peep what Martin just posted. great explanation and of course it broke down into talking all about Melo. Put my armchair GM plan there but it all makes more sense after reading martin's post

Viable options if you're gonna go that route??

PG:
SG:
PF:

Also I thought the whole point of the MLE was that you could use it to go over the cap to sign ONE player..not that it gives you $5 Mill to use however you please.

PG: Kidd
SG: Belinelli, Lee, Gerald Green
PF/SF: Odom

its in my sig

Danny Green is another great option

No way that's happening with $5 million total.

Kidd will get at least $3
Belinelli will also get at LEAST $3
and Odom is vet min.

Bottom pricing for the 3 combined is around $7. And that's BOTTOM, meaning their agents were out to lunch on the same day.

Both SAS and Brussard say that LA either Lakers or Clippers are Odom's top destinations. They say after that, it is still a risk with him.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, the expectations for Odom would be too high here. And, we're forcing another "savior" situation.
So instead, management looks at what Odom could bring: passing, mid range game, ball movement, IQ at the 3/4 spots: and look for other ways to make that happen, even if you sacrafice a little bit.
He's a gamble any way you look at it. If he lands in NY, fine, but if not, fine. Adding him alone will not make or break the season and the potential of the club. That relies on the teamwork and leadership of the guys already on the club.

I disagree...all the pressure is still on melo to be our savior
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

As it should be IMO. Lots of people call him the best scorer in the league. So keep that, add leadership and defense, and let him take us there.

yeah i would say the knicks are 4th. Behind the LA teams and the Heat. That means they have no chance

Another huge aspect of acquiring odom is finally having someone who can compete defensively against lebron. So Lebron can't do whatever he wants with the ball

Odom is 2 years older since his last good year in LA. I'd love to sign him ut I don't know if he can guard LeBron even if his head is right and he's in shape. The Key isn't stoppinf LeBron, because you can't. The key is good solid team defense and smart rotations. We have the makings of a good defensive team. But STAT puts a huge crux in that.

Yeq im not expecting odom to stop james in anyway. Its just easier to play team defense when you have players that understand the concept which amare clearly doesnt

sad but true. i feel like defensive awareness isn't something a player can work on solo during the offseason. if only amare had woodson coaching him from day 1 of his career

Very true, but it IS something that can be worked on with Tyson Chandler in there for the first full training camp! Wouldn't it be amazing if him working with Amare leads to a major change next year defensively. It could, he wasn't DPOY for nothing.

Amen to that. Really hope a full training camp and a full season of Tyson and Woody improves everyone's defensive awareness but most especially Amare. Right now he kills us on D..if he could go from that to even just being a league average defender at his position...
