My freakin knee is sore. How I forgot my brace I dunno.

Yo evil I sent you a email bro.

I got the basketball bug. I'm kinda anxious to play some ball again. I will be out there somewhere trying to get my timing back. I forget how much I love the game man.

We gotta do this again sooner than later.

I feel you, bro. I'll play next week at the same park. There I said it. I love bball too.

evil and i get to the courts around 4:15pm. they are nice courts hidden away under the west side highway. unfortunately, we picked the wrong time of day b/c when the sun was setting, there was nothing to block it so the courts started getting bleached with sunlight...and heat. next time, we can do it earlier in the day and don't need to worry about rain or sun at all.

it was good to meet kam77, panos, igotnext, and actionjackson.

and great to see the others again: evil, marv, bigc, tms, allanfan, enyspree, and bitty

here are my impressions:

1. i'm an old bastard - at the knicks practice facility games, i was able to play 4 games straight no problem. yesterday? 2 games and i was winded. we start the 3rd game and 15 mins into it, the score was 2-2 so i said "i gots to get the F outta here' and subbed out. went back in for game 4, and subbed out 15 mins later. i have totally lost my wind.

2. the mvp award was shared by 2 players: evil (who was money from the perimeter) and panos (aka ginobili). evil's jumper was on all day and he was just torching people from the perimeter. panos played everygame, all out hustle (matching tms' intensity). dude reminded me of sarunas marciolonis (from golden state back in the day) but for the young bucks, we'll call him ginobili.

3. big props goes to marv. for a 83 year old, the guy is in really good shape and was able to hang out on the court. but everytime he touched the ball, all i kept hearing was the globe trotters music with old black and white footage of guys with short shorts and high white socks.

4. allanfan is a monster. he must have 50 lbs on me, and why is it i always have to match up with him. trying to keep him out of the paint is f'n painful man. that killed my entire energy level (plus i'm an old bastard). and on offense, i played the post also, you know how tough it is with that bohemeth bodying you up. i think he takes steroids.

5. actionjackson is WAY too pretty to be ballin'. dude had the good hair...probably put some s-curl up in that piece back in the day too like my man nique.

6. picture time comes and bigc refuses to take part. my man is in witness protection.

7. watching enyspree try to keep his dreads from blinding everybody was f'n hilarious. damn man, that's what you get for trying to be polo sport pretty. you need to just wack it off, burn your cheeks and try to rock the seal look.

8. btw, panos is the energizer bunny. i think he may have been the only guy out there with 6pack abs...the rest of us were sporting keggers.

i was dissapointed with my performance. i have to give myself a D+. i had so many open looks in the post but kept missing. but next time...well next time i'll probably miss them too. my personal highlight was after i called "glass" and hit a jumper on marv, i followed it up with another post move only to be hacked and butchered by bitty. yeah, i called foul...i don't care whether it was a girl or not...rules are rules.

but it was alot of fun. and we will schedule something up for august.

btw, it was fun bunch of games...except for one moment of tension when taking a ball out. now you get a rebound, and need to clear the ball back to the free throw line...is it enough to just dribble back and take one step at the free throw line and then can come back and take the shot, or do you have to put both feet behind the line?

igotnext - you hung tough also and made some real nice cuts to the basket.

kam had a smooth stroke from outside. he also steps away from every jumper like he's larry bird in the 3 point contest holding up his finger.

during my "sub" outs, bigc played so i wasn't able to play with him. but considering he probably was wearing an ankle bracelet and can't leave the tri-state area, i'm staying at least 500 yards away from that guy.

Sounds like fun. I wish I could have joined you guys, I hope there'll be another chance.

Of course I gots no skills and can't deal with full court, but I'd gladly sub for 3 mins to lay a Mardy Collins on whoever is running up the score.

I had a great time playing ball in the Bat Cave. You guys can really ball. I think everyone had a good run and the subbing in and out was a great idea. I have really not played ball in 2 years and my body is in pain right now. Maybe this is the beginning of me playing basketball on the court again every weekend. Hopefully we will play again next week or in August.

Also you guys are very knowledge and know how to play the game the way it is supposed to be played.

lmao!

It was cool man.

There was this guy that came over and was watching a little. Not sure if he wanted to play or not. One of the Uk guys mentioned to him we were all together and he was in shock. We look like the united nations anyway. He was like, "I was wondering why there was so many knick merchandice pn the court" something to that effect anyway.

A friend of mine had came too but chickened out after he saw the Uk mafia.

It must really big people out to see is all together. Its all love man. We were all brought together by one common thing and that's the knicks. Its a beautiful thing. I might shed a tear its so touching!

I am absolutely more exhausted then I've been in a long time. Maybe it was the booze from last night, but besides maybe sitting down for about 10 minutes, I had the honor of playing for 3 good hours straight, which was awesome. Evil, you played awesome today. Nice going.

BigC, Evil mentioned that Marv was a savvy as heck player, but you seemed to be just as savvy. Not an easy guy to go against. PS: Thanks for the teaching advise and for the Metro Fare.

Thanks. Your game is solid. You have the ability to do it all. Post and shoot. I thought you were just an Allan Houston fan from reading the boards, but it looks like you also shoot like him. Your passing I will say is on point. I had a great time playing with you guys.

BigC -- thank you for not defending me. I'd hate to see you in ballin' shape.

Don't worry next time I won't apply the Balkman or Artest defense.

My "Haterade" re-cap

Everyone else sucked except for Me & Bitty (& Big C cause i'm afraid of him)

Just joking but seriously, not to diss to anyone but Bitty was far and away the best player on the court. Athleticism & fundamentals...I really felt like she was taking it easy on us.

Thanks for having me & I hope we do it again soon.

No need to be afraid of me. lollllllllllll

Thank's for helping out with the scoring you made things easier during the last game. (This 1 game lasted 5 hours)

DJ -- Plays a very polished post game. Uses many subtle moves and great bodywork to free himself for shots. Knows what he's doing. Plays like Tim Duncan. Didn't have too favorable a matchup most of the time being guarded by taller, bigger players.
IGotNext -- A little bit like Nate Robinson. Boundless energy with the ability to quarterback the offense. Chemistry player too.
Evil -- I authored a little tension with the foul line thing. Sorry about that. Maybe if you weren't scoring so easily already i wouldn't have said anything. How about take everything back 3-pt line next time?
TMS -- You don't want to let your guard down around TMS. No loose ball is taken for granted.
Allanfan -- Money. Played like Kurt Thomas. Layed picks left and right and would have been drafted #1 had he not been doing the selecting.
Marv -- "Where's Papabear?!" lol. Marv can play. He was in better condition than I was.
Panos -- I'm so glad you were on my team in the first few games. He defended and rebounded and played unselfish on offense. The times he decided to take it to the hole, he would score and look like Ginobili or Wade in the process.
Eny -- Charles Barkley comes to mind. The kind of player who can score in the paint by rushing into it or by grabbing a put back and tossing it home.
ActionJackson -- Multi-faceted. Can pass and post up, the offense ran through him even though he didnt' take it out most of the time.
Bitty -- I had to guard her in some of the late games and she scored on me a few times. Beat me for some rebounds. Then we were on the same team and got to connect for a couple assists.
BigC -- When BigC checked into the gathering at the start of game three is about when i had to check out. HE was posting and toasting with his height advantage. I Jeff Van Gundied it to the sidelines barely able to speak "I want to spend more time with my family" I sat for about 20 minutes and then from that point refused to play unless I was on BigC's team.

Maybe I overrate your performance because your team always wins. I mean, last time we played your team always won and then this time too. Winning is everything. The games were better this time though. We mixed it up so much that no one went winless like me and Allanfan last time.

I might've had some good shooting games but I don't feel as good about it because I didn't win every game I played. Though shooting well soothes the pain of losing.

Panos was nasty. Hard to contain. I'm glad he was there to clean up all my bricks towards the end when my legs started getting tired and I my jumpshot went away.

I didn't play a lot with BigC, but I played enough to know that he'd be sick if he was in game shape -- not to say he wasn't nasty yesterday.

I'm happy I never had to defend Allanfan. He'd score at will on me. Thankfully he was on my side setting a mean pick on Eny while I took open shots.

I have a feeling that if I had a 30 minute basketball coaching session with Bitty I'd be a better player. She knows stuff.

TMS is another guy, like Panos, that is such a bonus to have on your team. He's got a nose for the ball and a real competitive spirit.

I defended Kam a lot. So I can say for sure that he knows what's up. Smart player. Good decision maker. Don't leave him open.

ActionJackson can post and toast, swish and dish. Crafty vet. Fully decked in Starbury to boot.

IGotNext knows the game. And we all know that 90% of the game is half-mental. Always manages to find the open space.

Let's not forget how HUGE it was for Marv to sneak out of the nursing home for this get-together.

I didn't get to team up enough with a few people. So hopefully next time we mix it up some more and I'll get to play with ActionJax, BigC, IGotNext and Kam. Everyone that I played with was awesome. I can be wild at times so the fact that people were patient with me is a blessing.

Hey I hope the "take back" thing didn't come as anything other than playful banter. I'm always down to compromise. It's funny how many "little" rules differences people can have. I'd be lying if I said I ever played the both feet back rule, so if anything -- that might have spurred my incredulous response...

Take everything back or only take backs if the shot hits the backboard?

Take back to the free throw line or to the three point line?

Take back with both feet behind the line or does one foot count?

Do you play line or poles as baseline out of bounds?

As a compromise, next time we'll play the three point line for take outs and make it one foot back. Aside from that sillyness -- we managed to survive the day without any real arguments. It's always more fun when everyone is cool and respectful.

Hey, I'll say one thing. A few people remarked about BBall IQ.
It was def a pleasure to play with people that made the extra pass, and played hard on both sides of the ball. Run with you cats anytime.

Really my pleasure to meet you all and hope its not too long till the next time!

The play I remember was my team was on offense. I was standing out near the three-pt line being the selfish bastard i am and waiting for the ball to come to me. Someone else from my team shot and missed. Evil had been guarding me out where i was and he was around the free throw line. The rebound came to him and he turned from guarding me, got the rebound and scored.

I think thats what happened.

My only gripe, and i use that word lightly, was that i never had a chance to play defense once the ball had changed possession. It was like a fast break in a half-court game. So thats why I suggested that an effort be made to actually take the ball back to some point where the defense is established. I guess my mentality is similar to the offsides rule in soccer if that makes any sense.

So yes. I would accept what you said. That the ball goes out to the three pt line, as long as you have one foot behind the line it's all good.

Yeah, I hear you. That's a good description -- like a fast break in a half court game.

I understand your concerns and I hope you know I meant no disrespect with my little tirade. I was just being ridiculous.
