Anyone know the deal with this dude?
Source: Henry brothers pick Kansas
By Andy Katz
ESPN.com

Highly rated basketball recruit Xavier Henry and his brother C.J. have decided to play at Kansas, a source said Wednesday.

C.J. Henry told Memphis coach Josh Pastner that he and his brother chose the Jayhawks, a source close to the Memphis program said. The Oklahoman reported that the Oklahoma City products would announce their decisions at a Thursday afternoon news conference.

Xavier Henry, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard ranked third overall by ESPN's Scouts Inc., is expected to be a third scoring option alongside center Cole Aldrich and guard Sherron Collins. The two helped Kansas reach the Sweet 16 in March one year after the Jayhawks won the NCAA title and are returning for the 2009-10 season.

Xavier Henry signed a national letter of intent with Memphis last fall but changed his mind after coach John Calipari left the Tigers to become the coach at Kentucky. Xavier Henry cannot sign another letter of intent, so technically he is not bound to Kansas. He also was considering the Kentucky Wildcats.

C.J. Henry, expected to be a backup point guard at Kansas, will not be on scholarship because his education is being paid for by the New York Yankees. He signed with the Yankees out of high school, walked on at Memphis but sat out the 2008-09 season with an injury.

His father, Carl Henry, told the Oklahoman he expects that his son will be eligible to play immediately for the Jayhawks.

Kansas is projected by many as the preseason No. 1 for 2009-10.

we mine as well platoon Melky vs. left handed pitching... his righty swing seems more balanced & he tends to try & jack the ball to the short porch way too much when he's hitting from the left side & ends up striking out... Melky brings much more pop in his bat than Gardner & his arm is a weapon in the OF... Gardner will still get plenty of AB's facing righty pitching... his bat is not good enough to be a fulltime player at this point in his career.

At this rate Melky will overtake Gardner in CF by June.

He should overtake Gardner starting April 23rd. He's simply playing much better. I'd make the CF spot his to lose. It was Gardner's to lose and after 15 games he's put up a .583 OPS. Give Melky about 10 games and see what he does.

I don't disagree...but they'll probably ease into at rather than just hand Melky the job right now. I still think Gardner can hit a bit...but without much power he may just end up being a 4th OF. That was the issue with Melky- the guy couldn't slug over .400 and his bat didn't justify playing everyday. Now it looks like his power is starting to come around. The bottom line is that he's still 24 years old. He made it to the majors at a very young age. Power tends to develop a bit later.

Gardner had a terrific ST & out hit Melky too... i'd platoon these kids til the Allstar break & see who wins the position for the stretch run... at the very worst we'll be able to feature both of them for a potential trade for an upgrade at the position down the road... if Gardner gets on base he brings a whole new element to the table that Melky does not... both kids do some things well & have some weaknesses... we should let them both get some burn in the first few months of the season.

I know Melky won that game yesterday with the HR, but what Gardner brings, won us the game the other day when he got the single, stole 2 and then scored for the go-ahead run. Thats what they were looking for when they decided to give him the CF job.
