If the Knicks trade for Garnett, it would remind me of the Shaq/Miami Heat trade. Sure it looks good now, but in the long run it wont be. Miami had Odom, Butler and Wade, now they have Wade and a Shaq that isnt as dominant as he was before. I say we just rebuild. Hopefully Frye will be our Garnett.

KG has NO HISTORY OF ANY INJURIES!!!

And Ariza, Craw, Sweetney and Frye are 4 gusy that MIGHT be good players some day.

You are gettin a real superstar, no punk like Marbury or Pearce, a bonoife 6 11 bigman who is arguably the best or top 2 at his position, a sure hall of famer, all in all, this is no different then tradin for Shaq!

we are never getting a KG. We don't have anything resembling the right pieces to do this.

By mid season or the trade deadline, Garnett will be a KNicks...Penny/TT/Sweetney and 2 first round draft picks will get the deal done....

This trade talk for Garnett comes up every year. Has everyone forgotten what Kevin McHale said when asked about trade rumors with the Knicks..."There's no one on their roster that we have any interest in" ...end of story.

this is bs. if thomas had an opportunity to get kg by just trading marbury he would have done it by now. kg is one of the top three players you would trade a team for. plus we would be in an ideal position to get rid of marbury since we have crawford who can run point as well as kg. matter of fact, getting kg would solve most of our problems. this report has to be false.

This would work out with KG, Wally and Hudson coming to NY in terms of contracts going. That would leave Minny with pretty much just the 5 year deal for Hassell.
And it would be done all without losing the youth we have.

I like the timetable as well as your proposed deal. I'd do that in a heartbeat!

That was the past, when we had no young players and no draft picks. Our cointracts weren't in their expiration date. While we have the pieces to make the deal, I don't want it to get done...

KG and Marbury hate each other. The wolves hate Marbury. I don't see him coming here. Indiana or LA make a lot of sense. LA makes the most sense.

since when do KG and Marbury hate each other ?

We actually have enough to get this deal done. We have 30 million in expiring contracts, and we have some young and cheap (or relatively cheap) talent.

Witht he new CBA we should be able to provide the best overall deal. No one has 30 million in expiring contracts, and no one would be able to accept KG and Wally and Troy's salary on their roster in return. We have the best shot. I say a package of:

Penny, Timmy (expiring contracts)
Sweetney, Crawford, Ariza (young, cheap and relatively cheap talent)

for
KG
Wally
Troy Hudson

or something along those lines.

That's news to me too. They still call each other and play pick up games. Marbury didn't like Minnesotta. The T-Wolves, KG still want him. He didn't want to live there.

If they are shopping Garnett why would we give up all of our assets for him? I wouldnt ship Frye, Sweets, Penny, TT, Ariza, and Craw plus #1's or whatever that wacky trade proposal was. You sent them TT and Penny for cap reasons, you send the #1's for future proofing, and you sent either Sweets or Craw - you have to keep Frye because he is part of our future and we dont have any big men.

I would be fine with something like TT, Penny, Craw, 2 #1s for KG and Szerbs. That is a fair trade - I would even try to hold on to 1 of the draft picks because I think that is more then enough to get it done.

This would be insane... and for once, I feel like it could finally happen.

I know we'd get rocked for K.G.... McHale would ask for everything we have of value. Our Expiring contract's in T.Thomas and Penny.. plus Sweetney, Ariza, Crawford and our #1's

But IF this is more than just some net rumor, and we somehow managed to get K.G. and keep Marbury and Frye, even while taking on Minnesota's crazy contracts in the process... IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE WORTH IT. THEN NOBODY WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO DOUBT ISIAH THOMAS AGAIN.

Frye
Garnett
Szczerbiak
Richardson

From the source (which may or may not be credible)
New York: Garnett would love to play with Marbury again in the bright lights of NY.
I think Steph and KG realize they were young, immature kids when they were playing together. Both are veterans who have accomplished a lot individually (KG more obviously) who want to be on a winning team. I think they'd love the opportunity to play together. Marbury (at this stage in his career in contrast to when they played together as kids in Minn) would be the best player KG has ever played with and KG (at this stage in his career) would be the best player Marbury has ever played with. I think it would be a wonderful situation for both of them and for NY, but I'm not sure the Knicks have enough to pull off this kind of deal, esp. with all 3 of their 1st rd draft picks signed.

Yea I saw this on realgm before, not sure if it is true or not. However, it isn't ridiculous and it is logical for the most part. One thing for sure is the Wolves won't trade for Marbury unless they are trying to team him up with Garnett on their team. So you won't see Marbury being traded in a deal for Garnett if the Wolves look to rebuild. If this is true though, I think the best offers we can put forth (if the Wolves really are looking to rebuild) are...

JayNYC also posted this idea

New York trades: Tim Thomas
Penny Hardaway
Jamal Crawford
Mike Sweetney
Trevor Ariza
both of our 2006 first round picks

Minnesota trades: Kevin Garnett
Wally Szczerbiak
Fred Hoiberg
Trenton Hassell (would have to agree to this trade)

or if they don't want Crawford's contract we could offer

New York Trades: Mike Sweetney
Tim Thomas
Penny Hardaway
Trevor Ariza
both 06 first rounders

Minnesota Trades: Kevin Garnett
Wally Szczerbiak
Fred Hoiberg

Keep in mind, I didn't include the rookies because we can't trade them until December. I think the Crawford deal would be more appealing to them because they get better talent which gives them a slightly better shot at attracting free agents than the 2nd deal does. Crawford doesn't have the greatest contract, but I think they might take it in a deal like this. From our standpoint, I think you definitely do either of these trades. Trades like this are the reason why you want a nice pipeline of youth. I know some of you guys really want to keep Sweets and Ariza, I do too, but I would do this trade in a heartbeat. Lets say we do the Crawford trade, we end up with a lineup of...

C- Channing Frye/?
PF- Kevin Garnett/Malik Rose/Maurice Taylor/David Lee
SF- Wally Szczerbiak/Jerome Williams
SG- Quentin Richardson/Trenton Hassell
PG- Stephon Marbury/Nate Robinson

Then you use the MLE wisely to get a backup Center and you have a contender. I'm not sure if Minny deals with us unless we include Frye in there (I'm starting to really like Frye but he is gone too in the right deal in my mind). However, we can put together a decent offer without the rooks if they are really looking to rebuild.
