Fish ,this is my take on the length of james contract- 5th year is an expiring contract , which can be a positive so now we're down to 4 yrs. You would have been happy with 3 so really the difference is 1 yr. Considering the lack of height on this team and he really was the last semi- decent big guy available I don't think it was too bad. Also JJ is a young 29yrs(never played bb in high school and not alot of mins in nba) and knowing guys with height and bulk are always valuable later as backups(see elden campbell) , I'm ok with it.
Plus if it doesn't workout with JJ the Knicks can buyout his contract after year 2. That would cost less than buying out Shandon's cost.
