The Dwightmare continues.............

Via Stephan A.

In a lengthy discussion with Ryan Ruocco on ESPN Radio, Stephen A. Smith said Thursday that Dwight Howard still believes he will wind up in Brooklyn, despite the impediments, and that while he might be "delusional," it is not impossible. Smith added, the Nets would have to "capitulate" and the Lakers would have to be "convinced" Howard is going to leave before any deal can even be discussed.

Among the other points made by Smith in discussing Howard's current situation last March's trade deadline debacle:

--Howard told Rudy Gay that he "messed up" by getting traded to Toronto, that he "should have waited and ended up with me in Brooklyn." (One problem with that, however: Smith said Howard told that to Gay when the Lakers played the Raptors in Toronto recently. The Lakers haven't visited Toronto since the Gay trade...although a few days before the trade, the Lakers and Howard visited Memphis.)

--Dan Fegan, Howard's agent was unaware the center had opted to stay with the Magic the night before last season's trade deadline, that Howard "did that behind Dan Fegan's back." Smith said, "if Dan Fegan had his way, he would have been in Brooklyn last year." Ruocco, the YES broadcaster, said he knew that.

--The Magic did a "phenomenal job" of getting Howard's family, particularly his father, behind them. "He wanted his son to remain in Orlando," Smith said

Here's a transcript of the conversation between Smith and Ruocco...

SAS: "I had a reliable source tell me this...Dwight Howard will categorically deny it, but i trust my source...when they were playing Toronto recently, he sat there on the court and told Rudy Gay, 'You messed up bad man. You should have waited and ended up with me in Brooklyn next year. That's what he told him.

"Now, here's the problem. He doesn't determine that. He can't force his way to Brooklyn, can't pull that off. You gotta remember, the way the rules are stipulated now, you understand, the reality of the situation is that with the Nets, he had his chance. Now, if they want to let go of Brook Lopez, and they're able to unload Kris Humphries, you know,
things of that nature, something could happen. But the Nets have to be willing to capitulate and the Lakers have to be convinced he's definitely going to leave. They've got less than a week. You know trading deadline is rapidly approaching. It's February 21. It's a problem!

"But I'm just telling you...

RR: "He's still saying that? He's still thinks he's going to Brooklyn?"

SAS: "He still believes it."

RR: "Is he delusional or does he...is someone telling him that..."

SAS: "Yes, he does. It's not that it's impossible. It's that he doesn't have the right to dictate anything. Now, he's got an exceptional agent in Dan Fegan, that can make some maneuvers but if Dan Fegan had his way, he would have been in Brooklyn last year. You got to remember when he opted in, to stay in Orlando, he did that behind Dan Fegan's back."

RR: "Dan was not happy about that, I would imagine."

SAS: "Now, Otis Smith, the former general manager for the Orlando Magic ... Understand that Otis Smith didn't like back-door Dwight Howard or anything. When Dwight Howard came to him after they lost to San Antonio that Tuesday night, Otis Smith said go ahead and think about it. Don't make a rash decision. He didn't back door him. He wasn't sleazy or anything like that. Dwight Howard came, spoke to people and obviously, pressure from the family because the dad ... the Orlando Magic organization did a phenomenal job of ingratiating itself with the Dwight Howard family. The father did not want him to leave, did not want him to leave. I'm telling you, I know what I'm saying. I met the father, I talked to the father. Father don't rate particularly fond of me. You understand because I looked him in the face told him where I stood on the matter ... He wanted his son to remain in Orlando.

"So my point is that when Dwight Howard opted in, he did it behind Fegan's back. Fegan had nothing to do with that."

RR: "Oh yeah, yeah, I know."

SAS: "So, if you could do it behind your agent's back once, you're very unpredictable...."Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco: 2/14 (Audio @35:00) - ESPN Radio

Find it hard to believe, for the smple fact that as the Nets are over the cap they can't do sign and trades under the new cba. basically unless the Lakers trade Dwight before next weeks deadline, Dwight can't be a Net- it's impossible. So either Stephen A's source is lying, or Dwight is really, really delusional. Probably both- I don't think Dwight realizes Deron doesn't like him anymnore after last seasons antics.

Can they do a sign and trade over the cap with a player(s) of equal value. For example if the money is the same, BroPez/Brooks for Dwight? Thats cap neutral isn't it?

Im not saying Nets should do it or not, just if it is possible?

Starting next season a team over the apron ($4 million above the tax line) can’t receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction.

I don't think I've ever seen a trade involving a superstar that went bad for THREE teams. Only team that gained anything from that trade was Denver and they weren't the ones to get the superstar.

So what do people think of the possible Bargs and John Lucas III for Boozer and Nate trade? Aparantly its up to Toronto to agree whenever they're ready. Does either team actually get better? Looks like the Bulls are getting ready to tank.

Whats funny is Booze don't give you much defense and with Barg's you get more offense from the outside. WIth Taj Gibson to take those minutes I think Bulls get better. Im assuming Noah is playing of course. toronto does not have a "noah".

This?

Noah
Gibson
Bargs
Deng
Rose

Thats kind of scarey. More than likely Bargs comes off the bench but crunch time is that your line up?

Wow. I actually like that trade for both team.

Chicago will get a very good stretch 4 to partner with Noah. They weaken their PG so I am assuming they are looking for another move.

Toronto is loading up. djsunyc must be giddy with anticipation. Well, maybe not since Bargs is his boy. BUT... pairing Boozer with Gay in the frontline along with Amir Johnson and Derozan and Lowry makes a pretty good starting five. Then you have little Nate, Landry, Pietrus and Kleiza on the bench. They are making a pretty good team up north.

Hmm, I'm not convinced- Bargs has been terrible for the last season or two, and I think Taj is over rated. I kind of feel sorry for the Bulls players- Noah, Rose and Deng are hard working, passionate players but they're stuck playing for a cheap, cheap owner.

As for the Raptors, it really depends on what Boozer shows up- he once in a while has a good season, followed by a couple of stinkers. Their GM reminds me of IT...

Our division is much tougher as the season goes on.

East in general improving. Wiz getting better and Toronto no door mat! Celts resurgent and BKN is not going away so fast.

I'm not so sure if that's the case playoff wise. I think the bulls are about to decline- Rose might sit out the year, Noah has plantar fasciitis and Deng has been gassed lately. Wiz are better but they're not likely to make the playoffs. Celtics could get blown up in a few days, and the Nets are starting to buckle. Only teams on the rise are the Heat and the Pacers, maybe the Raptors. the rest of the east is a mess.

Chicago gets Rose back
Indy gets Granger back
Philly gets Bynum back

Wizards and Raptors are no longer roll overs
Nyets Might make a deal
And Boston is Boston

Yea Knicks gonna have to kick it into gear

They will make the playoffs but could realistically drop to the 5-8th seed with the way they are playing

In an article on Sheridan's site he has a quote from Howard saying that he is going to wait until the offseason to decide to go where he wants to go.
