The intention of such "behavior"... rather enforcement... is to maintain the superiority of one group of people over another. The intentions are as clear as using Blackface images to sell detergent or pancakes. "Nappy headed hoes" is simply an extension of "ignorant savages" ... who deserve to be kept as slaves... and always treated as such.

In this particular incident--Don Imus should be canned--and its headed that way. However,if you have ever been to a Dave Chappelle or Eddie Murphy concert live--75%+ of the material is aimed at making fun of white people--sometimes quite maliciously as well and they get to work freely. There is a double-standard in this department--sans Howard Stern who could say anything and get away with it. I can't imagine if one of those girls were my daughters-- and even if they they arent it still outrages me what he said--while there certainly was a malicious racist overtone--he also hit the chord with many parents of all races.

your turn

it's pretty funny how you talk about how most of the threads here and at other places are filled with garbage posts and the like and how you can't debate a point because of the meandering minds most and then *BAM* you yourself are doing just that.

I've seen you post many times before in reference to your own SAT scores as a way of indirectly pointing out the lack to intelligence to everyone else posting around you. "I never attach anyone" or something there about... and then you take quotes of out context and shoot me an innocent question of "do you have something of substance to contribute?"?

Give me a break. Step up and add your experience and time and SAT scores like Blue or Nalod try to do.

If you have got something to add to this discussion then add it. If you want to bait and run and dodge all day long, know that plenty are sitting at their computer wondering if you are ever gonna say something without trying to prop yourself up and demean another at the same time.

Briggs - excellent points on the comparisons between comedians Murphy and Chapelle. Comedy is a tricky subject. The best comedians are more rooted in commentary and manage to craft the truth in a way to force the audience to confront the world from a different angle. What might be interesting to note in this context is Chapelle's usage of White actors and writers.

The planning meetings for edgy skits are intense and constantly reviewed. I don't think the cast would be complicit in messages that were so far over the top as to simply insult someone as Imus did.

Your outstanding point about parents is the one many people are missing.

The Rutgers girls are college students fer cryin' out loud.

just for the record Martin... nowhere have I made any mention of my SAT scores... or any of the negative things you claim... I don't even know where your venom towards my right to post a thought, like everyone else, comes from...

what is your problem, really?

Big difference Briggs. Dave Chappelle used to do his show on comedy central which before the show came on it let you know that there maybe offensive material. You have to fork over money to go watch his shows which is why I don't have such an issue with Micheal Richards since his was done at his show that people paid to go see. Imus said his racist remarks on freaking MSNBC and WFAN! One being a news network and the other a sports radio station. That is troubling. For all the grief Fox gets about being right wing they have never had any of their host call young ladies nappy headed hos. Now if Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle would say host meet the press and discuss national news and politics and then turn around and new off the beat jokes then I would have a huge issue with that. FORUM always matter.

To be fair, Mr Earl has contributed lots of insight to this thread. Just as you are accussing Earl of twisting or misinterpreting others comments, I've seen plenty of people on here attack Earl for one- line they disagree with while totally ignoring the paragragh before it that may have had some valid points. I think when people see the name Mr. Earl, they already have their minds made up that they are gonna disagree and search and find the one line or word to assassinate. That also goes for a few other posters aswell.

BTW, Earl isn;t the only one who (as you say) demeans other posters as a way to pull themselves up. -

bigbeast - thank you for the kind words

I may have opinions that stray from the norm but I never said I was perfect.

I must've pissed Martin off somewhere along the line and he has never let it go. For whatever reason, whatever I write, no matter the content, Martin fights it with the frenzy of a televangelist on crack.

Hell, if people held on to personal grudges like that, this place would be empty in about a week.

Martin - perhaps if you would explain exactly what the different "poster-to-poster" criteria were, then everyone would understand the ground rules that you have set in your mind.

It's news to me Martin

who ever said this place was being graded for content, critique or censorship from poster to poster?

(are we being graded on a curve?)

If either of those are the case, then you have some 'splainin' do do on why you don't call out anyone else but yours truly

supwidat?

Have people seen how remorseful he is? Does anyone have any doubt that he didn't mean to be hurtful?

Bonn - if Son of Sam was remorseful it don't mean his azz gets to pass Go and Collect $200.

Ghandi - sarcasm or not, do you think Imus' remorse equals what all of those girls (Black AND White) will always be forced carry with them?

I wonder what the depth of the scars have been inflicted on the White players on the team as a result of their teammates being insulted?

True Story ("I Wanna Take You Higher" - Sly Stone)

... my 12 year old daughter's two closest running buddies happen to be White. They do everything together from playing basketball, swim, hang out... blah, blah...

one of the most popular (who happened to be White) boys in school, who they ALL admired and looked up to, caught them all off-guard...

one day, he derisively referred to her two best buddies as "wiggers" (you do the math)

to their credit, the same day after school both of her friends cornered the boy and got in his face about it.

no blows were exchanged, but he was left crying in the street.

Just like good teammates, friends stand up for friends, even when it is not the popular thing to do... but I wonder how these young she-roes were scarred (in front of common schoolmates) and how they will deal from here on...

how's that Martin?

OK, Ill go real slow for you.

I told a story of a coworker who said something stupid that her daddy always said. She did not think it was a bad thing. It was learned behavior. If I said racial statements in my house as my kids were young they would too think it was ok to say such things until they got in trouble at school or hit in the mouth. Get it? So out of ignorance or learned behavior racism is promoted.

Now say this child who hears these things at home listens rap music and watches rap videos. Not all rapper portray women as hoes and bitches, but there a lot. Now he thinks, Hmmmm, this is pretty common verbage. Get it?

YOur little story about your daughters friends getting called "wigger". The little boy was left crying. Why? He was educated and learned that his comment was hurtful. Lesson: he now knows this is not acceptable comments and is hurtful. Ignorance cured! This was your story, not mine.

Now either reread my comments or take it from me that being very much out of context in your comments.

I also think that Imus's response is fair. Before you go off on that I say that because up until now NOBODY HAS JUMPED ON HIS ASS ABOUT THE 100 STUPID THINGS HE HAS SAID BEFORE! AND IF THE BLACK COMMUNITY ALLOWS MANY IN THERE OWN COMMUNITY TO GET AWAY WITH IT THEN IT BECOMES COMMON LANGUAGE REGARDLESS OF HOW HURTFUL IT IS. IS IT ONLY UNACCEPTABLE WHEN A WHITE GUY SAYS IT?

Oprah tried to get the black community to clean up its language and rappers were jumping all over her and nobody stood by her. where was The Rev Al? Jesse? Not good enough for Al's ratings on HIS show? They called Oprah out cuz she does not have "rappers" on her show and should because she is black.

So my point about ignorance is that if certain strains of society think its ok, and you grow up with it, until other noted or corrected, then its tolerated! Thats not my rule or feeling about it, its an observation.

As far as the Klan and any comparisons, the Klan is a hate group that is commited. But if your daddy was in the klan, and his daddy was in the Klan, and you digetsted all the proganda as a child and had no black people in your life, then that form of ignorance would be the norm for you. You would spout out all kinds of racist things and not know you were hurtful.

Get it. Nalod is not a racist. Mister Just likes to jump to conclusions and get excited.

What cracks me up is all of a sudden after years of making idiot racist remarks all of a sudden Imus is now important! He is on MSNBC cuz nobody watches it.

Now that its an issue no one can condone his remark and be left legit, so its pile on Imus time. No gray area here for the media to punce on.

Nalods take (and I'll go slow again): THis should have not been tolerated a long time ago. Nobody black or white should be calling women "B!tches" and think its not damaging.

Question, if Imus said the Rutgers girls looked like plain "Street hookers" would that have been racist? Or Sexist? Would it have been aceptable? Lets face it, Street hookers black, white, asian, hispanic have a stereotype of being pretty nasty looking. I think it would have been insulting to the Rutgers girls but not racist. Im not saying that is cool by anymeans, but the fact that Imus used some words poplular with black commedians and Rap artists as a white man then it becomes a racist statement. I think it time we stop insulting as an acceptable course of everyday language.

If we stop listening to insults as entertainment, then can all hear whats good in this world.
