If you needed a 2 who could play some 3 for the next 2 to 3 seasons - contracts aside who would you rather have?

So the argument for Q being unquestionably the choice is that his best year is similar to Finley's worst year? Uhh yeah, ok.

Finley is just not what this team needs.

We are not contending for anything within the next 2-3 years.

Finley MIGHT be better this year. I think he wount. But by the time we are competing he will be totally done.

Was Finley's career much much better then Q's so far in the respective career splices? Absolutley, but Q is just enternig his prime while Finley is declining rapidly.

Q will prolly never be even close to being as good as Fin was in his hayday, but he is better then a Finley hampered by injuries and approaching the twilight of his career.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Briggs you said you wanted nothing to do with Finley during the past season. Now we have Q and you're saying old man Finley would be a better option? Maybe for a year or 2 but we're not winning with Finley in a year or 2

look, finley was a top-flight swingman. Q is a good complementary player. the comparison isn't fair if you're looking at career bests since they have different roles and expectations. Q has his best years ahead of him, finley's career is winding up. we're good with what we have.

i wholeheartedly believe the kurt deal was more for nate than q.
i think q is a leading candidate to get moved, over crawford and marbury.

Good comparison.

They are truly the same type of player. I think Q can become what Finley was a few years ago. Q is still young and probably is ready to turn that corner.....I sure hope so.

Briggs, do you realize there are other aspects to evaluate players on besides FG% or is that the one and only aspect you care about?

Why are people who criticize Isiah SO sensitive about being called a hater? Some posters think you're haters. Who cares?

Maybe it's because the truth hurts.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Nah, it doesn't bother me. I assume it's used in good nature and if it's not, I have more important things to care about.

he's got a point briggs. And finley was a shell of his former self 2 years ago, Q is just starting out

if you make a blind statement, atleast take the time to look at the facts.

Mike Finley 18.6 pts 4.5 reb 3a shooting 44.4%

again, Q rich is the player who has a lot to proove, lets see if he even plays 20 minutes a game.
Q got 36 mpg on a 62 win team last year and is gonna struggle to get 20 on our team? I just can't understand that reasoning. It's not like he had less competition for minutes on the other team. At SF and SG they had an olympian in Shawn Marion, a now max player in Joe Johnson, and a solid role player in Jimmy Jackson. (They even played their olympian Marion out of position at PF just so that they could keep Q on the floor as a starter.)

Bonn your argument is beyond idiotic on this issue.

Marion played PF all year, as a starter at the 4. JJ played the 2 also all year.

The had one guy to back up both JJ and Q, in Jackson. No wonder Q played so many minutes.

The Suns had vitually no bench outside of Jackson.

I agree with everything you said (except for the part about my argument being idiotic!) I don't see anything you said that contradicts anything I said.

I think Finley may still be the better player and Finley would help the team win more in the short term, but over the long haul, I'd rather have Q. That's one of Isiah's moves that I actually liked.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

It's kind of a weird question, b/c with his frame and all, Q should already be the much better player, but lets not look at the stats for one sec and just compare their games together.

Looking at last year, Finley lost a step or 2 but was still a solid fundamental defender. Q was not a good defender AT ALL. Q grabbed more rebounds and scored more points, but Finley was much smarter and played with a higher FG% with much less shots per game and on the season. In retrospect, you can say that Finley did have a better year than Q based on that, however, you have to look at the years ahead of us and realize that Q is the better player to have, based on potential. If he starts playing and concentrating on defense more, and posts up and even improves his mid range game, he'll be in good shape. Real good shape. But if he doesn't do any of that, then he's what djsunyc said: outta here even before Marbury and Crawford. Probably the first to go. I hope like hell he chooses to play that "Nasty" game he talked about after the trade, b/c if he doesn't, then he may very well be just as much a fugazy as Tim Thomas with all that talk.

17 - 3...looking more and more like a dumb question.

Ask it on a non NY Knicks fan site and it's probably 17-3 the other way. There are no dumb questions, just dumb homer remarks based on nothing more than whose uniform a player is wearing.
17-3 the other way? LOL. I posted the same poll on the realgm player comparisons forum (which is a non-knicks forum) and Q has had a lead of between 10 to 20 percent so far. (There are currently 18 votes total.) This looks like another example of the pessimists simply being inaccurate.

I think that brandy may have something to say about him doing whatever it takes to stay on Broadway. While I'm sure she loved the retirement community of sedona out in arizona, there's nothing like a wife in entertainment.

I think he will be a scoring machine...with JJ in the paint, I'm not too concerned with his defense. We've got guys on the bench in Ariza, etc. that would be more than willing to come in and shut down his man.

Maybe; Q was 24 for most of last season. He hasn't reached the age when most players peak and all but one of his NBA seasons were on a terribly run team.
Finley's still young (31 for most of last season). A lot of players at that age are only a little below their primes.
