Raymond Felton can make himself better by not dropping his focus on the dribble. Waiting for players to get in position for set plays, as he dribbles, his occasional habit of looking down tips off the defender on the timing. With his head down, his teammates also know he cannot see them. The simple fix is for Raymond to be aware of his body language at all times, not get stuck in tunnel vision.

Pablo has his head up at all times.

True.

Hard to teach at this point. He just does not have good court vision. Can he change? Who knows but I have not seen it happen this late in ones career.

i believe you can work on dribbling with your head up as a basketball skill when you are young enough and your brain is still forming. if you rely on athleticism to get over and don't work on developing skills during your teen years it eventually catches up with you.

felton does not have good court vision because court vision is a natural gift and he does not possess that gift. even if he had that gift, what good is it if you dribble with your head down?

it's too late to learn.

felton has two problems, one he does not dribble with his head up and two, he cannot maintain his dribble. hence it makes orchestrating next to impossible.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

The scientific link between dribbling a basketball and brain formation is published where exactly?

Felton is either going to play himself into getting traded or benched.

In either case the Knicks win.

Compatibility

Pablo Prigioni could supplant Felton in the starting lineup by February. (you heard it here first) Rationale: With the return of Stoudemire, what better running buddy than a guard he has familiarity with?

Mike Woodson is not wed to any rotation. You play defense. You gets minutes.

Shift du Valentines Day

Prigioni (only if his defense holds up)
Kidd (The Captain)
Brewer (closely monitored)
Carmelo (simply beautiful)
Chandler (rested with Sheed or Camby in reserve)

Felton with responsibility to spread the ball to 3 pure shooters
JR (just now growing into his Kobe-like skills)
Novak (45 per cent from three is decent)
Sheed/(Orange, New Jersey's Chris Copeland is a great story and already a fan favorite)
Amar'e (rolling and picking with Felton again)

Camby and Kurt as insurance
James White (in emergency), yes, even the last man on our bench can play

19-6 is kinda sexy.

Thank you Mike Woodson.

Oh, now we heard it hear first.
When others and I said Felton had room for improvement, you felt you needed to argue about it.
Now you're the "first" to say he'll be demoted. Nice try, slick.

I like Felton. He plays hard on both ends and isn't a bad distributor. He however continues to have horrible shooting with that 1 handed floater. He also calls his number way too much. When stat comes back they are going to conflict.

it's self-evident. hand eye and foot eye and hand and foot coordination is much more easily developed when the brain is at its most plastic and the brain is at its most plastic-- creating new neural pathways-- during the first 16 years of life. why bother arguing this point? it's as plain as the nose on your face. and if it were not the case then explain the dropoff in point guard play and big man play?

there you go.

dk7th - can you please explain why the deferring 76er Chet Walker became a dominant scorer as a Chicago Bull late in his career?

How did the solo virtuoso Earl Monroe learn to share the ball with Walt Frazier after years of being the focal point?

Is Carmelo (or JR) the same player he was in Denver?

Just curious.

I brought this up before Felton does dribble with his head down and he misses open guys and then throws up bricks

if you don't want to concede the point that's your business. all you're doing is changing the subject. nevertheless....

monroe bought into the ultimate team culture (and frazier helped him by feeding the hot hand). and monroe has a ring to show for it. in araton's great book when the garden was eden, monroe certainly expressed misgivings but who can argue with a title?
jr is pretty much the same player but at least he comes cheap.
anthony is shooting the 3 at an amazing clip, with as much accuracy as he shoots the 2. he is also in reasonable shape for the first time as a knick (it would have been swell if he was in shape for d'antoni), and maybe for the 3rd time in his entire career. hooray for melo.

Felton's court vision is just fine. While it is not elite, it is very good. His problem is his mental approach and bball IQ. He will be OK when he starts following Kidd's footsteps.

Felton is in a slump right now but I expect him to pick it up at some point. He's actually getting really looks off the PNR about 12 feet and in. Some balls have rolled off the rim, but if he continues to get the same consistent looks, they'll drop for him. The biggest thing for him is to stay aggressive.

We've seen this inconsistent Felton before during his first tour of duty. Nothing new here. It's these slumps and inconsistencies that keep him a level below his 05 draft brethren- Paul and Williams. Felton is a middle of the pack pg and this is how middle of the pack pg's play. Look like allstars for a stretch and look like back-ups the next. Once and Shump and Stat come back it'll bump Felton down a notch on the scoring pecking order and make him that much more eefective as the 4th or 5th option as opposed to the 3rd option.

BTW, despite Feltons slump, we've still won 8 of 10....

Harvey Araton is one of the best sports journalists ever. The point being, Monroe did change his game to suit Clyde, after he had established being the man in Baltimore.

jr is pretty much the same player but at least he comes cheap.

If you claim JR is the same player under Mike Woodson you did not watch him calmly walk away from a confrontation that would have exploded last season. Jr is different. He is defending with purpose and rebounding the ball. Mr. Smith was the primary ball handler in the second half last night. The trust he is being shown by Woodson (along with a few well-placed jabs) is a huge factor in his development. Besides, the size of his paycheck is irrelevant.

anthony is shooting the 3 at an amazing clip, with as much accuracy as he shoots the 2. he is also in reasonable shape for the first time as a knick (it would have been swell if he was in shape for d'antoni), and maybe for the 3rd time in his entire career. hooray for melo.

Forget focusing on offense, Carmelo has reinvented himself on the defensive end. Reasonable shape? No. Carmelo has better health than last season playing point forward... and playing well for a coach who understands that individuals matter over schemes.

Does Carmelo playing while injured count?

What are you saying? Year 9 of his career is when he will learn the difference between a smart and stupid shot?
