What is gprs?
copied from Wikipedia. Link at the end.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a mobile data service available to users of GSM mobile phones. It is often described as "2.5G", that is, a technology between the second (2G) and third (3G) generations of mobile telephony.

In the UK (and most of Europe), you can get GPRS access anywhere. And if you have the right phone (I have a PalmOne Treo, which is a PDA and a phone in one), you can access the internet on it. I dont dl pictures on pages, just raw text, and page outline. The site takes about the same time to load on my phone as it would on 56k, even though my connection speed is lower. Sometimes then can be gliches in the text when im replying to things, but generally its great.

Maybe if you guys are lucky, the US might be able to catch us up technology-wise within the next oh, 5-10 years.

BTW, I sometimes cant connect to the site at all, even from my broadband, but when I do get on, it seems that everybody else has been getting on fine. Any ideas?

BTW, I access the forum on my cellphone via gprs. I was wondering is there going to be a big size difference between the pages as they are now and the new version, or will they be about the same?

WOW. Just Wow. I have tried to streamline the pages, so they should be smaller.

What is gprs?

You didnt use java did you? just html? Cuz if you did, Im screwed.

If we are lucky, we will be able to catch upto Japan soon where you can watch TV and read novels on your cell phone!!!

Bizzy: The sidekick is good stuff but the bandwidth they give is petty. I want the 3G to catch up already so I can access ultimateknicks from my A630. This website is the reason I get no work done, its an addiction!

we already have tv and ebooks on phones here. we have the n-gage phone where you can play ps2-type games and even wireless 2 player if you have 2 phones. we have phones here that run windows(pocket edition)! including aim, msn messenger, wmplayer, word etc. EDGE technology can bring your connection speed to over 56k. and im typing this from my car! who needs computers anymore? true, its getting a bit ridiculous, but its fun.

on the flip side, the british government wqnt to start using gps satnav tech to automatically limit a cars engine to whatever the speed limit is where you are. luckily it looks like they won't be allowed to because of privacy laws.
But the technology you guys have in the US is falling further and further behind

Dont want to make this a nerd thread but the US is not falling behind in technology. They were slow in reacting to the cell phone technology because of the incredibly reliable copper wire network AT&T built. They have recovered well and will catch up very soon.

Verizon on the east coast is going to start offering a broadband internet connection through the cell phones. Downstreams upto 3Mbps so the 56k is kinda poor IMO. They are planning on using the same bandwidth to do live video feeds like they do in Japan. They already do sports video highlights to the cell. I didnt know that you could watch TV shows on cell phones in Europe, thats neat.

Yeah, tha SDK2 is hot. It doesn't support java yet so tha games are weak, but it's a good device. Doesn't beat a PDA, but it's tha closest to one.

I think it'd be convenient if you could track your past posts. a lot of times since so many threads and replies get posted i don't remember where i posted something and sometimes questions don't get answered- i don't know how feasible that is but i think it'd be pretty cool.

searches, that's how you do it. That will be in the next rev. Searching effectively is not that heard, but to make it work smart takes as little bit of time. It will be in there eventually.

sorry, no avatars, they are distracting, IMHO, more than anything and are otherwise a nuisance.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.
