develop some team chemistry.

They said the guy is dunking again. That would be amazing considering he nearly lost the damn leg. He'll probably go to a contending team needing a back up point.

Ex-Bull Williams going cheap
Raptors, others show an interest

Working out today with Rockets

DOUG SMITH
SPORTS REPORTER

Money won't be the determining factor when it comes time for Jay Williams to sign with a new NBA team and that's good for the Raptors because they don't have much money to pay him.

However, Williams's agent said yesterday a couple of teams with much more on-court power are interested in the one-time Chicago Bull.

Williams, who missed the last two seasons recovering from a near-fatal motorcycle accident, is working out today with the Houston Rockets and has already auditioned for the Miami Heat.

"We're looking for the right situation where a team can be patient," Billy Duffy said in a telephone interview yesterday. "I think he's probably 80 per cent there. We think he'll be all the way back by Christmas, maybe the all-star break."

Williams, 24, was injured in a motorcycle accident in June 2003 and hasn't played since. Raptor general manager Rob Babcock has been watching his rehabilitation for the last 18 months, Duffy said, and saw the 6-foot-2, 188-pound guard work out last week.

But, because the Raptors have 14 players with guaranteed contracts that push the team's payroll perilously close to the NBA luxury tax level of $61.7 million (all figures U.S.), Toronto isn't able to offer more than the league-minimum salary, which for a player with Williams's experience wouldn't top $500,000 per season.

Duffy, however, said finding the right fit for his client is more important than salary.

If it is true and J Williams is all right, we should sign him as the third PG
