Hey...Lee did actually get rid of the hitch in his free throw shooting motion. Cool.

I've been watching the 2nd quarter here on the replay and I don't quite see a complete Ariza comparison to Balkman. One of the major differences I can see is that Balkman seems FAR more comfortable going to the hoop than Ariza. Trevor looked very awkward/uncomfortable whenever he went to the hole hoping to draw a foul more than score.

Will Balkman be an impact player this year? Not so sure, but he seems to be hustling out there, and as someone else says, handles the rock much better than Trevor did.

Frye looks much stronger and I liked that baby hook shot in the post. If he can use that effectively he is on his way to being a star. I see he also has a tatoo now on the left shoulder.

Haven't seen Lee do much yet, so much of the praise must come from his play from, at least, this point on in the game.

I do think last year's rookies seem older and more confident, and that makes me feel good about their future with us.

"Work on your balance underneath the rim" - Mark Aguire

on Frye...so far I see improvement.

Now I see Lee being a force on the boards...

Frye looks very comfortable with his back to basket. Nate with a flashy finish off a steal...

I will tell you who reminds me of rodman---david Lee--david lee continues to show he is a superior rebounder who looks like he has worked hard to advance his ofensive skill sets. If it were my decision, I think that Id be playing David Lee 35 minutes for the Knicks BIg league team. David Lee is the kind of player you win with

Didn't you want Chris Taft?

I wanted Chris Taft too. I think Taft is going to be a pretty good NBA player in the next few years, he has a ton of skills, just needs to have his attitude catch up to his skills and you will see a pretty damn good player.

Fair enough. I drink Kool aid and want to give IT every benefit of the doubt, especially with regard to his drafting ability. On the other hand, often with prospects, I think a large portion of a player's success is timing and opportunity. If you say that Taft needs more time to mature and then more opportunity to perform, I accept that. My only purpose was to expose that the players we want don't always pan out how we expect and the guys we haven't much heard of can sometimes thrive. Only way to judge is after the fact.

I fully agree with you Ewing, its all a crapshoot. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of Lee coming out of college, but his athleticism has been his biggest asset and so far he's thriving in the NBA and as of now has been a much better selection then Taft. In a few years, I think that will change but the beauty of it all is that you never know, maybe it won't.

There is also a ton to say for positive feedback loops. In basketball, like everything else, if you suck for a long time it gets a lot harder to become better... no matter how much potential you might have had. Timing and opportunity are critical, but are also in very short supply. I'd rather put my money on Frye and Lee, who are learning to be big contributors now, than on Bynum and Taft who need to mature or have a total behavior replacement operation.

Balkman has a much higher basketball IQ than Trevor. He saw a few things out there and hit passes that Trevor couldn't have come up with.

Balkman is better than Trevor IMO, but I do see the similarities in the 2. I wouldn't start judging anyone in summer league play. The competition is very inconsistent.

I agree. I often wonder what some guys actually look for when they watch a player. Balkman CLEARLY has a better understanding of the game than Ariza. He was covering so much ground out there and being disruptive. With guys like him you can't just look at the stats. He's just gettting started and all some of you guys can do is pick at his game. Well he DID show that he has an effect when he plays and that's important. He did a little of everything and didn't try to do too much. HE'S A ROLE PLAYER for goodness sakes!!!
