i have nothing against him... but ive seen him play in college, summer league, training camp and the nba... and at no point has he struck me as an nba player. he might be able to get there... but i just don't see it.

He has size (not weight though) and a great shot/release. Never underestimate a guy that has one above average skill in the NBA. Might take some time to develop, but if he gets the chance I think he sticks around the league for some time. He's not very good now, but I'm willing to be patient with the last guy off the bench

I agree, he is pretty slick, has good vision can handle the ball with either hand well ,so what that tells me is that he can get anywhere he wants most of the time, and we know he can shoot. should be interesting to see him develop.

Derek brown is an athelte!

Derek Brown impressed the hell out of me tonight. I'm happy Donnie went with a guy that is an elite athlete instead of whatever garbage retreads/has-beens PF/C people around here wanted. Leon Powe, give me a break!

Brown definitely was welcomed surprise, and probably the most unexpected, in a night full of them! awesome win

If Brown can hit the outside shot with some regularity, I'm looking for him to be our version of James Posey at some point in his career- a good 1/1 defender and opportunistic outside shooter. He's a better athlete, I think, and can also run the floor.

Sheldon Williams also surprised me a bit with his versatility- perhaps more to him than I thought. If Turiaf opts out next year, I think he can play that role, and he has more of an offensive game.

A lot of guys auditioning for spots on the roster, next year, even as we battle for playoff position- unfortunately Balkman is the only one with guaranteed money.

Good call on the Posey comparison. Brown is every bit as athletic as Posey was coming into the league, now Brown needs to develop the stand-still three ala Posey.

Garbage time at after the half. I love it.

This also shows good Deron Williams really is.

Badabing! Let's just call it a lucky guess. MDA seems more willing lately to give his bench a shot and it was about time. The bench is playing really well and we really do need our vets to rest.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

hahaha - true but I did not know it would be a blowout - it was just an epiphany. I also predicted somewhere here that Al Jeferson would score 30 but that was after he hit 2 shots - his first 2 - with matador D. I am going to Vegas.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

All the Knicks players are starting to get into the spirit of defending. They see how much easier it makes the game when you play hard and get up on teams. I think they see how good they can be and it's spurring them on to keep playing defense. Melo has been into it and you really don't notice him sticking out as a hole in the D. He's doing his job. These are all good signs.

Brown was a phenomenal 3pt shooter his last year in college. He shot 43% on 2.6 attempts per game. He probably will improve in the NBA once he gets more strength.

Wow...he has 3pt range too? Gotta keep Donnie around....Him and his staff keep finding these cheap GEMs....We need them once DWill or CPaul comes next season.....

Personally, I rather have DHoward and SNash next season......Nash (with a Bibby type pay cut) to finish his career with a few championships before he leaves.

Dolan needs to sort his life out and pull it together. This team is good because of Donnie. I know the Melo trade has Cokehead Jimmy's fingerprints all over it, but the assets in place to execute the trade were there because of Donnie. And you can't tell me that our illustrious owner knew to spend daddy's money on Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter, or Shelden Williams--though he probably insisted on reacquiring Balkman

I was so happy to be at the game last night. I have seen very few blowouts in the Knicks favor in person. And the absolutely sick display put on by Stat, Melo and TD will be a lasting memory for me.

Other than that it was fun to watch Brown- that guy is an explosive athlete. I don't know if he can play a role at this point, but he has some tools. I think Rautins was in a tough spot and he became a bit of a sideshow out there. Can't glean much from him. I thought Sheldon Williams, though he's slow and somewhat awkward, did a great job of getting in a good position near the basket and using his size to draw a lot of fouls. A guy who's big like him and can rebound and use his size to get some cheap baskets/draw fouls will have some use. He's still awkward, and still seems like a turnover waiting to happen, but he may be a useful piece. I can't believe he managed 6 assists. Gotta tip your cap.

Jared Jefferies was great defensively, and great on hustle, but how long can you play 4 on 5- even with this offense? He can't miss at point blank range when the games are more hotly contested. That will get us into trouble. Every time I see him out there I wonder how he has made it this far while still being this incompetent offensively. He might be the worst offensive player I have ever seen in the NBA. At this point I think he's the Chuck Knoblauch/Mackey Sasser of offense. Its all mental- he's got something in his head where he literally can't make a basket.
