OK, so in the first half Frye picked up a foul every 2 minutes-- same as Diogu earlier today. Is Diogu a bust?

New update...Knicks win 86-74 and Frye did get a triple double. Finally a double digit rebound game...

looks like they kept him in in garbage time to rack up rebounds and make him look better

Lee keeps improving. Frye finished in double digits in points and boards, and, unfortunately, in PF's.

Nate was impressive as usual.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Frye sucks.
We will NEVER win with Marbury as our cameo guy.

What I dont get is that these are PRACTICE GAMES. Briggs, not one of us knows what they coaching staff is telling these guys to work on. Heck, maybe they aren't telling him to work on anything but the point is... WE DON'T KNOW! Wait until NBA season to make a decision on how a player looks, not summer league. The Knicks could very well telling him to be playing wreckless right now so he gets a feel for NBA competition, who knows, I don't and you don't and neither does anyone on this board. We know you want Channing to be a bust so just wait a little longer to make the claim on whether he is or not.

I love how he finally does play a good game and you find something to bitch about. Why can't you be happy with this statline, obviously the fouls are ridiculous but he'll work on that

Yeah: http://vegassummerleague.com/box_score.cfm?game=30

As an aside-- am I the only one who thinks that if it were, say, Bynum picking up an insane amount of fouls, a certain poster would not be distressed in the least? Can we at least watch Frye play a few NBA games before we start going gaga?

Yes, bias is very apparent.

If the summer league is an indicator, we had a good draft. Lee sounds like a skilled demon, Nate sounds like a big boost off the bench, and Frye sounds like he's passionate (my biggest concern). When they go to Minnesota we'll see a better indication of what we have. The good news is our three guys seem to be playing together well.

I'm not too concerned. First of all-- Jesus H. Christ, it's one summer league game! Second-- Ike Diogu had 10 PFs today in just 22 minutes. Is Ike a bust too? We don't have the minutes played stats, for all we know Channing may have played 15 or 16 of the 20 first half minutes. Chill.

I undertand that. I also undertsand from watching him he has a LONg way to go on the defensive side of the ball--there has been 0 change from college. this is not 1 SL game this is 4 years of AZ basketball and now into the pros where he has been a down right porous defender for guy who should be pretty good. Thats why he was projected as a 2nd rounder up until the end of the reg season. He needs a LOT of work.

Ike Diogu has already had some fine full games. Channing hasnt played well that I have seen at any point.

i don't think any of us want Frye to be a bust the problem is he is going to be. it shouldn't come as a surprise to people since the guys wasn't even dominant in college. A guy like Okafor was dominant. I can understand giving a 19/20yr old time to develope but I expect a guy taken 8 overall because he spent 4yrs in college to be ahead of the competition even if in the long run other players are better. I get what you're saying, wait til the sesson but he's struggling in key areas just like I thought he would.

I agree with that Briggs. You are right about Channings defense in college, it was suspect. I'm just going to give the guy the NBA season and then make my determination, this is too early to be calling someone a bust Briggs, even for you.

There is no such thing as garbage time in summer league play. EVERYONE... I mean EVERYONE wants to do something on every play. No one who wants a future in the NBA takes a break.

Reminds me of the nyurban league I'm in--- my team was down by 40+ points last week, and the other team was still playing hounding defense. What a massacre-- we lost by 53. (makes you think we were placed in the wrong division)

I think Frye will be ready to contribute this season--- it'll take time, but like I said in another post--- by the time the 2nd half comes along, he'll be putting up some numbers.

well he comleted his first double-double. During the offseason he just needs to learn about defensive positioning in the post. And who cares if he played in garbage time? When people post Green, Bynum, Ike, Blatche or whoever else's line for the night no one is interested in WHEN they got WHAT point and rebound. Everyone just says "Bynum scored....." or "Bynum didn't score....." lol. No one cares at what point they scored the points and grabbed the rebound. Point is, this is not an NBA game therefore these kids are playing until the bitter end. For crying out loud, they're trying to make an NBA team. So there is no such thing as "garbage time" in the summer league. They NEVER stop playing hard.

I think next game goes back to regular basketball rules,2 fouls in the first period-sit 3 fh sit etc..

if you can play carte blanche with no caring for the rules i.e fouls than stats are bogus. If a guy commits 14 fouls for a gem or 9 at the break--i would not long in any more stats. I would just like to see him from that point play under control. Any game where you get 14 fouls, well the plus side is skewed.

Theres a double-standard Thelonious. Instead of looking at the things Channing improved on in this game, its the fact that he fouled so much is the problem now. I don't get it. Watch out Channing, if you dont brush your teeth tomorrow someone is going to notice and call you out on it.

At the end of the day, double-double is music to my ears right now. After all there are not a lot of big men in summer league that have gotten a double-double. We just need to get his defensive positioning straight. I have total faith in Aguire's knowledge in that field. Frye just has to WANT it.

oh gawd. Look, I would have preferred Bynum or Green over Channing as well. I was really hoping for one of those two. But Frye is our pick and let's just give him time and a fair chance. As opposed to, say, having no identity or thoughts except to harp over how Channing is a bust and gleefully leaping at every little shred of data that might support that idea, if stretched enough. It's gonna get really old really fast during the season every time there's a new thread talking about how Channing did something wrong-- uh oh, foul trouble, he's a bust! uh oh, he got dunked on, he's a bust! God, save it, please. Try to appreciate the difference between cogency and hyperbole.
