Diop would be a nice pick up. Dude can block shots. That is a given. He is not a stiff either he just has no basketball IQ.....meaning he has no clue what he should be doing until someone drives the lane. I would love to give him a chance. LLE is what he is worth.

Butler by the way is a power fwd. He showed me enough to believe in him during the summer league. He's a nasty, kind of a throw back player. I would love to see him eventually get in the Knicks rotation over Rose, JYD and Taylor. Butler is coming along nicely.

After today's article, the news is out that the Knicks worked him out... LLE is safe enough to add more shotblocks.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

From today's Post:
The Knicks have interest in 7-foot, 280-pound free-agent center DeSagana Diop and they worked him out yesterday in Westchester.

He averaged just 7.5 minutes per game last season, averaging one point and one rebound, but he's only 23.

Who broke the story on realgm? I'm guessing it was zeke206.

Anyways, Diop gets a big 'whatever' from me. We don't have roster space for this guy and yes, he'd be a bigger project than Butler. Guess it can't hurt to take a 1 year, LLE flier but the odds of a real payoff seem astronomically slim.

Diop is 7'0". Diop is young (23). Diop is a C.

Im ok, give him a try, what do we lose? Get him for the LLE and if it doesn't work out, sorry for him, we move on.

And whats the issue with Butler vs. Diop? Butler is a PF, unfortunately. But he shoewd something in SL to be worth keeping around. If you don't keep him in the NBA, send him to the NBDL while they experiment with Diop. He wont get any PT with our PFs so its not really a concern...

Except on this board, I have never seen Butler considered as a PF anywhere. (Well, people already consider Frye a PF)

I love Zeke's approach this season. He knows that we need size and he is trying his best to address it. Diop was a first round pick and needs good coaching to get him to play some good basketball. There were some of you who wanted to have Kwame in N.Y. for a lot more, why not give Diop a chance for a very cheap price?

I'm willing to give Diop that chance. Under Larry's tutelage, he can become a solid contributor off the bench for us.

we should totally get Diop... let's see if he has any game under Larry. We need size.

We don't need him for any offense, so if we can focus on working with him to improve his D, then it would be worth it. He basically has to learn the same things JJ does. How not to foul. Just be a presence and get those hands up, then blockout your man for the rebound. If we're successful in doin that much then he'd be worth it.

I think if we get Diop we'll finally be getting another first round draft pick type of player - and I don't think that's what jackie butler is, even though many people here disagree. I think Diop has much better size and much more potential - cleveland also has not been very good at developing their young players - this year luke jackson didn't do very well and i think a lot more was expected from anderson varejao even though he had some good showings. Dajuan wagner was a major bust even though some of that can be chalked up to injury. Diop would also get a good amount of time because I don't think Jerome James is going to be out on the court more than 20 minutes because of foul trouble and I also think Frye will have difficulties playing the 5. All that being said, Diop has been in the league and has bust written all over him, but for a small amount of money there's really no risk in getting him. it really can't be worse than playing mo taylor or sweetney at center for 5 minutes a game.

we'll see about that when Bynum posts between rookie numbers than the 22yr old Frye as a 18yr old as a Laker

I'm surprised at you guns! All that talk of Bynum b4, I'd think you'd be happy about the possibility of adding Diop.

Realgm has a quote from the Dallas Morning News saying that the Mavs are also interested in Diop
