Well... if I had to choose between JYD and Rose-- I'd choose Rose. He's a more versatile defender (excellent lateral movement and lower body strength-- can guard centers effectively for stretches), has a servicable medium range jumper and has tons of playoff/championship experience (82 games).


JYD on the other hand... runs the floor better and plays a scrappier brand of basketball (you see it in his steals). His jumper is an order of magnitude worse than Rose's (who's merely servicable), so he's really just a defensive specialist. Relatively little playoff experience (25 games, none in years).

The final straw in such a decision would be who offers the most duplication in skills...
David Lee has often been compared to JYD here on this board--- he has the potential to be a better Jerome Williams (better jump shot, better passer).

For christ sakes, we are waiving JYD, stop overrating this guy as a defensive juggernaut. Offensively he is atrocious, he is a decent defender and good rebounder, but to be honest, the guys bark is bigger than his bite. He has a decent game, to me it is a coin toss to waive either he or MO taylor, but nothing to even think about, neither guy should be getting a lot of burn. And I don't care about experience, I much rather give the playing time to guys like Butler and Lee and frye, period... JYD is not going to win us 1 game more. I rather keep taylor for the simple reason that he can play in the post, and the last time I checked we are weak in that area until frye and Sweetney can prove otherwise..

Agreed, waiving JYD over Shan is really stupid. I don't JYD would have a problem sitting for the rookies to play and he's a good option if you need him.

Waiving JYD is beyond moronic. He's one of the few players on the roster that actually plays defense and takes pride in it. Shandon is already gone and stuck on the cap until his contract expires so he's the only person they should even consider using the amnesty clause on.

Pharzone, you really are an idiot cuz if you've been reading my posts like you're pretending to have done you'd know that JYD is 1 of the few players on this team that i've always wanted to retain from last year...but it's ok...you don't have to comment on what i actually post...keep making up your own notions & calling me out as a hater...it's more entertaining.

CORRECTION...it might have been the year before...the MIL game was when they came back from that 21 point 3rd quarter deficit to win the game, & the PHI comeback win was when Houston hit that last second 3 to tie it up, but JYD was the guy who sparked that comeback.

those were not meaningless games played down the stretch when the Knicks were already out of the running...just an FYI...Mo T's done absolutely nothing for this team...he should be cut if any player's going to be

Knicks Waive Jerome Williams

NEW YORK, August 15, 2005 – New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that forward Jerome Williams has been waived as the designated player for the amnesty provision under the NBA’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The provision allows a team to release a player and remove his contract amount from the team’s salary cap for purposes of calculating the luxury tax. The Knicks will be responsible for the remaining years of Williams’ contract and he is free to sign with another team.

Williams, 6-9, 220-pounds, averaged 4.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 15.3 minutes in 79 games last season for New York. The 32-year-old Washington, D.C.-native has career averages of 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in 587 games for four teams.

another IDIOTIC move by Isiah...he waives JYD & gets rid of 1 of the few players who plays w/hustle every game on this team instead of the contract of Shandon Anderson, who expires the same year & isn't even on the active roster anymore.

nice plan Isiah...we're clearly on our way towards a championship.

Unless he's got a bad injury that we don't know of, THIS MOVE STINKS as bad as the Taylor acquisition move.

What the **** is Isiah doing? He should have waived Shandon's contract.

yeah as much as I like what JYD brings over those other guys Lee & Ariza should provide us with the same intangibles. It came down to keeping the more skilled player

His contract has team option for 07/08 for $7.05mm. Will this be included in the buyout? Or is he getting just $12.5mm for 05/06 & 06/07?
