Briggs, earlier this week you were advocating Sweets and Malik for Kwame and Blatche. What made you change your mind? I agree that Sweetney is one of our best and only back to the basket guys, MoT and TT being the others - neither of whom I like as much as Sweets. But still, I don't see him as being a starter in this league. Do you?
Frye to me is a pure tweener. You have to have players who sit in the low block. After viewing Frye's play and seeing no change from college, I wouldnt advise moving Sweetney.

Frye is bigger than Camby psychically but he is also softer. Camby wasn't soft. Bigsmooth said it best Frye will give you 14 & 6 while mcgrady, artest, amare, pierce, o'neal & Kobe go on to become stars

To me I like the fact that he is a Rasheed Wallace type of player. I think he will be fine in the post as well. The problem with how this team has played so far is that everyone has been doing their own thing. Nate is still playing a 2 guard, Lee still playing as a 4 in the blocks. I didn't see them set up for much of any half court action, everything seemed to be off of turnovers, or Nate just taking a shot for himself.
I don't like to play bad rookies , I like to play good rookies - Mike D'Antoni

i think frye's impact and contributions for this team will rely HEAVILY on how sweets plays this season. if he's in shape, and makes a big time leap, then frye will be on the floor ALOT more. sweets should pick up some of the rebounding slack from frye (as well as Q). it will be interesting to see how it all develops.
i almost wish we signed a guy like rebraca just to let sweets and frye develop with major minutes this season. i'm willing to take some major lumps this year, even if it means winning only 30 games if it builds sweets and frye for later.

We have frye and we may need to keep Sweetney for now and see how it works out because Frye is on the perimeter to much. That leaves us with only Taylor and Sweetney in the box. If one guy goes down, OUCH.
I think if we don't make ONE more trade then this season will be "OUCH" anyways. Aquirre himself said Frye needs some more work, half a season, one year, two years? who knows.
If the right deal comes along I'll trade Sweetney in a second.

the Knicks need an inside force. Neither, Mike Sweetney nor Channing Frye are inside force's. How can you say, don't trade Sweetney, Briggs when you know he is going to regress this year.

Supposedly Sweetney worked out with Curtis Martin for a period of time this summer. I expect Sweetney to come into camp in the best shape of his life. They did recently exercise his option, so that is a good sign. If he is not in top notch shape, then I would advocate looking in other directions. If he is a solid 6-8 260[probably needed to lose 20, perhaps he was 280 at top weight]and looks good and moving great, then I say give him the PT.
