nothing about what he says, but why in the blue heck should i listen to anything matt damon says? just b/c the douche played a genius in an overrated movie doesn't make him one...

Whats the problem with an American citizen giving their opinion on a candidate? I much rather see Matt Damon or any celebrity really talking about the Presidential election then listening to another story about Britney Spears drug problem. He can't be a complete moron getting into Harvard just saying.

Didn't Bush get into Harvard?

It was Yale and it was because who his father was, not on merit. He was at the bottom of the class. Thats real undeserving Affirmative-Action for ya.

That goes into a larger argument when conservatives want to hit you with the, pick-yourself-up-from-your-bootstraps baloney. Most wealth in this country was amassed at a time when others werent allowed to compete with the Anglo-Saxon, white male. The fortune of their children is sustained and ensured. The gap remains and has, in large part, been exaggerated.

Another point. Middle America is so quick to subscribe to the ideals set forth by the GOP: Success, greed is good, bow to the rich...yeah, yeah. Then why so resentful of 'hollywood liberals?" It wouldnt happen to be that republicans are good at exploiting personal and racial resentment rather than financial.

The country is broke now. Financially and intellectually.

I know most dont care about any opinion outside of the heartland, but the international community is growing quite disturbed by these developments. Voting in a McCain-Palin ticket would confirm that we not only vote for the most frivolous and superficial reasons, but also we, as a country, have not overcome our racial biases. This at time when are standing couldnt be lower and the stakes couldnt be higher.

considering that the US didn't provide "equal rights" until relatively recent in the country's history, i don't see how anybody can assume this country would overcome it's racial biases so quickly and tie that to obama not winning b/c of racial biases. a man of color is one of the final 2 running for president. is the progress as fast as everyone would've liked it to be? nope. but it is still progress...

Bitty, not arguing with you, I actually agree with you, and thing Matt is actually a pretty smart guy. I just want to say though that I live in Boston, and trust me just because you get into Harvard........

I wasn't making a generalization about Harvard students just that Matt Damon wasn't just some dumb pretty boy hanging around at celeb parties. He was actually pursuing an education at one of the best Universities in the world. So yes he could be dumb as bricks but to me (maybe I'm fooled) he seems like a relatively intelligent guy.

Your first couple of sentences were confusing. So am I being unfair in my analysis, or because its already a foregone conclusion am I stating the obvious and should, therefore, shut up.

What you said was fair enough, I just think the psychology is amazing. People are willing to vote against not only the interests of their own personal well-being, but the well-being of this country and the of the world (I dont think I am overstating things.) All because of pigment that one cant control. Its fascinating. Before it was just acceptable and ingrained to treat someone less than human.

Republicans make them sick from the slop they've been serving, and here goes America asking for seconds. And whats the main impetus behind it? Americans will literally risk their lives just so they can wallow in the inertia of of the bigoted and uneducated.

That of course will always be true but Harvard is making the effort to open their doors to kids who would have never had the opportunity to go because of finances. Harvard began an Financial Aid initiative for Middle Class families and families making up 80,000 could goto Harvard free of charge. I also remember reading an article in New York Times magazine where it profiled one of these upper east side private schools and how the parents had paid crazy money on tutors, SAT prep, the whole nine and not one kid got accepted to an Ivy League School. Because now many Ivy League schools are at least publicly making an attempt to be more inclusive and diverse and billion dollar endowments don't hurt when it comes to handing out financial aid. Two of my cousins went to Harvard and from their experiences Harvard offered some pretty sweet financial packages (in comparison to your average Private School) and this was about 7 years ago. Oh another interesting story when I went to my cousin's med school graduation I would say the majority of the class was of other ethnicity; Asian, Indian, African. So at least on the ethnic front there was a lot of diversity.

i don't think we can expect america to vote strictly on their views of the candidate without something like the color of their skin playing a factor. society is not at that point yet. people have to remove not only decades but centuries of oppression/bigotry/prejudice/etc. that is ingrained in everyone's heads. especially while some of these views are still perpetuated today by the ignorant (black and white americans together). it will take time for that to happen so your statement of america not overcoming it's racial biases *yet* is a given and not something that i don't think is all that fascinating. many of our parents or friends of our parents still had to sit in the back of the bus or wanted them to sit in the back of the bus. i don't think one generation is enough to remove that thought process...

that's why obama representing the democratic party is pretty damn impressive and is huge day in the history of this country.

america will vote for it's next president. if they choose mccain over obama, then so be it. it's how the election process works and how america thinks. what can we do?

UK Forum is more intelligent and doesn't fall for that crap.

Results so far for our voting poll for President:

[b]Obama / Biden 29 votes; 82.9%

McCain / Palin 4 votes; 11.4%

Undecided 2 votes; 5.7%

Today's gallop poll is important. I would think we would want to see some weakness for the first time in awhile by McCain via that interview with Palin. I don't think it came off to well and perhaps some reality will kick in.
