What could we offer Oubre, the non tax payer MLE? Is it 8.6M?

Yeah, I just can’t ever seeing Oubre fitting with the Knicks with its current roster. Way too much overlap and nothing of need.

You could non-guarantee Bogey - eat his 2mm guarantee and replace him by using the non-taxpayer MLE on Oubre - which is 12-13mm. Oubre is way better on D, but Bogey is a far superior shooter, especially from 3. Oubre only a 32% guy on pretty high volume. Oubre a good scorer overall, but may not be the spacer we want. Would he take the MLE? Its an interesting question, but in essence you'd be trading Bogey for him and probably handing a deal that's at least 4 yrs where Bogey comes off next year.

Not as high on Oubre as some others are here, but he showed something against us in the playoffs for sure.

Yeah good call.

Celtics are on the opposite side of the pendulum than the Knicks are on - within that band of possible deep EC playoff teams - but are better positioned to win big in short, 2-year window today whereas the Knicks are better positioned next year and a bit further down the road? Maybe build to last and compete at high level solidly for 4-5 years? I think that feels right.

For the Celtics, the play and management (trade, health, backups) of KP and Horford over next 2 years will most determine their ceiling, all things being equal. They are tight on salary cap but good on their starting 4. I don’t know how solid their bench is. They got their picks for 3 more years but they’ll be late firsts and their 2028 and 2029 are pretty much gone. KP is 28, Horford is 38 and Jrue is 34, rest of team 28 and younger’ish.

For the Knicks, their ceiling will be determined on how the manage their next moves using their current (and plentiful) assets. Randle, Josh are 29 and the rest are 27 and younger. IMHO Knicks got one last really good upgrade move in play for them.

That seems reasonable to me, right?

Him and Bojan. AND PICKS!!!

As if his 25-10,allstar and ALL NBA last few years is not A STAR? Production like that does not grow on trees.
Granted, Bojan won't avg 20ppg off the bench, but he can light it up from time to time as needed. ANd its needed.
Oubre don't light it up like that. If we bring most back, Josh, with iHart or Mitch is not a potent offense.

as for KAT, Im not sure I'd do that trade but I sure as hell would not be throwing in picks.

I don’t know if there are 3 guys in the league that you could legit combine Randle, Bogey, pick and get an actual sensible upgrade if it’s a consolidation?

Maybe Giannis and Booker. That’s all I can come up with. Anyone else?

Theoretically, Anunoby can discuss an extension with the Knicks because he’s still under contract for next season. However, he will surely decline his player option for a mere $19.9 million and end up nearly doubling his salary on a new deal.

As with Indiana above, New York likely had a strong idea of what the magic number was for Anunoby before acquiring him from Toronto last winter. The fact he is represented by CAA, the unofficial official agency of the Knicks, adds another level to this. Anunoby won’t get a max but might not end up too far from it. I’d look for something in the range of four years and $140 million to $150 million.

Yes, listen to Jeremy Cohen as he's the only one covering the Knicks who has been able to clearly explain the scenarios around the 2 aprons in simple/realistic terms.

He makes another fair point - if we waive Bogs and get the Non-Taxpayer MLE - even if we don't use it, it can be a trade exception.

Even after going through the options, I'm still not sure I waive Bogs - I think for an MLEish salary slot, he's as good a shooter/scorer available. I'd rather play him out a year and let him expire. I think we never got to realize the full vision of the roster this year.

Bondy's got nothing - and I don't think he has the mental capacity to understand the new CBA. Katz is the only reporter of ours who's capable of analyzing anything basketball related. I think Begley's the only one who can break news.

There’s only so many chairs to go around before the music stops. From the assets thread

There could be teams who can create the cap space but I don’t know who they could be right now. The rumor mill is just heating up. Will Detroit eat contracts again for asset? Sure they will if they can’t build out their roster in FA

Could be genuine thing.
Could be Sam needs to look good for existing and potential clients?
Knicks not "tampering" or anything but lets just say with all the Nepo going with after Rick/Jalen/Sam/Leon they need to have some transparency.
If OG or others got wind he could have gotten more money from other team and did not have the opportunity it would not look good for Sam to be colluding with his dad.
Just my guess. Also it could be one of Sam's partners might be negotiating for OG on contract? OG might want it this way? Sam and Leon might want it also?
