most we can give him is 175% of what he made this year ($9.2mm -> $16mm). $16mm is a decision. He's really good and obviously we like him alot. It's another choice for the FO, but they have a lot of options.

Yeah he is getting the $16m.

I don't know, would a team offer him something in the $20M starting range? That's a lot.

doubt it, I mean he's still a guy thats never played 30mpg and can't space the floor. Teams aren't spending big money at C.

and all that being said I'd be shocked if Ihart left this situation to try to squeeze 2-3m per year.

Knicks need to preserve their special chemistry

i used to advocate for Donovan, and probably still do but not as strongly. Guys are playing for each other, playing tough D, hitting clutch shots. i can't think of a single player i would want if it would disrupt that

both Brunson and Randle are underpaid and in that regard set an example of some sacrifice. Guys have a chance to achieve something special. They'll all be financially set. Issue is whether they sacrifice some for the experience of a lifetime

OKC... they have the space. You give him 4 years $80mm (what we gave Josh Hart). Put IHart at center, move Chet to PF, Jalen at the 3, Dort at 2 SGA at the 1, Giddey can come off the bench. That's a sick line up on both ends

if OKC wants to pay him 20m and Ihart wants to leave u tip your hat. Just dont see either of those things happening.

Long term a guy like CHET is better suited as a stretch 5 and rim protector, not sure he's a guy you want guarding guys on the perimeter and taking his length away from the basket. Same thing I said about KP for years and eventually despite not wanting to, KP plays C.

I can't find Oklahoma on a map outside of its shape. I think it's more west side of country than east and more north than south but that's it.

I listen to a lot of Knicks podcasts, they held a pregame show for our game with OKC with OKC beat writers and asked them about the idea of them throwing the bag at iHart. They said they believe no chance. They want Chet at the 5 long term.

Also, pretty crazy point they made was that OKC simply does not sign free agents. It's not part of their team building strategy. The biggest FA contract they have ever given out was Patrick Patterson in 2017 for 5.5M per year....lol

They are more likely to preserve the cap space to obtain picks and simply resign their own stars into their tight budget. They know they will need to spend to keep this core together and aren't going to ruin it by recklessly handing out ancillary contracts before guys get their big paydays.

Jonas Valanciunas is a FA. He would more likely be the target FA if OKC wanted to spend the money. But odds are higher OKC spends assets and cap on Lauri.

yea I mean I could see them signing a stopgap C for a year or two, but no way can I see OKC signing a young C to a long term deal and going with CHET at the PF long term.

I think its a no brainer to max him out - it will be his choice to accept that or try and get more. I think for the marginal couple million he will stay here. He really seems to love it here and love his teammates.

He comments a while back were something like his hard work has earned him an upgrade. He’s going to take the $$ and he should at this point in his career.

Two things give me hope with iHart.1)During his interview on the Roommates podcast Josh and iHart kinda insinuated that a deal might have already been worked out.2) He was willing to leave money on the table to stay with the Clippers. I think fit is a very important factor with him and the chemistry he has here is palpable. Of course, it only takes one team to throw things out of whack. But I don't see OKC throwing big money at what would amount to being a situational center.

I don't think iHart getting roasted by Embiid on national stage has really helped his case for getting a ridiculous contract. 16M is more than fair and he will get it from us.

I don't think iHart is getting roasted by Embiid at all.

Embiid is shooting 7.5 3s per game (he usually only takes 3.5) and he's averaging 14.8(!) FT attempts per game when he even only gets 11.6. How does a player get more whistles when they play further away from the basket?

Meanwhile Jalen is averaging 28 drives per game and gets 9.5 FT attempts? That means <5 of those 28 drives result in "sufficient" contact? Give me a break.

The corruption in NBA officiating is scary.

Anyway what Im saying is Embiid is scoring at his seasons average with no impact defensively, and his efficiency is way down. iHart draws him in the first Q where he is the least labored.

That said the guy had a massive 3rd Q in Game 3 and a massive 1st Q game 1 I believe and I think we've contained him outside of that. Shooting well under 40% this series outside of game 3.

I love iHart but Embiid is having his way with him and to a degree so has Maxey in terms of paint scoring. Our starting lineup has been getting killed on a nightly basis mainly because those guys get whatever they want to start the 1st and 3rd Q's. Embiid is stepping into rhythm Js whenever he wants and getting to the FT whenever he wants when he's paired against iHart. iHart really has not been able to make things tough at all on Embiid this series. Our best successes have come in the form of Mitch in G1 and OG in G4.

I'm not dogging iHart either, Embiid is an MVP caliber player. Sometimes the best defensive weapons are the unconventional ones. Meaning Embiid can toy with most big Cs. Put someone on him that will throw him for a loop instead ala the "We Believe" Warriors against MVP Dirk many years ago.
