I don't want to say what kind of record we would have had with MDA, the could easily be playig just as good offensivly. but I highly doubt they woul be winning games shooting 38% for the game..The defense has been just wooow!!

the defense has been extremely impressive. not to mention he's dealt with as many or more injuries than d'antoni and has kept the team playing hard and well.

...yes, and he is doing what a good coach who fits well with his team is supposed to do, configure the system to use the strengths of the players to the team's advantage, and motivate them to step up and become a cohesive, efficient unit.

Woodson is showing that he deserves a shot to lead this team to the promised land. A bird in the hand beats two in the bush.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

14-5 under Woody, 8-4 without Lin/Amare. Great job by MW so far, hope he can carry this momentum into the playoffs!

the potential that the season could wind up like the following is ridiculous:

Woodson: 18-6
D'Antoni: 18-24

MDA aspired to have his stars fill roles and be a great team.

Woodson is winning with letting his team be good with his stars playing like stars.

MDA failed.

Woodson is achieving by lowering the standard.

Is one better than the other?

Yeah, winning is better!

Are we true contenders?

We can argue it all day long, but we need only tune in and see for ourselves!

Having stars playing like stars is "lowering the standard"? And who's standard is that?

Champion contention.

Do you think this team is a true contender?

Forget the potential of everyone and Injury. Just with what it is right now.

Next year we will have players improving and some that might not be back. We don't even know

Again, MDA tried to make a super team by having his star players be in roles. If you can do that I really thing we had the talent to win a championship.

But stars won't have any of that. So basically the end result was MDA failed. We had no PG and MDA wanted Melo to play a role as point forward. Did not work. The spacing problem with our front line was problematic.

Linsanity without Melo and Amare proved the system can work when your players all buy in. Im not saying they were contenders but the sum of the parts were greater than the individual pieces.

When you bring back in two all star players the sum did not add up. If you can get them too adapt it could have. Melo could not do this. May have been silly to even try.

So my point is if you can get the very talented pieces to add up to a greater sum, you can have a very special championship run. This I think is what Larry Brown did in Detroit to beat the Lakers. This is what Dallas did last year.

I believe this is what made PHil Jax win 11 rings in 20 years with many differnt pieces.

This is what MDA failed to do. Its what Riley failed to do in NY and Miami with Mourning. What Adelman failed to do in Sacremento and POrtland. What Karl Failed to do in Seattle. These coaches had great talant but the sum would not exceed the individual pieces. They were contenders and very very good teams that were successful.

At this point Melo is playing great individual ball but I don't think the team can sustain this and win a championship.

Thats the standard. Or at least that is my standard.

So in my estimation we are not contenders. Im not saying we have to win a chip to validate the team, but a trip to conference finals would show a lot.

True contention is my standard.

To win a championship you have to cross some hurdles. We are in progress but not there yet.

I think we are playing more like a 3-4-5 seeds if were had this all season.

3-1 the rest of the way and it's a lock (even as it should already be one). And with Melo playing this way. People are just hating to be hating at this point.

No one is hating on Melo. When Melo was stinking it up and deserved to get bashed it was warranted. Now he's playing well and being the team leader he should've been.

Woody has also found a balance between his offensive style and the things that worked under MDA. There's been a clear change of approach, which was needed because the team was struggling on offense. Woody realized that Melo can play well in any style, but his role players need to play more of a style that they had before. Uptempo, Spread floor, PnR, Ball and Player movement. No more standing around and watching Melo. It's something that always could've worked, but now he's got them getting a bit more balance. They've still got to be careful with jacking up too many 3's but Woody is no fool. This style works for the roster he has. Pair that with the great D they play and this team can really compete in the playoffs.

And this epiphany that Mike had to modify his style was right before the Boston game? Don't be silly. Mike has been complaining about tempo almost every game because ... wait for it ... a little longer ... BECAUSE B-SH1TTY COULD NOT GET THE BALL DOWN THE COURT WITH MORE THAN 4-5 SECONDS REMAINING ON THE SHOT CLOCK.

B-Sh1tty sits. Bibby-sanity comes in and guess what? We have some time to work with. Voila!!

And at the same time Feast-or-Faminitis (JR) goes nuts and is hitting shots from half court!!

But we have our cute little Nixluva in the game thread saying "I told you! I was right! Yes me!" our own Stuart Smalley. "it was the spread offense that woody brought back"

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are just an adorable cute fella.
