why is no one talking about curry? he is the lowpost force we desperately need. i dont want to hear about his heart condition- the kid is young and he will only get better.

Z is old, white and frail, why waste money on him. kwame is a bust and will always be a bust. jerome james is a scrub and stromile swift while being atheletic doesnt really give us a force in the paint.

I think the issue is that curry is going to cleveland or staying put and why even waste time considering it?

I see opportunities, for example, I'm betting Big Z goes to the lakers and big chief triangle and kobe. they'd be back in it over night.

Until I read this, I didn't realize exactly how much cap space Cleveland had. 28mm?? They could resign Z and still have enough to throw the max at JJ or Redd, and STILL have 6-8 mill under the cap afterwards remaining to fill out the roster.

I don't think Z for the MLE is realistic anymore. Since Ferry took over and said keeping him is a priority, I think he stays put.

I think it's gonna be Kwame, but I hope they use the MLE on Stro.

can u all please stop the crazy fantasies about Stro....we already have Sweet, JB, JYD, TT, and Mo T....Why in the world must we invest money on another PF....iF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT, EVEN FRYE IS A PF.....Say no to stro, spend the MLE on guys that are natural CENTERS....DEKE shoult be heavily considered in N.Y. Zeke needs to go after him again....no one else will be offering him more than the MLE...

Deke? Why?
How many more years you think he's going to give us at this point? I loved his shot blocking while he was year, but now we have the opportunity to go young and build for the future. Why not find a younger C, or atleast spend the minutes on our younger front court players. It's obvious we need a C, but Dikembe is not the answer.
Besides, you think he'd even want to come back to NY? Isiah hasn't exactly given the best going away parties.

I would do Deke because we need someone to teach Frye how to become a much better shot blocker, and furthermore, With Deke as Center, it would be much easier for guys like Butler to get playing time...Deke can no longer play 30 minutes, but he can easily share the position with a scorer like JB. We can't afford to have young talents like JB and not be able to utilize or better yet try to find out how valuable he is...Deke will not be too expensive...which would help us as the season progresses, because you never know what may happen as far as injuries to key players...

Here's Ford's writeup of the Knicks cap situation and free agency agenda:

Players they might lose: Jermaine Jackson, Bruno Sundov
Players they might pursue: Kwame Brown (R), Antoine Walker, Stromile Swift, Jerome James, Dan Gadzuric (R)

Current cap position: $114.3 million ($64.8 million over the cap)

Analysis: The hottest rumor Thursday night was that the Knicks were targeting Brown and offering to do a sign-and-trade with Washington that would send back Michael Sweetney to the Wizards. It's clear the Knicks still need to get bigger and they also need to thin out the undersized corps of power forwards that they have.

Going after Brown makes a lot of sense for the Knicks. They need to swing for the fences and at the age of 23, Brown still has plenty of untapped potential.

The problem is that playing in New York might not be the best fit for Brown. He probably needs a smaller market, with less, not more attention. He also needs to play in an offense that gives him the ball once in a while. He played with shot-happy guards in Washington and didn't enjoy it. The Knicks may offer the best money, but if Kwame wants to resurrect his career, he should probably do it somewhere else.

Walker is another attractive option for the Knicks.

If the Knicks can't land Brown, Swift would be another good option. Put him on the floor with Channing Frye and the Knicks would be flying up and down the court again. If both guys opt for more money or different environments, James and Gadzuric are serviceable big men who could help clog up the middle.

Tim Thomas doesn't have a future in New York and will likely be traded to a team that wants his expiring contract.

Trading Sweets for Brown would be utterly insane.

I don't know. Sweetney will never be a starter in this league. Trading him now would probably be trading him at the height of his value/potential. He's also a Washington DC local, so the Wizards might be one team that has a double interest in the guy.

Zeke will look at Kwame and see a lot of Jermaine Oneal. They are built with the same frame, long and lanky and athletic. Kwame has a natural fluidity to his movements that a guy like Frye can work all he wants, but will never get.

I think it's a decent gamble. Sure, it's a gamble, but what it Sweetney's ceiling? He's smaller than Brand and Randolph, I don't think he can be as dominant as those two. He's built more like a young Clarence Weatherspoon. I'd trade Sweetney now while teams are still thinking "poor man's Randolph" rather than Spoon 2. I think Sweetney's ceiling on a playoff team is 20mpg off the bench. He can fill a Corliss Williamson type role for some team, but Kwame is all potential. His ceiling is Jermaine Oneal 2. I think moreso than drafting Bynum or Green, this is the type of gamble that makes sense for the Knicks.
