Swift has a low basketball IQ but I would still love to have him here. He would be a very nice fit for the up-tempo game that we would be trying to play. As others have said, having him start at PF and Frye starting at C would be an ideal scenario.
"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

As it was brought up in the other thread, and many times before that, Swift may not be a C, but he plays his game big. I would love to have him in the paint despite lacking the few inches others seem to want. Having Frye and Swift swatting shots away next season would be something I'd love to see.
Frye can start at C and Swift at PF, and we would not be undersized by any means. Plus Swift can see backup minutes at C. I'm not sure if we can get both Brown and Swift, but that's obviously what IT is shooting for.

That is probably my dream plan 1B, 1A being Dalembert and Frye in the front court. I think Swift at PF and Frye at Center would be an awesome defensive duo (and with guards we have we NEED that shotblocking there), Though it would be bad when the best post player is possibly your 6-6 shooting guard.
I think Frye will be a very nice post player. He's sound in all aspect of the game, but comes across as a guy who will be very productive in the post, with his ability to play with his back to the basket plus put the ball on the floor a little. PLus Swift has the ability to develop some in the post, but that won't be his game. Our best bet is to trade TT for Swift then offer one of our PFs, probably Sweetney, and get a quality back up center. We will be in great shape then.

There is no way Memphis is motivated to take Tim Thomas. If we can't get Swift for the Mid Level then we would have to give them something of actual value to do a S&T. We would have to trade them Marbury and take back JWilliams or trade them Crawford straight up. Then, those are net Jerry West type players.
I doubt he'll cost that much but if it's anywhere near there, either sign him for the mid level or forget it.

that's the Low Level Exception, it's a little over a mil and can only be used every other year. MLE is fair game every year.

If Memphis is really trying to cut some salaries as rumored, then it makes a lot of sense. They not only get a player that may be serviceable while his contract last, they also get big money off their cap after the year is over...

If Memphis is really going bankrupt, they should and probably will just let Stromile walk. Meaning he'll probably go to the highest bidder...so getting him for the MLE is gonna be improbable.

Unless he wants to play with us, and that's possible

If we tried a sign and trade with Memphis, expect to take back JWill.

How much money can we put in a sign and trade?

From Larry Coon's salary cap FAQ

81. Can cash be included as part of a trade package?
Players can be traded for cash, and cash can be included in trade packages. The amount of cash is limited to $3 million. The cash is NOT considered when matching salaries under the assigned player exception.

The problem is the only expiring deals we have are max deals (Tim Thomas, Penny). This is where that terrible Mo Taylor deal comes into play again. Moochie and Vin Baker's expring contracts added up to something more manageable like 7-8 mil which would have worked well in a trade for someone with a mid-level salary.

Yeah, unfortunately we have to realize that Tim and Penny are only going to bring back a player who is overpaid from an organization that's desperate.

Here's a scenario that works under the CBA, unfortunately...

Tim Thomas, Trevor Ariza for Lamar Odom, Medvedenko
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I hate to say it, but I'd do that. Trevor is my man, but I'd do that in a heartbeat. LA probably laughs at us though.

Why are we saying TT instead of Penny? Penny makes more and his contract expires the same year as TT's? Today i'm just getting the feeling that the euphoria of draft day and Q we're just making up crazy trades...if they would take TT for money reason only, why would they not take Penny who we definitely have no use for and makes more (more $$ off the cap)

Penny, Rose, MoT are the ones we should be targeting to trade...We are keeping sweetney, we are keeping TT, we are keeping Crawford and we are DEFINITELY keeping Starbury.

So, unless you think that TT can provide another team something in terms of stats, substitute Penny (who btw, makes the same as Marbs)
all kool aid all the time.
