JVG cuz he drove a beater Civic and he wore his heart on his sleeve

He did everything it took to succeed and he was a total workhorse, not like some lazy mofos that have graced the New York sports teams in the past decade or so

here are my top three:

3.) rick pitino- that team was lightning on the court with jax at the helm and wilkens and newman running wing. ewing had his best scoring years during this time( even though his best scoring year was with stu jackson.). didn't play much defense though.

2.) jeff van gundy- at first i wanted him fired so we could bring in jackson and for the long run maybe we should have. but he was the one coach who make chicken salad out of chicken s@#t. no matter what team he had otu there he had them winning. whether it was ewing going down for most of the year in 98 and still beating miami in the playoffs or leading a supposedly selfish team that barely made it to the playoffs to the finals in 99, jeff van gundy will always have a head engraved in the mount rushmore of knick coaches.

3.) pat riley- some people would put van gundy above riley and i wouldn't blame them. but i have to put the teacher above the student until that pupil equals or exceeds them in success( like three championship rings). riley single handedly changed the face of the knicks and made them one of the dominant teams for almost a decade. he changed his coaching style according to the teams personell which is something that i do not think any coach can successfully do.

Yeah, don't worry. The trend will catch on soon enough.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Riley, Van Gundy, Pittino in that order.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Riles hands down. I'd take him now.

over Larry Brown???

Yup. Nothing against Brown, but, Riles is in a class above him.

wow, tough statement. I would put Riles and LB in the same class. In recent years, Jackson, Pop, and Rudy T would follow.

Riles was a top coach back in the day but his last few years in MIA he seemed to have lost a bit of his touch imho...i think right now, if i had to pick, i'd have to take LB over any other coach in the league, & that includes Jax & Pop.

I would rank Auerbach, Jackson, and Riley above all, then comes the group with Pop, LB, Daly, Holtzman...it's not a slight at LB at all, but Riley, except for those last couple of years with the Heat was better than all but Jackson and Aurebach.

man, until Jackson can show me that he can coach pro ball without the 2 best players in the NBA (twice) I hold him out of the top tier group. It'll be very interesting this year.

For me it's Pitino. The Knicks played a fast paced offensive style, and there was hope for the future because Patrick, Oak, Jackson, and Wilkens were young and on the way up.

After loosing to the knicks damn near every year in the playoffs, your blabber would fall on deaf ears to.

Red hltzmn is the obvious choice, even though i never witness one game he coach. Geez thats an easy one

LOL I think the Fakers will pile up significant losses this year, while having tons of negative press heaped upon their buckling shoulders. Phil's gonna need Dr. Phil after the reality gut-check that team will face this year. I will revel in their anguish, and love every second of it.
