It all depends.

With Brown on board my expectations of James have risen, Brown has a talent for coaching dogs with talent, the biggest one of them all being Coleman.

If he stays on the floor for 28 mints he could put up 12 8 and 2. Which would be more then the money he is worth really.

As my sig says, I'm puttin my trust into Brown, hopefully I'm not settin myself up for the same kind of disapointment I went though when IT did not turn to be the savior.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

32 is Herbs old number, right?

I hope he can come in and really shock the world. The dude has all the tools to be a force. It's not like he doesn't have moves. He has a decent jumper whether facing up or out of the post. He passes well and he plays real defense.

All he need is confidence. I'm rooting for this guy. I wanted him to be a Knick for the longest time. I really hope he can make it happen in NY.

edit: Here is a quote that jumps out at me from his press conference today.

“The Knicks are the best move for me at this point in my career,” said James. “I wanted to get to another level. In the past I’ve been very comfortable in a supporting role but I want to hold myself more accountable not only to the game of basketball but also to an organization that wants more from me.”

With all this Kool Aid.....I think I'm gonna need a bigger cup!

Good post...

F a cup, pass me the whole pitcher!

Oak & Mase was the past...
Pat Riley was a great coach.

Big Game James and Sweets is the present...
Larry Brown is a great coach.

...hey, you never know. I'm glass-half-full early for the whole ride on this one.

I think we are OK with skill players and fire power. The NBA is different than it was 5 years ago with the rule changes. In the past having guards as your primary scorer wasnt a great plan unless balanced by post scoring, but now having a perimeter attack isnt bad. What you need to make it work is big bodies to clog, block and rebound. We have seen Wash, Sea, Det, and Dal thrive primary on perimeter scoring.

I like that James and Frye give us legit size to go to. Before it was small small and smaller.

That and they can both run in an uptempo offense. Also, it'll be good to see it get somewhat difficult for the opposition to get open lanes to the basket. There were times last season where the damn red carpet was laid out for cats to just stroll to the hoop. No more.

HE's OUR bum!

James has played seven years of ball. TOTAL. No high school. ball
Three at FAMU and four in the NBA - part-time.

If anyone can teach JJames how to stay on the floor, out of foul trouble and push his minutes into the 25 per night range it's the Knicks staff.

12 boards, 2 blocks and eight points would be marvelous

Let him learn to play the right way

you think jerome james who averaged 3 rebounds in 17 minutes is going to add 9 more in 8 additional minutes? Rebounding is all about quick movement, tenacity and intelligence. 7 years of anything is enough to master skills in whatvere you do. basketball is an easy game--james does not rebound well and he fouls because his reaction time and body movements are slow. that isnt changing with age.

Jerome James #s last year

17 minutes 5 points 3 reb 3.5 fouls

im not worried about big games rebounding, because hes just not a good rebounder--rebounds find him, he doesnt attack the ball, but what he does bring is presence on the D, so my main concern would be keeping him from fouling so much so he can just stay out on the court. Im keeping expectations low for james, if he surprises to the upside great.

Rebounding is all about quick movement, tenacity and intelligence.

Tell that to Oakley.

Oak was tenacious and he was smart but he also was solid like "OAK" and he always boxed out well and kept himself in excelent position. Remember Oakley's verticle was like 8" at best, lmao. Mase was the same way though he was alot more athletic.

My bar for James is still obtainable. I think 12/8/2 is fair for him.

He reminds me of a more hardcore version of Elden Campbell. Campball should have been a dominant center in his career but he was a total punk.

Jerome James is no punk. KT was able to contain his aggression and stay out of foul trouble the last 2-3 years. hopefully Jerome can finally get it together and realize his potential which is probably better than what we think.

Knicks Sign Jerome James

NEW YORK, August 2, 2005 -- New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that center Jerome James has been signed as a free agent. As per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

James, 7-1, 280-pounds, averaged 4.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.39 blocks in 80 regular season starts for the SuperSonics last season, and in addition, averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in 11 NBA Playoff starts. The Tampa, FL-native recorded double-figures in eight of his 11 playoff appearances, and averaged an impressive 17.2 points and 9.4 rebounds versus Sacramento in Seattle first-round 4-1 victory.

Who is that holding the shirt up? And if its Isiah, what the hell did he do to his hair?

actually, of all the things in the NBA rebounding is the hardest to predict why some are great and others stink. The best rebounder ever in Rodman was 6'6, lanky and athletic. Barkley was 6'5 and just a ball of fury. Yao doesnt get it and Shawn Bradley never did, but Camby learned going from 6-7 boards his first few years to 11+ under JVG. KT isnt quick, neither is Fortson but I wouldnt call Reggie Evens or Walker "smart." Why is Brand a horse and Curry a dog? Garnett, Gooden and Dirk and long and snatch dozens, but so are Rahsard Lewis and Ratliff who both just dont grab many.

There just isnt a formula. Some guys use technique, some have a nose for the ball, some are just physical and push everyone out of the way. Some use great length and quickness, other's position and width. The great one's probably some of everything.

NOt really fair to make a statement like that. James suffered not getting rebounds because he played with perimeter players who love to take the 3 point shot, if you are sitting under the basket, and your guys are constantly shooting jumpers you are screwed because those are long rebounds. It's like Riley use to say if you like to shoot the 3 you better love to run after long rebounds too. I think he was referring to Starks.

On sportsdeks this morning I'm pretty sure it was 32.

It was also really early so I might have just not been awake and totally saw a wrong number on the TV screen.

But I'm pretty sure it was 32.

I hope he can put up Nazr numbers when Nazr was here. Plus the 2 blocks a game. Just have him stand by the basket and have Marbury feed him all game long.

11 ppg
10 rpg
2 bpg

Woohoo! BIG GAME JAMES!

I'm curious to see how LB influences Big Game James' defensive game. I think he'll be much better than Nazr as an intimidator down in the low blocks. Too often in seasons past, the opposition would get easy open lanes to the basket. It'll be good to see us make teams work hard for their shots for a change.

Man if I was 7 feet tall, there is no way I would think about averaging under 10 ppg. I would feel insulted that some tiny guy could outscore me. You have to take that stuff personal, fight dirty if need be.
