NYKBocker wrote:Another display of the beauty of Lin's basketball game last night. I loved how he controlled and managed the tempo of the game. I loved how he made sure everybody had touches and he shared the wealth. BUT...what really got me was his understanding that you reward hustle plays.

In one play, on a missed shot, everybody was going back on defense except for Amare. Amare was still fighting for the ball and ended up getting the ball against 2-3 Hawks. He secured the ball and passed it out to Lin who was coming back. The rest of the team was coming back and filled the lanes and he could have given the ball to a streaking teammate on the right side but he waited for the defense to commit and then gave a nice easy to catch pass to Amare for an open shot. He rewarded a great hustle play. This is why guys like JJSkinny, Novak, Walker, Fields love playing with him. Dude just gets it.

yeah man, saw that. The Orchestrator.

that wasnt the only time he did that.. he does it all the time. Twice last night I stopped the game and did a quick rewind for the Mrs to see what I was talking about. One was a Chandler dunk, he contests a shot, pull down a rebound then Lin sets him up beautifully for a dunk off a P&R.

The guy really is MDA and Nash's love child (credit to Nalod)

What he does is incredibly simple, yet one of the most coveted skills in the NBA. Lin gets into the paint and maintains his dribble and his courtvision. From there he either scores on a variety of slicky moves, OR if you close on him he makes a crafty pass to one of our nasty finishers.

I know he's got a ways to go, but he's like a power pitcher with a nasty curveball. Sitting dead red? Watch the legs buckle when I throw the bender. Looking for a bender? Have fun dealing with some HEAR under your hands.

But the BESTEST part? Has anyone noticed that when Lin gets hit in the next 90 seconds you can bank on one of the other players getting hit. Ive seen JJ do it. Chandler MUGGED Zaza blatently after Zaza hit Lin. These guys protect their little general. Its making this fish all warm and fuzzy!

Absolutely. One thing that really irritates me though is that it is obvious that other teams are getting really physical with Lin and yet he is not getting the calls. It seems like they have a no blood no foul approach to Lin. Yet, if LeDouche drive to the hoop and gets breath on its a foul.

I expected this. Some time next year, if Lin continues to establish himself, he'll get the same calls. No doubt in my mind.

The BESTEST part of all?

fishmike wrote:Has anyone noticed that when Lin gets hit in the next 90 seconds you can bank on one of the other players getting hit. Ive seen JJ do it. Chandler MUGGED Zaza blatently after Zaza hit Lin. These guys protect their little general. Its making this fish all warm and fuzzy!

fish.mike - there is nothing more heart warming than the photographs of Lin sitting between his big brothers on the sidelines. Sandwiched between Carmelo on one side - Stoudemire on the other, the feeling (take THAT Marburyand1Cross) is one of casual comfort. Big brothers can be exceptionally protective if they feel little brother needs some assistance. Not that little brother NEEDS help. But it is nice to know that big brother is there - just in case bullies get personal.

But the BEST BESTEST part of ALL?

Jeremy Lin makes the expensive, and much-discussed, Carmelo Anthony trade look good.

NYKbocker - you are indeed Jedi.

Let the court record reflect that at 6:05 of the second quarter, Jeremy Lin hit Carmelo Anthony with a perfect bounce pass from the free throw line for an emphatic driving dunk in perfect rhythm.

It was the precise moment people starting thinking, "hey, this Lin + Anthony thing may not suck that bad."

Historic.

If you think The Answer Man is jumping ship you crazy.

Lin gets some rest after the break and comes back stronger.

Miami threw everything they had at him. First tour of the league and Miami is very, very good.

I agree. Fans just suck!!

Was a learning experience for him and he will come out for the better.

Maybe his rookie card is now only worth 12,000?

Somewhere in Orlando, The Brainy Backcourt is playing Monopoly on their iPads.

Miami threw everything they had at Lin. In his eighth NBA start, Jeremy Lin was defended like Magic Johnson and Julius Erving combined.

To his credit, he did not back down. He took some ferocious charges and did not retreat.

Losing to the Heat is the best thing that could happen. With a win, the hype would have been unbearable.

As it stands, there is work to be done and the roster is reminded that winning never comes easy.

The Knicks season starts after the break.

Now Lin at least has some idea of what that is going to take if and when the Knicks get (to the playoffs).

The Brainy Backcourt gets to hang out in Orlando a few days. If they can jump line, Universal has some cool attractions.

The Answer Man has enough love for all Knicks, although Toney Douglas was testing my patience.

Though he plays heady basketball he is turning into the worst outside shooting - starting shooting guard that I've seen in many years.

I get the sneaking feeling Lin and Blake are going to be teammates one day - just a hunch...

What's up with Lin's knee?

Lucky 17

Lin came into this season having hit one three-pointer—one!—in his NBA career. He wasn’t a good long-distance shooter, even against Ivy League competition. And yet fully four of his five signature highlight moments have been threes: his tongue-wag shot against Utah, his nails in the coffins of Los Angeles and Dallas, and of course his brain-melting isolation game-winner in Toronto. - Will Leitch

There is an element of serendipity/ good fortune, for the stars to align perfectly for Jeremy Lin to be in the right place at the right time. There is also alternate theory which plays into why no franchise stuck with Lin - despite his potential and the need for roster spots.

The Knicks caught Lin just as his initial pro learning curve was reaching a first peak. After being cut three times, Jeremy Lin made the decision to play on his terms and without fear of failure. The fact that Lin is a student of the game and has leveraged state-of-the-art digital training is good news for Knicks fans. With his passion to fulfill a lifelong dream, Lin will only improve with experience.

Bring on Cleveland.

Nice story on the Lin family and how they helped shaped Jeremy's life.

“Growing up, some of my mom’s friends would tell her that she was wasting everyone’s time by letting me play so much basketball,” he said. “And so she would get criticized, but she let me play because she saw that basketball made me happy.”

Nice catch Gustav

This paragraph stood out:

Even during a rare splurge, Jeremy’s modesty showed through. Nathan Lui, a high school friend of Jeremy’s, recalled going to an Audi dealership with Jeremy and Shirley shortly after Jeremy had signed with his hometown Golden State Warriors. After years of riding around in a Taurus, he was ready for an upgrade.

While out on a test drive, Lui said, the salesman asked Jeremy if he was a basketball player. Jeremy said, “Yes.” The salesman pressed on. “Did you play in high school? College?” he said, and Lui remembered smiling from the back seat.

“Jeremy had just been signed by an N.B.A. team that played like 10 minutes away from there,” he said. “Anyone else would have been shouting it out, telling everyone.”

But that was not how Shirley and Gie-Ming had raised their son.

“Well,” Jeremy told the salesman, “I used to play in college.”

Fast Forward to Getting Better

"Against a great team like this, you may not get something off your first pick-and- roll, or off your first look, and so it has to be putting them in rotation, making them work for 24 seconds and then having the ball come back. I think we have the weapons to do that, and I need to be able to deliver the ball where it needs to be when it needs to be there. That's just on me."

We're lucky to have such a class act at PG who can actually play the position as well.

Lin personally requested that he played limited minutes for the Rising Star challenge. He knows that he was added late along with Norris Cole and he knows he was added because of all the Linsanity hype and he was smart to take a back seat and stayed quiet and allow the others to just put on a show.

Anyone here collect Basketball cards? I used to back in 1993 but stopped after it got ridiculous. I noticed that NBA Hoops is coming back. Looks like old times to me. I might start buying again just for the excitement of landing a Jeremy Lin card.

Doesn't Lin's signature look like it'll be easy to forge? haha.
