im beginning to suspect that these agents are using these websites and ESPN to attempt to drive up contract values. whether its ESPN INsider, ESPN News, Real GM, NBADRADRT Drafte EXPRESS, Hoop hype--they are using all public avenues to create misinformation. I guess from now on a deal is a deal when it is a deal.

that's the way it's always been. but yeah, it's been ridiculous for the last few weeks.

This realGM report is whack. They're talking about Washington "matching and retaining" Hughes. Hughes is unrestricted and he's LEAVING Washington.

Its done. Hughes didn't even give Washington a chance to match Clevelandd's offer so Ernie must have really lowballed him on the first offer.

Hughes got between $65-70 million, he basically got a very similar offer to the one that the Cavs made to Michael Redd.

as someone who doesn't particularly want kwame brown on our team, i look at this deal as knocking washington out of the playoff running this season. it probably puts cleveland in there, but with lebron and co. it was just a matter of time anyway, i don't think it makes cleveland unbeatable anyway.

I think this means Crawford's days are numbered. Think about it, Zeke hasn't mentioned Crawford once while defending the **** out of Marbury. And Crawford is far easier to trade- like for instance to the Wizards for Kwame.

To answer someone else's question - Larry Hughes was an unrestricted free agent. Somehow it got reported that he was restricted and even some NBA GMs thought Larry was restricted. But Chad Ford cleared all that up in his blog on Tuesday. Three days later, Larry Hughes is in Cleveland. Ernie Grunfeld must LOVE Chad right now.

From the ESPN report about the Larry signing:

The news comes as major blow to the Wizards, who were confident they could re-sign Hughes. The Wizards eventually offered up to six years, $70 million.

The Wizards now have to start over from scratch. The team now has a big hole at the two to fill and must also deal with the likely departure of Kwame Brown. The Wizards can get about $9 million below the cap if they don't re-sign Brown. However, the market for two guards is getting thin.

The last major two guard on the market is Joe Johnson. However, Johnson is a restricted free agent and most teams believe that the Suns will match any offer. There's also talk from multiple league sources that Johnson is in serious negotiations with the Atlanta Hawks about signing a max offer sheet.

That leaves Bobby Simmons, Cuttino Mobley and Latrell Sprewell as the top two guards left on the board. The Wizards could also, at this point, try to work out a sign-and-trade with Brown that brings them back a top-flight shooting guard.

I don't like it, but I'm starting to feel like it's the only way for Washington and New York to go. Washington desperately needs a two guard, they don't use Kwame but want value for him. New York desperately wants another 7 footer, they value Craw but it's looking like NAte will demand PT. I can't decide what I want less - a starting lineup of Marbury, Crawford and Q - or a starting lineup of Marbury, Q and Kwame.

I personally wish Zeke would just sign Stephen Hunter and throw the team into practices, but I think he wants a bigger name than Hunter. And I really don't see Stromile taking 5.1 million in New York - why not take it in Houston where there's no income tax? I know Zeke wants Jerome James, but I don't like him.

Your right, he's not. To me, he's more of a 8mm per but I think Cleveland is desperate since they lost out on Redd and Allen so that immediately drove Hughes stock right up. I agree with the rest of you about Crawford too, he could become an extremely hot commoditiy in the coming weeks with teams scurrying for athletic SG's.

Well, it was Redd's contract that really set the market value for the SG's. Hughes probably thought to himself, I scored about around the same number of points as Redd this last season and I played better defense so I think I deserve around the same amount. Can't really argue with that logic either because even though he misses games, statistically he is at the same level as Redd. So as a result, the Cavs had to make Hughes basically the same offer they made to Redd if they wanted to get him and they did.

I never saw Gilbert Arenas as a 12 MM a year player either. I think Hughes is certainly comparable to him and plays better D. I really don't want to get rid of Crawford for Kwame.

The Cavs NEED to make the playoffs with Bron or risk losing him.

It's the beauty of free agency. teams need to look active to appease the fans, so they overpay for flashy names.

I dont know about this move from the Wizards. Now they sit in the worst position. their cap # is to high since the offered Kwame the QO to go out and spend anything but the equvilant of two mLE's--are two mLE's better than Hughes? In a best case scenario, you could get Mike Finley for an 4 year MLE with an option for 5, trade Kwame Brown and a pick to Atlanta for Harrington and Diaw? I dont know, but now they are in position where they are relying on other teams to make a deal OR they simply tell their paying fans they accept taking a step back.

I mean EVEN with Kwame and Blake IF they signed Hughes to a deal that averaged 11 mm per and added in an extra year with an option on it to ensure that it came out to 5 years 60mm at a minimum, they still have plenty of tax threshold. You cant give Hughes away for nothing!`

I don't want to hear people dogging the knicks about overpaying players, I mean 70 mil for Hughes and 96 mil for Redd? I mean Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!! talk about overpaying..
