That was one of the toughest losses I've seen from this team and that is obviously saying a lot.
Our defense was much better in the 2nd half but we couldn't get stops when we needed them the most in Double OT. Those switches really kill us because David Lee and Al Harrington cannot guard guys like Raymond Felton and DJ Augustin and they shouldn't be asked to. Our perimeter D is still awful and that won't really improve until we get some new players...
What surprised me the most was D'Antoni's coaching. Typically I have no gripes with him at all because I think he is a very good coach but last night, I think he really lost a feel for the game. I know Gallo is a very good shooter but why the hell would you bring him in at the end of regulation to take a 3 pointer? First of all, he was sitting on the bench with those 5 fouls so he was obviously stiff. Second of all, why are we taking a 3 pointer when we only need one point to win? We were doing a good job of getting to the basket so I think a Duhon-Lee pick and roll would have been a better call than having a shooter come off the bench and take a 25 foot contested three....
Gallo was the guy that got us back into that game (along with Jeffries who luckily hit those 3s) and D'Antoni just left him on the bench in OT and for most of Double OT. Our offense was terrible in those overtime periods and Gallo would have helped a ton.
