very good point.

---->I love the part where he states trading Q not to get cap space... how would he say otherwise, we did get some capsapce but a crappy town with a crappy team destroyed my genius plan ? lol

some people live in fantasy worlds or just may not believe that they didn't like Q. The Pheonix Suns took ON more salary by trading for Kurt Thomas, paying the 3mm$ trade kicker and then signing raja Bell.

If KT is an average of
7mm per year
Raja is 5mm per year ANd they paid out 3mm for the trade kicker
thats 15 MILLION compared to Q rich's salary of 6.5
this year. That means they took on substantial salary. I mean using common sense and basic math--where did they save money here? they are paying out much more! Q has shot below 40% now for 3 years--do you think it is possible that giving us pick 21 and paying the trade kicker and taking on more salary--perhaps they realized they didnt like the player????? Nate Robinson is going to be a fine player for us, but to the Suns, isnt that just pick 21 in the draft? They do have the mVP of the leauge playing PG and a pretty good back up in Barbosa--so while any team in the league couldve used nate, does it seem plausible that he wasnt even on their radar? Supposedly they had lost interest in the draft after Ike Diogu was off the board--maybe this is why they gave the pick up this year? Trades have two sides--we will have to see for ourselves what Q rich is, but to the Suns --obviously he was a guy that they realized they didnt want. We tried to get anyone to take KT and all of a sudden there throwing a pick at us + Q rich? They may not win 62 games, that type of winning is nuts, but anyone who thinks a team that has Amare Stoudemire Marion and Nash as a core is going to break down are crazy. The Knicks are better than the Suns now? get real
No one is saying that Briggs, you miss the point. The Suns are far worst than what they were last season. And if you asked people in the know, they were pushing real hard just to finish last season on a strong note while the Spurs had injuries and still finish strong. The Suns were fortunate that they didn't have real big men to deal with in the playoffs and when they finally ran into some, it hurt them. Now I don't know where you put KT in the line of big men but while I think he was a solid KNick I don't think of him as being dominant. I think if he has to play guys like KG, Duncan, Ming and Dirk on a regular basis he will be really expose. He has lost a lot of lateral quickness over the years (I think it is extra weight he is carrying as much as him getting older). Bell is a nice pick up but he is only good in spots and not meant to be long term fix. I think this CBA is what caused the Suns ownership to get rid of Q, it really punishes teams over the luxury tax and with Marion contract coming up, there was no way that the Suns were going to be able to max out 3 players, keep Nash's contract and still have Q's contract and pay that luxury tax. Q was the expendable guy, while they were confident that JJ would return. Now they have egg on their face. If they could take a mulligan and get Q back don't you think they would knowing what JJ plan was all along. Do you think they really believed that KT was the answered to all their problems, or that Dijion will fill a void.

blah blah blah this makes no sense whatsoever.

why because it disagree with your thought that the Suns just wanted to drop Q no matter what. That is sort of silly after just signing him one year before that doesn't make any sense.

The Knicks are better than the Suns now? get real

please briggs, for once read the post you're replying to.

nobody ever said that.

now it'd may be your turn to get real.

Why do other gms make good decisions while the knicks would not ?

Is it so hard to accept that for once, mr magic touch collangelo mcould have made a mistake ?

comon, KT was nothing but stats.
good defender maybe, but with no influence on the game.
good jumper but that 's not what you need from the 4.
we all knew KT was not a starter in this league, so don't act as if we got f..... again.

Q was badly misused in phonexi. no postups, only perimeter shooting. they got him paid him and then, wow, relaized they had no need for him.

How many options did they have ? right, not that much. They'll be in cap hell soon enough with no NY knicks type means to get out of the hole.

Soon nash will break down, JJ a Q left and whoever think they can replace him with bell and Jim Jackson is totally insane.

The knicks front office can do good things briggs. With all repsect, you most often than not post great analysis, but you're not always right on everything.

a team with amare stoudemire, steve nash and shawn marion--if they played with 7 scrubs would win 50+ games. who knows what happens last year if JJ doesnt get hurt. So they go out and get another quality big man--KT and depth--they lose Q--oh my--and even if they lose JJ-which is now in serious doubt, they get compensated with basically TWO unretricted picks from a shtty atlanta team not bad having amare stoudemire on their team is better than having 12 current knicks and if you understand basketball, you know what Im saying.

Dude, when JJ went out last year in the playoffs with his injury, the Suns, the media were talking about JJ like he was the mesiah. I mean Nash was the MVP but they were more concern that JJ wasn't there to take care of Parker. You're right this may be a moot point because of Belkin but I think for that one series you saw what type of impact that JJ had on that team. I think that what Nash did was overhyped, so I am not going to start that argument again but there is no doubt in mind if JJ does not return to that team they will be seriously hurt while Bell helps you on defense his scoring is so streaky and is no where near the outside threat as JJ. Unless you telling me the even more streaky Thompson will be the answer I say you have a problem when you rely on outside shooting to do your damage. As far as KT, we will see how he will grind it out playing a much much more up tempo style on a nightly basis against fluid big men.

Yeah, I do think the Suns were in a hurry to dump Q, I think that's quite obvious. A SG who cant shoot real well, cant handle the ball and doesnt play defense. They probably thought he'd mesh in there better with Nash. Maybe he will go back to form of 4 years ago. Remember the Knicks have Yoda, I mean Mark Aquire and he can fix anyone. Hes going to make BIG GAME go from 3 rebounds to 12 bIG GAME will probably average 9 points 12 rebounds 3 blocks in 23 minutes. And Q will be in the upper 40 range.

if the suns were being so concerned about cap space, why not try to dump marion on us for a TT or Penny type deal, and then keep JJ?

Perhaps they are doing what some other good GMs have done and thats get value for players when they still can, and re-tool.

Perhaps they take a step back this year, but they retool for next year?

I don't know, I thought JJ was a solid player.

Let me see, they have the best pG who was the MVP, they have a guy who can be labeled the best frontcourt player in the league, they have a double double machine in shawn marion. Thats all you need--fill in the blanks there. They won 62 games last year. Q Rich is NOT a big loss and now they may also get back Johnson add Raja bell and KT. Even if they lose Johnson, they get Diaw who is perfect for that style of play. Count them as serious title contenders for as long as Nash is healthy.

Why not loose Marion instead of JJ?

I don't think so, but we may end up finding out the answer to that next season if they lose Joe Johnson.
who knows what happens last year if JJ doesnt get hurt.
I know, they get bumped by SA just like they did.

Those two picks are good, but in 2009 who knows what at least one of them will be? KT is like 33 and his quality is declining although he has proven quite durable. We'll see how he fits but its a big '?' at this point.

You don't sign a player for 6 years if you don't like him. And its not like he had a bad season with them either, he played welll in their system. It was a good trade for us and a bad one for them no matter how you spin it. Q + Nate are way better than KT any way you wanna spin that. Ike Diogu or whatever, only a really stupid franchise only likes 1 player in a draft. Especially in one as deep as this one was. You are bending over backwards for them to be 'right' or 'smart' on this one.

Lets not get outrageous with Amare. He was on a team with 2 other all-stars and they didn't get to the finals and didn't even get to 6 games in the WCF. Lets not get crazy, he is sick, he is what he is, but with all that he is and with how good their team was, he and the MVP and another all-star couldn't push the series to 6 at least?

Steph's suns pushed them to 5 in the first round a few years back and that was also a year San Antonio won the title. Amare is the real deal, but he is not Shaq, he dominated the series and it all added up to 1 win in the ECF.
