Oh btw, Hell no to Hill.
I guess DJ needs to update the No Thanks Club

not even for only 2yrs? if you think we should just let TT's contract expire than I could definitely accept not trading for him for Hill. But if you're holding out hope that TT will get us Elton Brand or someone like that than I say trade for Hill if you can then either let his contract expire next year or hope some good players will be available. And I guarantee there will be more good players next year than this year. Unless you consider Steven Francis a good player to use expiring contracts on

Why would the Knicks get Steve Francis?

because he is young, athletic, versatile and the combo guard Isiah is so dearly in love with and because he will likely be the only one available for our expiring contracts this year and we'll make the trade just for the sake of making a splash

I would sincerely hope not when the Knicks already have Steph, Craw and Nate on the roster. I know what your saying though with the way Isiah likes these types of guys, I personally think he's got as many as the roster as he can afford to have and that the only way Francis comes aboard is if Stephon is gone.

No way I take a chance on gimpy Grant Hill. We got burned with Houston, got damaged goods with Penny Hardaway (I guess even knowing it) and Larry Johnson, if you want to go back that far. Youth is the direction to go.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

yeah i just hope if it comes to that which i think it will because teams don't trade young bigmen for expiring contracts, maybe old injured over the hill ones like chris webber, I just hope Isiah lets them expire if it comes to that.

Chris Webber would be even worse than Grant Hill. Talk about a shadow of themself.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

This really isn't a bad idea. The only way it doesn't work is if we can get something better than Hill in a trade for TT, which is no guarantee. Hill obviously has injury risks, but so what? This is TT's expiring contract we're talking about. If Hill is injured for the 06/07 season, that amounts to the same roster situation as if we let TT walk. There are no cap implications since we'll be way over in 06/07 regardless.

exactly I don't know why people are so quick to shoot down the idea without thinking it through for a second. Unless you truly believe TT or Penny will get us Brand, Gasol, Randolph etc than you have to like this deal since we're supposably trying to win now with Marbury and Brown. Problem is some teams might be able to offer more but its worth a shot!

Actually, I might have to say this trade would be a no-brainer. It essentially amounts to trading Tim Thomas for a better player, and delaying the option to trade the max expiring contract by a year. Whatever's TT's expiring could fetch this season, Penny's could likely also fetch. Then even if Hill has his ankle amputated during 06/07, he can be used in a trade as an expiring contract or allowed to come off the books. What's not to like?

Orlando could conceivably be interested if they have their eyes on some free agents for next summer. Assuming they don't resign any of their contract year players from this season, they'd be at $47M next summer. By trading Hill for Thomas and letting TT expire they could drop down to $34M (actually, $34M plus Dooling's contract) and remake their roster by signing a group of impact FAs, or go after a max guy.

and we'll have $47mil in expiring contracts next year with Hill, H20 & Taylor and there should be better players available then. I just don't see anyone significant becoming available this year at the deadline but we still have Penny just incase.

We get to use Grant's services for 2yrs and maximize the effectiveness of Marbury in his prime with Brown coaching and who knows maybe he plays like the Grant Hill of old and we want to resign him. I mean he did average 18pts on 51% shooting his first time back in a long time.

You know I was just looking at hoopshype, its not a terrible idea but I know your basing that salary figure for end of 06/07 on the Knicks current roster. You have to think that they would add more salary before that happens but as of right now the Knicks would be on the books for 42 million. It's not a terrible idea, I'd more inclined to make this deal at the trade deadline if no big men were available to use with Timmy and Pennys contracts AND if Grant is still healthy. I've rethought this though and its not a bad idea, good investigating Guns.
