Amnesty Clause hits LA. 1st casualty, Brain Grant.

http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/grant_waived_050810.html
The Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward Brian Grant, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. The team also announced that Grant will be designated as the team’s amnesty player as allowed in the new collective bargaining agreement.

Allan Houston has to go. Sorry. He has 2 replacements here already and Isiah might still make a trade somewhere to get another one. Houston has no role on this team.

Waive him and move on. Talking about him just shows the world what lame franchise we have. Houston is not Tracy McGrady or Vince Carter....He's also not Kobe Byant.....yet Houston is paid more than all of them. Close the Door on this. Continue the possitive rebuilding of this franchise and let's get on with our lives.

We should ban this topic.

Isiah better waive Houston. Maybe they are trying to find a better way to do it but anyway you look at it he serves no purpose.

Bottom line there is no other player worth using this unique rule on. All of our other players can be traded cuz they are relatively worth what they are getting.

I think they are holding out for Houston to retire which would grant them far more relief than the amnesty clause. My guess is they use it on Shandon and save that $15mm, then hope they can convince Houston to retire.

I am stealing this from CTKnicksFan from another thread:
3. Luxury Tax Amnestry Provision (Allan Houston Rule): Up through August 15, teams will be given a one-time opportunity to waive one player and eliminate the luxury tax on any future contractual payments to that player. The salary will still count towards the salary cap, and payment will still have to be paid to the player according to the contract, but the team will not be subject to tax on that player’s contract. This provision will also apply to previously waived players, but not players traded for after June 21st.

This means luxury tax is already exempt from Shandon's contract since he was previously waived. Logical alternative is Penny or Mo T.

No, I think it means that the luxury tax can be applied to Shandon. "This provision will also apply to previously waived players" means that the amnesty rule can be applied to players like Shandon that have already been waived.
