miami's defense was great and exposed us. they were great on the pick on roll and knew exactly when to bring help against amar'e. they got away with more than a few fouls though.

i think this game exposed amar'e. he's not a great passer and if you double team him as soon as he starts his dribble he'll turn it over or throw up a bad shot. it was like watching amar'e in the first few games when we were iso'ing him on the elbow. did not help that he was not hitting that shot though.

gallo should've seen the ball a little more and i think the pick n roll with him would work well as well as iso'ing him on the elbow. he's a willing and able passer. we kept going to amar'e but it was obvious he was just not hitting any shots and they were playing good defense.

That is true to a certain extent. It's the one thing that we don't have and in a game like this it shows itself. I hate to think like that, but it does help to bail you out when you have a great one on one talent. Still if Felton/Amar'e are on their games this game is much more competitive. We basically rely totally on those two to carry most of the action. We can't survive a bad game from both of them. It put too much pressure on the supporting cast and they couldn't get it done.

completely agree... that's when you need another guy that can take over the offensive load... Gallo is very hot & cold & Wilson is inconsistent... almost seems like if 1 of them is going off, the other one completely disappears... a guy like Melo can go shot for shot w/Lebron when he went off on that hot streak shooting the rock.

There was a reason they weren't on their game. Miami played very good defense. They completely took Amare out with doubles and sometime triple teams. At one point in the game everything was geared towards Amare. Double on Amare and three guys surrounding Amare. If Amre kicks the ball out everyone goes to the man standing around the perimeter. Stagnant offense no half court set played right into Miami's hand.

the thing is though he hasn't been passing. or if he does it's a wild pass. on more than a few occasions they double and he's thrown a wild pass that the shooter can't put a fast enough shot up before he rotates. he either does that or puts up a difficult shot. against worse defenses they'd rotate late or just play it straight up and give him a lot of room.

i don't think another scorer(melo) would have done anything. we run two plays, top of the key pick n roll with amar'e and iso amar'e on the elbow. when you stop that, there's a lot of standing around and good defenses beat a lot of standing around.

I think Melo certainly could've helped us on offense tonight. You can't triple team STAT with Melo on the floor.
Miami is a great team guys. What impressed me was their D. They had a plan and really beat a weaker team. D'Antoni has to learn when to call a time out and adjust. He just doesn't do that. I get that's his style...but frankly it hurts them.

Knicks are a good team. We're just not on that level yet.

they did a great job taking him out of his game... they took all the spacing away from him & crowded the lane... he had nowhere to go w/the ball & he started trying to force up bad contested shots... they also did a great job backing him farther away from the basket out of his comfort zone & he ended up taking longer distance midrange J's & clanking them.

i disagree w/u completely... i think another scorer keeps this team in the game & makes that kind of defensive strategy on Amare impossible for the Heat to capitalize on... they had zero fear of Gallo, Wilson or Ray going off during the 2nd half, their entire strategy was focused on stopping Amare, & it worked to perfection... u add a scorer like Melo to the equation & u better believe they have fear that Melo goes off if they try to double down on Amare downlow.

I'm not sure about that. Melo is a midrange and in scorer. What Miami does defensively is pack the paint and since they have such great athletic speed they can still get out to try and cover you if you aren't out at the 3pt line. Melo isn't good out to that distance, so he'd be facing more help defenders. If we had taken and made more 3's that would force them out of that defense. We actually needed Felton, Gallo and Chan to be on their 3pt game tonight in order to force the Heat to come out of the paint. I think Mike was trying to do that which is why he went with the spread offense. We just didn't have it. Felton wasn't feeling it from deep. We also didn't get any favors from the Refs on our drives which we got fouled a lot, but still IMO we needed our 3pt game more than another penetrator like Melo.

Actually lebron was stuck to gallo.. they paid a lot of attention to him.. that is why Mike bought gallo over to amare's side on offense.. the rest of the guys were not hitting much if at all.. I love fields, but maybe he would give us more depth off the bench, a guy like mayo would have given us another shooter/ scorer.. it is not all about melo, we could sure up other spots and get better.... all of this going to to toe in scoring is ridiculous.. do you guys think melo scores 55 tonight? because if you take gallo out, that is what we would have needed.. and if the heat defense is as good as you guys claim, do you think that is reasonable for him to score?

they fear him whether we have melo or not and melo would not help with spacing when amar'e has the ball. it's not like amar'e would be able to pass the ball to him anyway. this was one of those instances where he should've actively been trying to find the open man when having the ball because his shot was off.

Melo is great at getting to the line while taking his man off the dribble... he's also great at getting off shots in traffic & can kill you with his pull up J before the defense even has a chance to set up, much in the same way Lebron was torching us in the 2nd half when he caught fire... if the Heat packed the paint to double on Amare u'd be seeing Melo either taking the uncontested J or dribble penetrating to draw contact & getting to the line, u can bet on it.

Felton not getting going obviously didn't help matters tonight either... against a team like the Heat you need to be clicking on all cylinders to beat them, & we weren't tonight... u can easily see that this team gets exposed when Amare isn't in beast mode... when he's going off it makes the game so much easier for everyone else around him... that's the kind of thing Melo can also bring to the table... relying on the 3 pt shot to win you ballgames is a feast or famine type of strategy... we need a more consistent means of getting points if we're to expect to beat the top teams in the NBA.

Tonight was disappointing but we were the weaker team. The bench needs improvement. Williams has done nothing the last several games, Douglas who might be injured has been very disappointing.I think Walsh will make somes move by the deadline. I hope one of them includes Melo. If we could somehow get Melo and Camby in a 3 way trade, and then find a backup pg i'd be ecstatic!

It might be time to give Randolph some run. Turiaf is obviously not right and the Knicks need a big.

I just wonder how we can not only get a guy like Melo, but make the other moves necessary to round out the team. As you know it's not enough just to add Melo to the Mix. We're gonna need help at C and PG too. It's gonna be a tough job for Donnie. His work is far from done and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

agreed, I hope Randolph is showing something in practice like williams was so that D'antoni has no option but to play Randolph because otherwise I don't see D'antoni giving him a run anytime soon.

Next time you see Randolph will be in the next blowout. MDA is a very stubbron man and pretty much set in his ways. Once in his dog house always in the dog house. Have you seen anyone come out of it yet.

given the state of other teams i care about... this team isnt that far away (i hope). cant complain too much, i got to see two games (worked late so missed parts of bos) in a row cuz they flippin matter again -- that is: they are getting enough buzz to get some prime time exposure.
GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

open bar vs knicks/heat is actually a surprisingly tough choice.

you two are of great disappointment to me

It ain't over yet. I've been to this party before and they let the kids takeover the den watching Harry Potter movies and assorted crap. I might lock the kids in the basement and take over the TV room.

I'd hedge. Tell everyone you've got a head cold. And at 8:30 go to the "pharmacy." Self medicate where the 2nd half is on TV

Genius!

hope you caught the 1st and not the 2nd

We're gonna need help at C and PG too. It's gonna be a tough job for Donnie. His work is far from done and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

u trade for him w/o gutting your roster... that allows u to keep 1 or 2 of your young guys so you're not left with a shallow bench, & you also have the MLE & LLE's to use to sign FA's to fill your needs for role players at the C & backup PG positions this summer... that is the most equitable & logical way for us to go about this while still getting our hands on a superstar player of Melo's calibre.
