interesting OP-ED from the times

"the Obama campaign is wrong to suggest that a McCain-Palin administration would just be a continuation of Bush-Cheney. If the way John McCain and Sarah Palin are campaigning is any indication, it would be much, much worse."

and briggs, this is why i, for one, was so quick to jump on you after saying the election was "done cooked over" or whatever your phrasing was after palin was picked. yes, the gallup poll #'s spiked and i'm sure more white women are voting for palin now. the fact remains, there's still 2 months left on the campaign trail, and this woman has blatantly lied to the american public since she's appeared in the spotlight. the more the campaign drags on, the more she has to appear on tv and answer questions, the stupider/more absurd her selection is going to look.

I am glad he didn't cave in and take Hillary. Hopefully he does win, the right way. McCain did lotsa good for his campaign with this VP pick , but thats very superficial. I was surprised with Barack's comment on "pig in lipstick" it really was dumb. I mean there are plenty of real issues he could have brought up to discredit her and McCain and he probably still will do that. Next 2 months should be fun

Today's gallop poll is important. I would think we would want to see some weakness for the first time in awhile by McCain via that interview with Palin. I don't think it came off to well and perhaps some reality will kick in.

gotta give the Palin interview a few days to settle in. I think today is too short.

It will be interesting to say the least if/when she finds herself in any of these three situations: unscripted interview, press conference, or a debate. Her implicating that war with Russia would necessary if Russia invades a NATO country was very chilling. It would truly be astounding and absolutely devastating if these two nimwits could manage to start an actual war with Russia that eight American Presidents during the Cold War were able to avoid.

If Russia invades a Nato country we are bound to protect that country.
Neither President Obama or Mccain would sit back and let Russia do what they wanted to Ukraine or Georgia either. BELIEVE me if Russia did something stupid--we WOULD attack them with Obama as President.

My personal believe is the number 1 asset Obama would bring is a person who could calm the waters around the world. McCain is bellicose--forget any VP why cant people see this? It's better to try and talk and get along with people in terms of national security than sticking your nose at them.

Gotta both laugh and feel very frightened with this quote from the NY Times editorial staff:
As we watched Sarah Palin on TV the last couple of days, we kept wondering what on earth John McCain was thinking.

Gov. Palin’s Worldview

As we watched Sarah Palin on TV the last couple of days, we kept wondering what on earth John McCain was thinking.

If he seriously thought this first-term governor — with less than two years in office — was qualified to be president, if necessary, at such a dangerous time, it raises profound questions about his judgment. If the choice was, as we suspect, a tactical move, then it was shockingly irresponsible.

It was bad enough that Ms. Palin’s performance in the first televised interviews she has done since she joined the Republican ticket was so visibly scripted and lacking in awareness.

What made it so much worse is the strategy for which the Republicans have made Ms. Palin the frontwoman: win the White House not on ideas, but by denigrating experience, judgment and qualifications.

The idea that Americans want leaders who have none of those things — who are so blindly certain of what Ms. Palin calls “the mission” that they won’t even pause for reflection — shows a contempt for voters and raises frightening questions about how Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin plan to run this country.

One of the many bizarre moments in the questioning by ABC News’s Charles Gibson was when Ms. Palin, the governor of Alaska, excused her lack of international experience by sneering that Americans don’t want “somebody’s big fat résumé maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment where, yes, they’ve had opportunities to meet heads of state.”

We know we were all supposed to think of Joe Biden. But it sure sounded like a good description of Mr. McCain. Those decades of experience earned the Arizona senator the admiration of people in both parties. They are why he was our preferred candidate in the Republican primaries.

The interviews made clear why Americans should worry about Ms. Palin’s thin résumé and lack of experience. Consider her befuddlement when Mr. Gibson referred to President Bush’s “doctrine” and her remark about having insight into Russia because she can see it from her state.

But that is not what troubled us most about her remarks — and, remember, if they were scripted, that just means that they reflect Mr. McCain’s views all the more closely. Rather, it was the sense that thoughtfulness, knowledge and experience are handicaps for a president in a world populated by Al Qaeda terrorists, a rising China, epidemics of AIDS, poverty and fratricidal war in the developing world and deep economic distress at home.

Ms. Palin talked repeatedly about never blinking. When Mr. McCain asked her to run for vice president? “You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission,” she said, that “you can’t blink.”

Fighting terrorism? “We must do whatever it takes, and we must not blink, Charlie, in making those tough decisions of where we go and even who we target.”

Her answers about why she had told her church that President Bush’s failed policy in Iraq was “God’s plan” did nothing to dispel our concerns about her confusion between faith and policy. Her claim that she was quoting a completely unrelated comment by Lincoln was absurd.

This nation has suffered through eight years of an ill-prepared and unblinkingly obstinate president. One who didn’t pause to think before he started a disastrous war of choice in Iraq. One who blithely looked the other way as the Taliban and Al Qaeda regrouped in Afghanistan. One who obstinately cut taxes and undercut all efforts at regulation, unleashing today’s profound economic crisis.

In a dangerous world, Americans need a president who knows that real strength requires serious thought and preparation.

As I watched the Palin interview I had strong suspicions that abc was editing much of the interview out. Many of the questions and answers had abrupt beginnings and ends. My suspicions where proved true, and they didn't just edit stuff out, manipulated it so she appeared less knowledgeable than she is and took questions and answers out of context…

it's disgusting to see how liberally slanted the media is and how they want to brain wash people to vote the way they want them to.

i have no clue who mark levin is...and i have no clue if this is the real interview. but i know that the interview on abc was spliced and edited. so now we have no clue what the exact interview was, what questions she was responding to, and the tone in her answers. doubts are now raised. partially her fault for doing an interview in this manner instead of a live q&a and mostly abc's fault for not airing the unedited interview (borderline irresponsible if you ask me).

but this just highlights a bigger issue in that it's very difficult to believe anything you read and hear in the media. one point of view can be altered in any way to force one's point of view onto another. that's why when it comes down to voting day, americans vote for who will help them (individually) the most or who they relate to despite plans, policies, etc. the debates coming up should clear some stuff up...

Let me get this straight because some guy who you don't even know says the interview was extremely slanted and misrepresented her, you now have bought his take on it full stock and barrel? You honestly think if this interview painted her in such a bad light that the McCain campaign wouldn't be raising holy hell about it? Since apparently anytime you criticize this women it's sexism. So they are either really that stupid or this Mark Levin guy is full of shyt.

For the record Charles Gibson or ABC for that matter is not what the Left would consider one of theirs that's pretty ridiculous notion. All these major news networks fell down on the job Pre Iraq invasion, all of them did very little until recently to question the Bush Administrations actions these past 8 years, so please before people start trying to paint the major media outlets as Liberal read an actual Liberal publication.

Getting back to Sarah Palin; to rebut all of this she could do more interviews. Go on Bill O'Reilly, or some other Fox News talking head, as matter of fact hit every single major network. If there is "false" information out there on her then combat that, explain to the American public what you are really about. But the longer she withholds from doing interviews the more questions begin to float around her. She came into this with no one really having an idea of who she was and apparently she wants it to remain that way. So the media should absolutely rake her over the coals about being sequester like this.

Also every interview is sliced and edited so why this is news I don't know.

Sarah Palin is old news. She has already stated she took the job without knowing what's involved and that much is obvious. The GOP has no legs in this election on staright issues so they need her "sex appeal" such as it is to win. What's amazing is that a whole bunch of people keep calling her really "SMART" -- this is person who wants to attack Russia and continue praying that killing innocent Iraqis and laundering taxpayer dollers to Haliburton is "God's Work". Now that's smart!!
