I don’t think anybody is trying to dismiss JJ’s numbers previous to the 2005 playoff series, those numbers are pretty much indefensible.

I haven’t seen him play much, but I did see the playoff series against the Kings, where, on the biggest stage of his career he was straight up dominant. Even tho his performance cooled against the Spurs, he was still a presence (ask Tony Parker), and a key reason why the Sonics gave the Spurs so much trouble.

Unlike Weatherspoon, Anderson, or another bad contract, JJ is not going to forget how to be 7 foot. Height doesn’t erode over time.

Its not unreasonable, or hopelessly optimistic, to conclude that he can build off of his playoff performance, especially considering the fact that he will be playing with an elite point guard --- not Aaron Carter Ridenhour. Or I could evoke the clichéd Ultimate Knicks prognostication: Mark Aquire will make him better!!

As long as he can block shots, catch and finish Marbury’s dimes, and overall stop teams from treating the paint like Motel 6, I’ll be happy. His contract is reasonable, and over time if he degrades, he can be a big man off the bench. We need size now, that’s non-negotiable. Better option than trading the farm for Kwame where his monthly temper tantrums will be met with reporters and fans questioning Zeke’s brain cells.

GREAT POST!

I think the best starting frontcourt chemistry wise is Frye(extremely impressed with his scoring ability and work in progress post skills) and Sweetney(he needs a chance and will do everything Frye can't) with Jerome playing a solid 20+mins off the bench. I'm looking forward to this season a lot more now with the 3 rookies doing so well in summerleague and the Q & JJ signings!

I was a Jerome James fan before the playoffs and before Ray made his comments.

The Guy can really play. I hope he can come to NY with some big time confidence and just use his ability. Cuz he has it all. He creates great space between him and his man when he posts up. He still has awesome potential even at his age.

What Aguirre needs to do is get him in the video room and try to get him to see why he gets called for all those fouls.
Kurt Thomas had the same problem but somehow changed that yet still remained effective on defense.

it doesn't take Ray Allen to tell a Knickerbocker fan about a player their favorite team has acquired.

Jerome James was a bum before he joined the Knicks.

Now, Mark Aguirre will make him better. Now, he will be a defensive against Shaq. yada yada yada.

I had Jerome James on my fantasy team last year. Trust me when i say the guy is a bum

And I'd take JJ over a Spoon any day of the week for 5 mil. How long have we complained about the 'undersized' nature of the nyk front? I'm willing to give the ben. of the doubt to a 7-foot cat who just started coming into his own, even if it was for the contract. Believe me, once JJ starts reading the Post, he'll feel the fire underneath him to be Shaq-insurance...

JJ being an allstar is just an overstatment for emphasis, but if you read Hardcore post for example, you'll see that apparenlty the correct way to analyze data is to pick one little part of it, and only use it to prove your agenda, meanwile ignoring the rest.

First of all, did you not see the "IMO" ( (meaning IN MY OPINION) in the first sentence of my post? Rather than make assumptions on knee-jerk reactions (how analytical is that? LOL), just ask that I clarify the point that you seemingly misinterpreted.

I was referring to the Ray Allen quote, specifically. I even summed it up at the end, saying "Hopefully, he'll continue to improve on that playoff performance here in NY this coming season.".

No, I did not want to go into his season stats, because my post, as well as this thread is ABOUT that statement. There are enough ppl on this board wallowing in pessimism and are all too willing to nitpick every step the Knicks make as they continue to imvprove the team. We're making progress with the roster (and hopefully coaching if we can get LB) moves made so far, and we're still in the midst of summer so there's time for more (1 or 2). That said, IMO- oh, I forgot- IN MY OPINION, ppl who do that aren't REAL fans. Those are the kind of punks who'll be rooting for the goddamn Nets in a year or two (or just turning into Knicks haters). I am 100% Knicks always and forever, like the song says.

I like the JJ pickup, and still hope he does well this coming season.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I'm with Hardcore, I wanna believe...and IT seems to believe. And his actions are speaking to that. I know we've been through a lot of negative management, so it's easy to be pessimistic for sure, but the law of averages guarantees that there's always a turnaround point, perhaps this is our point. I'm willing to give JJ at least till Christmas to show that the playoffs wasn't a fluke-

Both JJ and Frye are going to be fine playing for N.Y. They will both average pretty good numbers. Zeke just has to find ways to get rid of the dead contracts: TT, Penny, and one of the PFs...

TT and Malik to a team for a defensive Center and a pick

Penny and Sweet for a defensive SG/SF and a pick....

Under the teaching of Larry, Crawfford will finally learn how to play the game of basketball....He will be force to play the role of Rip

James may surprise a lot of folks regardless of the fact that he is close to 30. I read somewhere that he didn't play highschool basketball, his body is fresh and he is now truly ready to contribute. I do believe that this dude will do well with Agwire's coaching...

Ray Allen says he thinks James' new attitude is genuine. He has worked hard this season, kept off the weight and for the most part accepted his role.

We at least posed the question to James.

"If I was playing for the money, then it wouldn't be this outcome," James said. "Because it would be a selfishly motivated performance. And you would see me not making the right play. You would see me making the same mistakes I made in the past. Because I was selfishly motivated then.

"But it is something special when you actually believe the stuff you say out of your own mouth. This is me now. This team, any other team, this is what they are going to get. Because when you have gone so long looking through scratched-up glasses, and then you take the glasses off, you are like, 'Oh, OK, now I see.' There is no way in the world you are going to pick up those dirty glasses and put them back on and walk around thinking that you can see. You know you can't see."

Let's just hope he's not dillydallying.

Everyone talks about 30 like its the end of a career. This is when alot of players, especially big men peak! He hasn't been in the league that long and doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on his body. If what he is saying is true, and it sounds that way, we'll be fine.

What is up with Knick fans and the love for all of the PFs???? I don't get it. For years we haven't had a real Center, what is so wrong with paying a talented player like James who is a true center the MLE????

I am willing to take my chance with a guy like James who is a true Center over a PF at this time. I am so sick and tired of what the Knicks have had to offer the last few years, dude I am willing to take a chance on a talented player like James...As you all know, big man takes more time to grow than small cats..

the way things are going so far, I am very optimistic about how good and successful our Knicks might get next season. First it was the 8th pick; second, the trade for Q and the midget; 3rd, the amnisty that could finally rid us of Houston's contract; 4th, a true Center in James; and finally a possible chance at hiring one of the best teachers of the game (Larry Brown). There is no telling how far we might go
