i think Nady's just a calm guy personality wise but this team has too many of those types, they need someone to get guys pumped up a little in the clubhouse & Swish brings that element... remember our dynasty teams had some real fiery personalities in the dugout between Leyritz, Paulie, Tino, Rocket, Boomer & Wetteland (& even Zim)... right now there isn't 1 guy in the Yankee dugout that tries to pump up his teammates other than Joba... Swish adds a nice balance to the usual bland, calm & professional approach that the rest of these guys like to take.

I noticed this last season. You could throw Cone into that mix. This team lacks energy. Nobody seems pissed that the Orioles are getting the better of them. Everyone is collecting a check. C.C. should be the firey guy but so far nada.

Swisher, if he returns pre-2008 form, can be around as good as what Abreu gives you nowadays, lower avg, more power, roughly the same OPS.

yup, i know it's not the case, but sometimes it's almost like these guys don't even give a crap that they made the last out to end a rally, or didn't do their job to get a runner over... they just trot back to the dugout like "ah well, whatever... i got my money coming"... even the longtime Yankees give me that feeling at times... i said it the past couple years, we need someone to break some bats in the dugout after they get a bad call or have a bad atbat... someone to show some damn fire & passion & wake the other guys up once in a while.

when ARod comes back Ransom becomes the utility guy... i would rather have Swisher starting than Nady... gives Girardi more versatility w/his switch hitting in the lineup & it's not like Nady's some kinda defensive gold glover out in RF too, so we don't lose anything there.

To be fair, I think Nady's a better overall player than Swisher. But Swish can play and he's gonna see time here if Nady doesn't produce. He a tremendous clubhouse guy too, very likeable dude. You need guys like that.

Burnett just has electric stuff and he's not even going full throttle yet. Was great to see him throw a good game. We need Pettitte to throw a good game here today. Just keep us in the game. He's on a short leash as far as I'm concerned. He needs to prove to me that he's more capable than a guy like Phil Hughes or a guy like Al Aceves (who pitched pretty well last year). Pettitte's a shell of what he used to be and I don't think he can get by with the same approach anymore - pounding righthanders in with cutters, etc.. The stuff's just not there anymore for that. And on the flip side, I don't see him becoming a older Frank Tanana, Jamie Moyer type either. He never got guys out with a changeup and I don't see him going that route now. If KC smacks him around today and he gets lit up a few times more, I'm looking in a different direction if I'm Girardi. GREAT Yankee, but his time's coming to an end I'm afraid. Hope I'm wrong. We'll see. Hopefully there's enough gas left in the tank for one more go-around this year...

Alright, he we go. 2 zip. Off and running. They should smell blood in this series and look to steamroll the Royals.

Andy still has another 2 good years left in his arm IMO... he'll be fine... he's been throwing more slow curves & there's no reason to think he can't develop a change up either... Moose did so to great effect just a year ago & he was always more of a power pitcher too... Andy slowed down at the tail end of last year but he still should've won at least 17 games if not for some shoddy relief pitching in some of his games last year.

Andy was great. The only run he gave up was because Swisher f'd up. Should have been an error.

eh, it's not impossible but career-wise, Abreu's OPS is about 100 points higher than Swisher's.

Everything I said before just throw it in the trash. Andy was great today and made me eat my words. Well-spotted fastball all game long at 89-90 (which is plenty if he can sustain that 100+ pitches deep every time out) with a very good curveball and changeup. Threw as many curveballs and changeups as I ever remember him throwing in a game. The deuce was his outpitch today. Rarely went to the cutter which has been his signature for years. Hey man he was very effective and looked very strong to me -- I know you don't look to overextend your starters esp. this early in the season but I think he easily could've gone 9 today and finished it, that's how strong & focused he looked. Gotta be taken with a tiny grain of salt as it came against Kansas City but still, well done - KC did look good their first series, taking 2 of 3 from the Chi Sox on the road where they scored a lot of runs. Andy was excellent today. The way he carved up that young lineup bodes well for fellow lefty Sabathia tomorrow night you would think. Time to start rolling fellas...

outside of game 1, how about that bullpen? 10 innings 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 12 strikeouts.

The bullpen's definitely a strength. It's a very complete pen. 2 VERY GOOD lefthanders (there was a time when we didn't even have a lefty in the pen last year when an ineffective Traber was demoted & before the Marte/Nady trade and the Coke call-up - now we have two of the better situational lefty relievers in the sport), Ramirez is a good guy to use against righties and lefties, Albaladejo's younger than Dan Geise with better stuff - he's fine in the long role, Bruney and Veras both have VERY GOOD stuff and compare favorably to some of the better 8th inning guys around the league (OK neither guy's Joba but to me Bruney and Veras are just as good as a guy like Manny Delcarmen for example) and Mo's the man and still going strong even after the surgery to remove calcium deposits from the right shoulder - Mo's still the best in the biz. And guys like Al Aceves, Mark Melancon, Humberto Sanchez & JB Cox are only a phone call away if we run into any problems. We're in good shape with the bullpen right now...

Swisher's on FIYAHHH! keep him in the starting lineup & put Nady back on the bench or in a part time DH role once Teix comes back from his sore wrist.

yeah but seriously i've never liked Xavier Nady... feel free to read up on the threads when we made the trade of Tabata to get that guy... & i've been saying for the longest that this team needs some more rah rah type personalities & Swisher definitely seems to fit the bill.

Going from Abreu to Nady/Swisher was a BIG downgrade

so far it's looking like a huge upgrade.

Swisher's had a nice stretch, although Nady, who has been playing RF at least half the time is a big downgrade

Nady's actually having a better start to the season than Abreu.

I was talking about the long-haul. Any player can outplay any player in a few games. It doesn't even make sense to talk about the "kind of season you're having" after 5 games
