IMO the Knicks already proved they could win without Melo. I'm glad that he's finally pitching in on D, but really the team has a better record without him and even stat wise they play better without him. My main reason for wanting Melo was his crunchtime shot making, not his middle of the game effectiveness. He's always been a very inefficient scorer. What you hope is that he does the little things like he's doing now so the team isn't hurt by his lack of D and inefficient scoring. That's been the good thing so far is that he's really fighting hard on D now. I hope it continues.

What have the Knicks won?

This is about our STARS finally joining the action on D. Do we think Woody wasn't telling the guys what to do on D when he was an Assistant? POINT BLANK MELO STOPPED SULKING WITH MDA GONE!!!

Yea CAUSE MDA's SYSTEM SUCKED REALLY BAD!!! So you stop sulking.. Go Follow MDA's next team.

You do realize that were still using MOST of the MDA system and the defense has been the same since day one. Woody and MDA use the same damn defense and Woody has been here since day one. COME ON MAN THINK!!!

Your nutz if you think we would have won a championship with MDA system. We have 3 allstars (former and present) on our team that command respect from other teams. Next year we will have 4 if Lin continues his emprssive play. So what if WOOD is still using MDA's play's. SO WHAT!! As long as we win, who cares? Oh you do.. I haven't seen this amount of defense in the Knicks in years. Defense win championships. Not run and gun offenses..

Again...not understanding

No one is arguing that this isn't great to see the Knicks winning. Just that if STAT and Melo had been giving this much attention to playing D there would've been no problem. Melo let his ego get in the way of helping his team. If you don't see this then no one can help you. Just go and look at the breakdowns of how the team played when Melo is on the floor verses off. It's a STARK difference. The dude is now playing hard on both ends. He's not a scoring machine right now but he's not hurting us on D. He has been shooting poorly all year, but he was also not defending as hard as he should and he had a bad attitude that effected the whole team. Now with MDA gone the team can just focus on winning. I'm glad and every Knick fan is glad. Just don't try and lay it all on MDA as the source of the problem, cuz when we were winning without Melo the team was playing great D even tho we weren't nearly as deep as now.

GO KNICKS! GO WOODY!

Great job by the Knicks. Great coaching in particular. Great subbing, use of timeouts, and holding players accountable. I really liked how Lin choose when to attack the rim, and I'm loving that pull up of his in the paint. They're expecting him to plow into the paint and he's using that against them. He's used it at times but his shot wasn't as crisp as it looked tonite, for the most part. Liked how Melo found other ways to contribute. I think Bibby made a case for limited minutes. lets not let up against the Raps!

I think this time the Knicks will be alright. I don't get the sense that they will backslide again. Woody and the players seem to be on the same page and I think they like what's going on now. This reminds me a bit of how the team looked during Linsanity in terms of the players keeping the same intensity on D.

Bibby called Woodson a father figure in one of the articles that I read today. I think Woodson is very comfortable playing Bibby and I think he will get some minutes. Love the Mobb Deep second unit.

That is what the MDA apologists don't get, namely, that Woody holds players ACCOUNTABLE which MDA never did and never will. This is why we're winning as well as creating the offense from defensive stops instead of run and gun.

This kind of staying power is what we're going to need against top seeds. The great thing is that we did it with our stars and Novak not having a particularly good game offensively and the bench not only keeping us in the game but pulling us ahead.

One thing I noticed is that under Woody Amare is hedging the screen much better. I am glad we are not seing the type of Hedging Amare did in the Spurs game anymore.

yep. this was big.

then again, they took punches against dallas and lakers and came back to win.

BUT, this is the first time i can remember the knicks taking a punch on the road and punching back and winning. doing that on the road is the hardest thing in this league.

knicks looked like a playoff team tonight. and one that could give everyone but chicago and miami fits.

STAT did it one time in this game. STAT actually started playing better before MDA quit. He had that really bad game against the Spurs but then played better D the next game.

We have to at least acknowledge that Woodson has been here the entire season. It's not like he hasn't been trying to get these guys to play hard all year. We got healthy and got Tyson and Jared back just as Woody took over and in addition we know that STAT and Melo stopped doggin it. Our 2 best players were the only ones not playing hard on D. It's not true that the whole team somehow found D once MDA quit. The role players have always been playing D. That's why the team was top 5 on D before Melo came back.
