I think hiring outside of the NBA (Hurley or any college coach) is going to be risky. I think there may be too big a learning curve in one season to push the Knicks to the finals and beyond in one season while they’re fine tuning the NBA player/teams/rules in detail. I think that puts the team on a 2 year plan.

If it is a college coach, I’m guessing they will make use of the bench. Trying out different lineups like most coaches do in the regular season. Which would probably mean a lower seed. Maybe a play-in appearance. Maybe not. By the time the playoffs come around, if the FO hired the right college coach. The Knicks should be deeper, with a lot fewer minutes played by the starters. The hopefully improved bench chipping in. With one or more starters going to the bench.

Overall a more balanced squad, less worn down, and more prepared to make adjustments. Having a former head coach on the bench wouldn’t be a bad idea. Youthful enthusiasm might just be what the team needs.

Maybe he's the guy I just don't know anything about him. I mean Mike Miller was a nice assistant but I'm not hiring him for this squad.

Chris Paul would be very exciting for me and not because I'm a huge fan --- just think he's one of the smartest/toughest players ever.

I don’t see how it could be a college coach without NBA experience, just too much risk for a FO that’ll have near championship or bust weight on the coaches shoulders.

Perhaps I understate the significance of the changeover from college to NBA coaching. I see guys like Brad Stevens transition near seamlessly and I think the constitution of the coach is supremely relevant. You could tell me Hurley is too hotheaded and intense. Or that his Kyrie like superstition is too odd. But he is pedigree coach. Bobby Hurley’s kid. A proven winner with 2 DI championships? Lifelong Knick fan from Jersey City? He might kill KAT for being aloof, but no one is going to doubt what their role is.

Bobby's brother. They played college ball at around the same time.

I think dad is Bobby Hurley Senior but I may be wrong on that.

If he still has it, I’d hire Miller. We were on track to make the playoffs with Marcus Morris as our best player when he got traded, and the pandemic hit. Got them to move the ball, play D.

Great - you hire Mike Miller. I'll wait and see who Leon hires and hope it's not Mike.

First half os the seson, for a month, we were racking up 30 plus assists per. There was a stretch where the ball was moving, the players were cutting, some were saying that Kat had some Joker like passing skills (no to that level but you get the point)....then all of a sudden, it stopped. The offense got super stagnant and we defualted to iso-ball and your turn my turn. Johnny Bryant, your the next constestant to stalk the sidelines of MSG....come on down!!!

This has to be one of the reasons behind it. The change in the offensive approach was so sudden and weird, it spoke about a coach who had no idea what to do with the team. If at least he had been able to switch that on against Indiana, it would’ve been an intriguing development but still weird as the team would seem without a clear identity. But even when it made most sense to channel that offensive direction, he couldn’t. It was too much of a mess even while winning a lot.
