TKF.... you've done a masterful job of cahnging the conversation away from Bush's failures to O'Reilly...
If I didn't know any better I would have thought you were actually in this administration.
Anyway... The point of this thread does not have anything to do with O'Reilly...

It has to do with the following:
- Incompetence at the highest levels of FEMA because of inappropriate appointments by Bush to get his friends jobs..
- Bush ordered the Army Corp of Engineer to halt research into strengethening the Levees that broke one year before they actually did.
- and a host of other points listed previously in this rather extensive thread.

actually this thread has been all over the place, take a look. and I haven't highlightes O'reilly's failures as opposed to his accomplishments.

Bush ordered the Army Corp of Engineer to halt research into strengethening the Levees that broke one year before they actually did

So he just did that for no reason, I mean are we not in a war? and BTW the clinton administration also refused the same funds that bush did, to strenghten the levies in NO.. Why not discuss that?

nah, it is easier to bash bush.. I wonder who's administration you are in?

i really don't care about bush, could care less, not a fan of his, Liked clinton better, but I don't like placing blame on the bush admin,to satisfy personal agendas. The mayor of NO, the gov or LA all have to share in this blame, plain and simple....

NYCvector, let's be fair to TKF, though I apparently agree with him on virtually nothing so far. This thread is over 300 posts and has touched on so many things...threads are like the wind, they go where they will and cannot be regimented.
this will be my final post on this issue

Second time you've said that. (Before you accuse me of not supporting with facts:)
but I am done with this,

***
bluff? all I said is why should I provide proof when you haven't, especially with the michael jackson quote.. come on man.

You know what I am talking about, prior to refusing to support your point because of "The Michael Jackson Quote" You wrote:
I can go and get a list of islamic terrorist that went to hospitals in Iraq were harbored there, treated there and realeased, but I have the feeling that by doing that it won't change how you feel.

Once I asked you to do so if you can, you retreated into "You didn't so why should I?" even though I have supported the MJ claim far better than you have ANY of what you have said.
we all can provide links to articles supporting and trashing O'reilly, but next we will have to spend 10 pages arguing the credibilit of the writers of those articles, I am not interested in that...

Any argument rather than support your point?
As far as marriage vows go, I guess every divorcee who vowed to stay together until death them do part, are all liars I guess? Ok if that is how you feel, I guess O'reilly is a liar(rolling eyes) whatever..

First of all, cheating on your spouse does make you a liar, no matter how common human weakness is.

Second, when you take others to task for the same weaknesses you share, you are a hypocrite AND a liar. (O'Reilly did this.) It is like calling someone else a theif while you are robbing a bank. Jerry Falwell did this in the 80's with his own cheating scandal.
Next you trivailize his work against child molesters and crooked and irresponsible judges, heck at least he is doing that instead of looking for some story that is purely sensationalism. I applaud his work in that area..

I have not trivialized his plethora of good works at all, please show me where I have. I have dissed him plenty though.
As far as his ability to speak on morals. remember the man was ACCUSED!! not convicted, other than that he has a clean record in the morality dept, unless you have proof otherwise. He was accused and the accuser too money to go away.

Holy Spin Job Batman! He got beat. The transcripts will one day surface. On that day you will say: "Have they been authenticated by the Smithsonian?"
Who is really the bad guy here?

O'Reilly the sexual harrasser.
call him what you want, he claims to be for the people, I think he is, he claims to be fair, I think he is,

and you don't want to read, see or hear anything different!
he also claims to look out for children and the common man, and he has done that, I have given you examples of that, but you trivialize them.

One example you have given, and a vague one at that. Now please, again, show me where I trivialized it.
Again he attacks issues that no one seems to want to touch,

Such as?
he holds people responsible,

Except himself. Oh! And Bush and the rest of the boyz at the top of the current administration.
he expects people to be accountable and I like that.

Except himself. Oh! And Bush and the rest of the boyz at the top of the current administration.
right wing or not he does have high standards

Such as? Higher than who?
and if your only rebuttle to that is a accusation which went away with some money, then I say that is weak, and doesn't hold water any longer....

So as long as he can buy his way out of his problems, he will always have your support I guess.

***

Once again, Bill O'Reilly is not a monster. But he is a person in a position of power due to the popularity of his show. He has done some good with that power. On the other hand, he has shown little by little that he he does not hold himself to the very standards of morals(Clinton) and guilt(Jackson) that he himself put forth.

He also has been revealed as a tool of the right. How? He was all over the Clinton administration during the most prosperous and safest time in America's history for anything he could find (Including carnal morals.). Yet, he continually makes excuses for the disaster that is the Bush administration.

Nuff said on "B.O." reilly.

Maybe I confused him with Jimmy Swaggart. And Fallwell was stealing from his congregation?

Jack Cafferty on CNN:

Somewhere along the way FEMA became a dumping ground for the president's political cronies with little experience in disaster relief. The agency's first director was Joe Albaugh. He was president Bush's 2000 campaign chairman. Albaugh brought in the current failure Michael Brown. His previous work was with Arabian horses. The number two guy, Brown's top deputy at FEMA, is a fellow named Patrick Rhode. He worked for the 2000 election campaign. The number 3 guy at FEMA is Brooks Altshuler. He used to work in the White House. His job was planning presidential trips. FEMA's long term recovery director is a guy named Scott Morris. He produced television and radio commercials for the Bush campaign. The federal agency charged with handling national emergencies is staffed at the very top by a bunch of political hacks with virtually no experience that qualifies them to respond to something like Katrina. But I digress.

[...]

Where are the qualifications of these people? None of these guys is qualified based on the stuff I'm reading, to head up an emergency management agency. One of these guys worked with Arabian horses, The rest are all off the campaign trial. Planned presidential trips. Produced TV commercials. Don't you need somebody at the top running the organization who has some semblance of an idea of what the hell is required when there's an emergency?

Have you ever tried to control an Arabian horse? I sure haven't, but I heard it is MUY HARD!

If you just think of Katrina as a million Arabian Horses, who better than Michael "The Animal" Brown to respond to this emergency?

It looks like I was being kind when I used the word puffery to characterize Brown's resume:

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1103003,00.html

How Reliable Is Brown's Resume?

A TIME investigation reveals discrepancies in the FEMA chief's official biographies

When President Bush nominated Michael Brown to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 2003, Brown's boss at the time, Joe Allbaugh, declared, "the President couldn't have chosen a better man to help...prepare and protect the nation." But how well was he prepared for the job? Since Hurricane Katrina, the FEMA director has come under heavy criticism for his performance and scrutiny of his background. Now, an investigation by TIME has found discrepancies in his online legal profile and official bio, including a description of Brown released by the White House at the time of his nomination in 2001 to the job as deputy chief of FEMA. (Brown became Director of FEMA, succeeding Allbaugh, in 2003.)

Before joining FEMA, his only previous stint in emergency management, according to his bio posted on FEMA's website, was "serving as an assistant city manager with emergency services oversight." The White House press release from 2001 stated that Brown worked for the city of Edmond, Okla., from 1975 to 1978 "overseeing the emergency services division." In fact, according to Claudia Deakins, head of public relations for the city of Edmond, Brown was an "assistant to the city manager" from 1977 to 1980, not a manager himself, and had no authority over other employees. "The assistant is more like an intern," she told TIME. "Department heads did not report to him." Brown did do a good job at his humble position, however, according to his boss. "Yes. Mike Brown worked for me. He was my administrative assistant. He was a student at Central State University," recalls former city manager Bill Dashner. "Mike used to handle a lot of details. Every now and again I'd ask him to write me a speech. He was very loyal. He was always on time. He always had on a suit and a starched white shirt."

[...]

Brown's lack of experience in emergency management isn't the only apparent bit of padding on his resume, which raises questions about how rigorously the White House vetted him before putting him in charge of FEMA. Under the "honors and awards" section of his profile at FindLaw.com — which is information on the legal website provided by lawyers or their offices—he lists "Outstanding Political Science Professor, Central State University". However, Brown "wasn't a professor here, he was only a student here," says Charles Johnson, News Bureau Director in the University Relations office at the University of Central Oklahoma (formerly named Central State University). "He may have been an adjunct instructor," says Johnson, but that title is very different from that of "professor." Carl Reherman, a former political science professor at the University through the '70s and '80s, says that Brown "was not on the faculty." As for the honor of "Outstanding Political Science Professor," Johnson says, "I spoke with the department chair yesterday and he's not aware of it." Johnson could not confirm that Brown made the Dean's list or was an "Outstanding Political Science Senior," as is stated on his online profile.

So as I have been away, the talk has gone from attacking Bush (still doing it, just not as much) to attacking OReilly. TKF, you must realize that if the guy agrees with any Republican he will be bashed. That is the mantra.

As for Bush, let's take a look at some facts that have surfaced since last week.

-FEMA reacted poorly and as history has proven always does.
-MAYOR Naggin left hundreds and hundreds of busses unused and underwater eventually rather than using them to get HIS people out
-the STATE told the REDCROSS not to get food and basic essentials to the SUPERDOME!!!!!!!!!! THE STATE!
-the GOV, waited 24 hours to execute a request from BUSH to allow the FED to take over! THE GOVERNOR!
-BUSH has ordered over 60BILLION dollars so far to help the people that he supposedly hates and is racist against.
-Bush was 24 hours late in understanding that those who should have reacted did not. THE THOSE are iN ORDER - NAGGIN, BLANCO, FEMA.
-13% of the people blame BUSH in the US. Here its like 99%.
-THe BUSH ADMIN has spent more $$ on the levees in the last 5 years than CLINTON did in his last 5. IN addition, the STATE OF LOUISIANA has DIVERTED THE $$$$, to buy CASINOS? NOW HOW DOES THAT HELP YOUR PEOPLE, Governor? MAYOR?
- IN any case the LEVEE that broke had been COMPLETED already!!! IT WAS a CAT 3 level LEVEE. NEVER meant to be a 5 regardless of the $$ coming in! THE JOB WAS DONE! IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY ANYWAY!!!!!!!

The point of this all is that many people, when something like this happens, want to blame someone. THE MEDIA sure made it as easy as possible for you to point the finger at the guy you all seem to love to hate and you took the bait as usual. The FACTS ARE THAT EVERYONE MESSED UP. TO blame one guy, one person just because you HATE him so much you are blind, is just reactionary and short sighted. But I am sure, that will not change your mind. YOu will just come back at me with more rants and raves and half truths all to match your pre-disposed feelings. It makes you feel better to blame the guy. Oh he doesn't care about us.

Let's remember too, that is was the DEMOCRATS who wanted to the HOMELAND SECURITY OFFICE AND put FEMA under it. ADD to the bureacracy. THEY VOTED It in too! What were the local SENATORS doing about getting more $$ for their people? THey knew what could happen for 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are they without blame too? How about the fact that the NO and Louisiana have had DEMOCRATS running their city and STATE for the last 60 yrs. WHy are the people so poor then? OH I know, its all BUSH's fault, right. 60 years of DEMOCRATIC and SOCIALISTIC ideas have nothing to with it, right.

excellent post gony, I mentioned that the mayor rejected a request to get boats for the police dept, I mentioned that clinton also denied money to NO for the levies, but that gets skipped around and bush gets the blame...

As far as O'reilly goes, I understand that since he does not bash bush, he will be hated, and the best people can come up with are sexual harrasment ALLEGATIONS!!!

Those aren't crickets, it's the sound of the clock ticking down the time left in this disaster of a president's term of office.

From your article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/08/AR2005090801667_pf.html

The president. Late, slow, and simply out of tune with the urgency and magnitude of the disaster. The second he heard that the levees had been breached in New Orleans, he should have canceled his schedule and addressed the country on national television to mobilize it both emotionally and physically to assist in the disaster. His flyover on the way to Washington was the worst possible symbolism. And his Friday visit was so tone-deaf and politically disastrous that he had to fly back three days later.

thats a good article. I do disagree with the war in Iraq impacting the NG and their ability to mobilize. I dont know the #s to be honest, but I will keep going back to my orginal point about my 2 friends in the NG and hurricane Floyd. 12 hours after it hit their units (NJ) were flown to Fla for security. They stayed as part of a massive labor force for 4 weeks. Now they are in Iraq, along with their unit's vehicles.

There is no doubt that local gov failed first and foremost. There arent very man Rudy G's and we were lucky to have him after 9/11 happened (so was Bush for that matter). That being the Fed gov is the ultimate authority and I cant imagine how they and FEMA werent more involved from the get go for a disaster of this magnitude.

I'm not looking to blame Bush for this. That doesnt make any sense. It is however an example of how bad this administration is IMO.

thats a good article.

If Rudy ever ran for Prez, not only will I have to vote...I may have to try and vote twice...
