I don't know if Joe Alexander really has the goods, but Gordon, Lopez, Augustin and Bayless sure seem to.

Bayless is averaging 5.5 pts & 1.8 assists in 14 minutes & shooting 27% from 3 pt range & he's got the goods, but Gallo clearly doesn't... it's a good thing Joe Alexander isn't averaging 6 pts. in 20 minutes or else he'd be the goods too.

Also, why would you need Bayless when you already have Nate? If we had drafted Bayless he'd be getting slammed right now too.

exactly... Nate is so much better than Bayless right now it's not even a debate, yet we still have fans waxing poetically about how we missed out by not drafting him... i don't get it.

Bayless is better than what the Knicks got.

According to Newsday, D'Antoni thinks that Gallo should be putting up 8 threes a game. Does he even touch the basketball 8 times a game.

I'd be fine with that the way he's looking lately. Still think we reached on the pick, but he's showing a glimmer of hope now.

We should have traded whatever it would have taken to get OJ. That's what I thought at the time and if Lee would have done it, we made a mistake not to make that move.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Bip, we wouldn't be slamming Bayless. A LOT of people on this board wanted the guy. Not me, personally, but a lot of people did.

Maybe you are right. Maybe they don't slam Bayless, but someone would be getting slammed. If Bayless was riding the pine and putting up at best Gallinari type numbers, while Nate was playing like he is off the bench?.........Walsh would be getting killed for wasting that draft pick on a player that we already have. Someone who probably at best turns out to be Nate.

Gallo, played well tonight, he seems to be getting more and more comfortable. Would like to see him get all of Jefferies and Q's minutes.

Three more points and he will tie Lavor Postell's career high.

Bayless hasn't exactly been tearing it up of late in Portland, averaging 1.7 points a game over the last 2 weeks... i have a feeling he'd be getting ripped apart too... Knick fans want instant gratification from draft picks, no matter how young they are or how much supposed upside they were scouted to have.

How about Channing Frye then?

He scored 19 points in just his 6th game.

Isles, the fact that you refuse to give Gallinari ANY sort of credit, even when he has a good game is pretty stupid. I'm not asking you to root for him like you would if he was Jerryd Bayless or something but come on dude.

You really need to compare the whole game. Let's pull all sorts of names out then.
And I know you know that, so I'm not going to throw all other stats out there to prove you otherwise.

How about Eddie Lee Wilkins. He had 24 points in his first game. It doesn't mean much we all know how good he turned out.

while gallo and frye are both good catch and shoot guys, gallo has far better overall offensive skills and may even be a better defender.

i never really remember frye doing anything on offense besides hit jump shots.

did frye have any one-on-one skills?

i admit i liked frye at first (dj su can attest to that), but it was clear that he not only did he not have enough of a developed offensive game, but mentally he seemed to not be there.

gallo already seems to have a bounce to his personality that seems respectful to his teammates, but also confident.

he looks awkward sometimes when he waddles, but i think in his case it's more of cultural style thing.

look at how excited lee was when he did the studder step move to a three and then after the next three he hit in a players eye. breen repeatedly stated that his teammates really like him, because he can not only score, but create, and is generally unselfish.

i never remember frye being good at anything other than hitting jump shots. once teams started to get this, they just collapsed on him. he never developed a inside game or a move that worked while guarded closely, taking his guy off the dribble.

gallo already shows ability to do that.

with practically zero hops, he scored right on josh smith, using his body and hesitation to score. he even blocked smith, although was called for a foul.

i'm not saying he's great now, but the potential is already pretty clearly better than frye's.

regardless, measuring players' talent/skill/potential purely by points scored as a way to show either positives or negatives is pretty flawed reasoning, no? i would hope that all of us know that, and should avoid using one piece of stats as a way to demonstrate causality.
