it seems to me that's a work in progress. i'm just glad we now have a gm that acknowledges this and is taking steps to fix it. i don't think i'd be able to eat if either:
1. we still had kurt as our starting center.
2. if we still had a gm that was busyly adding over age over payed pf's due to the fact that there "good character" players.
i can deal w/it when it's obvious he's doing something to correct it.

Once Tim Thomas is traded Q will see more time at the 3. He'll probably start at 2 and be Ariza's backup at the 3....that's if we don't get a small forward in a trade for Tim Thomas which I'm assuming we won't. So Steph and Q will start with Craw and Nate backing them up and Q sometimes moving over to the 3 and depending on the matchup Craw can move to the 1 for short stints as well. I like the fact that we have so many guards. Whoever is playing best let them get minutes. Now of course we have to now work on our frontcourt.

It's already a given that Thomas will not last for an entire season even if he's not traded.

I didn't finish that last sentence accurately.

It's already a given that Tim Thomas will not last an entire season even if he's not traded DURING THE OFFSEASON.

here's a novel idea... let the best players play and minutes be allocated accordingly. If some of the younger guys take a backseat role for a time than thats life in the big leagues. We have a lot of players, but for once we have a real pipeline also.

This is why rebuilding really is a 2-3 year project. Just like it takes that much time to add players it takes that long to jettison the old ones as well

That's all well and good, but then you're basically paying certain players to not play. That's just plain stupid. I don't want players on this team who aren't contributing, and if I'm the only one that feels that way, then Jim Dolan can suck my dick...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

But the thread is about minutes. I don't care how much a players is getting paid, if he's not producing I say sit him. Simple as that. Otherwise this will turn into a thread about our massive payroll problems. And God knows we have plenty of those that end up going around on this board.

True, but if a player deserves 0 minutes, then why is he even on the roster? (unless it's Nate, Lee, or Ariza).

That's a whole different convo right there. Why they're there is debatable in every way. I'm sure everyone's opinion will be different as to why certain players should or should not be on the roster. But being that they are, it's all about splitting up the minutes now.

If a man is outworking the others in training camp and out performing them during the preseason and then this carries over into the regular season I say give that man playing time. He earned it. I see Marbury, Q, TT (however long he lasts in NY), Ariza, Sweetney, Crawford, Taylor, Frye, Nate whoever we sign in free agency getting the bulk of the minutes. It's still very difficult to say because I expect some of these guys (anywhere between one and 3) to be gone and other players will be on the roster. So it's still premature as to who's gonna play and for how many minutes. I just say give the minutes to whoever deserves them.

That's easier said than done. You can't expect someone to contribute the most they can without an adequate number of minutes. There's only so many minutes to go around. Inevitably, someone's gonna get the short end of the stick.

sure its stupid, and thats a good way to describe how the franchise was run for the last 6 years. Your talking about a perfect scenario where we can just poof wipe the slate clean and start over. Its just not an option. If you have to play Tim Thomas just so you can get some value for him at the deadline at the expense of Crawford, Ariza or Lee's minutes than you do, because thats what will REALLY help you.

People around here talk about building a champion caliber team. That means patience above all else and getting maximum value for every piece that isnt a permanent fixture.
