That statement from James doesn't really sound to me like he is calling Shaq out (although it certainly can be taken out of context). Either way I don't care if a player talks as long as he can back it up.

I love hearing that Big Game Knick James said that.

We need players who play it like they say it. I look forward to James' effort on the court this year.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Knowledge, for knowledge sake

"I wish I could play Shaq every night," James said. "At least playing him every night I'm going up against another 7-footer I can use my strength against and not worry about fouling out of the game."

Ok so he's just a moron then for thinking that when he plays against Shaq he doesn't have to worry about fouling out of the game. Yeah, Shaq never draws fouls against other big men, especially clumsy foul prone ones like JJ.

You got me there. 8.5 minutes and 05 points against Miami. Yeah, I'm sure we all wish he played every game against Shaq with numbers like that. Well worth $30M over 5 years.

does anyone really believe shaquille o'neal gives 2 (fill in your expletives here) about jerome big game james ina any way shape or manner whatsoever?

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

Shaq is a warrior. Jerome James is a bum. Even if Shaq wanted to "get up" for James and his popcorn comments, he couldn't.

Put it this way, Shaq is the Blockbuster movie of the Summer. Jerome James works at the concession stand

Thing is... if James fouls out playing against Shaq, they'll be real fouls, not of the tick tacky variety.

I think you guys are taking this way out of proportion. james is not a talker and isn't likely to talk smack to a guy like Shaq. I do like his wanting to have bigger role and I think under Larry Brown, he can be successful. I think you have to remember that he has VERY little basketball experience. He's just now starting to get the hang of playing his position. I expect that he'll still have bad games, but on the whole I think he'll do very well for this team.

For one thing I think it will help him that the whole team plays better on D. He probably got into a lot of foul trouble just trying to cover mistakes by his Sonic teammates. LB will not likely let that kind of thing happen on a regular basis.

I don't have a problem with his statement nor did I have a problem with Steph's statement last yr. I think he said it in the heat of the moment after being egged on by the media, who constantly want him to say Kidd is this great PG, whenever they play against each other. I mean come on man. What great player ever wants to admit someone is better than they are. IF they had equal talent i'd like to see how that matchup goes, up til now its mostly been Kidd with the better talent around him. i think its still in Kidd's favor, but now the teams are a bit closer in overall talent and at least the Knicks should be competitive. It like saying Nash is so much better than Steph, yet its a team game and guys on their level are so close that having better teammates and even coaching will make a huge difference in the success a player has. Steph is now going to be in a good situation for the next few years and its time for him to reach his considerable potential. Lets show some patience tho, cuz I know some of you fickle fans will want to jump all over him the second the team looks bad in its 1st pre season game :)

I think in this case James' words were taken out of context, but the guy does seem to have a habit of running his mouth (especially for a guy averaging 5 and 3)

http://www.kjhk.org/wrap.php?file=sports/blogchavez.html
Following his team's 92-91 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals, James ran his mouth shouting obscenities at the Spurs, later having choice comments about the team that has claimed two championships in six years.

"We have to be much more physical and stop giving them so much respect," James said, "Go right at them. They are a vulnerable team. They didn't go 82-0 this season. They're capable of losing.".

I don't know, maybe some will see stuff like this and just call it a passionate, firey guy. But calling out the best team in the NBA - maybe not the way to go?

one thing for sure...it's New York...and I like it...just like steph's statement.

When I play a video basketball game, I'm picking the knicks because they are the best.

Man, I couldn't have put it better.

When I play NBA Live, the only team I use is the Knicks. Maybe this year they'll give the Knicks better stats.
