He played off ball alot at the 2 last night. Thibs clearly views him as a SG and not even a combo guard. Wherever at least he’s playing. Hopefully eventually Thibs eventually decides to let him run point more

In the Sac game he brought ball up and initiated some of the offense.

More coaches should just start or play rookies more, their teams might be legitimately in the playoff picture.

Look, there are a lot of reasons to question Thibs' competence this season. Not giving Duece starter, or even regular rotation, minutes isn't one of them. Especially with the push to give IQ experience at the point. But not playing him at all, even in garbage time was questionable. We have two injury prone point guards and Tom had to know the time would lokely come when Duece would be called on to contribute. Don't need to see a gassed Burks masquerade as a PG when the game is lost. He doesn't need the experience.

It's a fair statement but then you are quibbling over playing a guy garbage minutes. Are players getting that much in those last 2-5 minutes when the game is already out of hand that we care that much?

Maybe some do but I don't think anyone really cares.

points per game is really not a barometer for me when it comes to a player being in the rotation. I look at what contributions he gives to help the team win a basketball game. Hi defensive tenacity and skills is what I am ecstatic about. His 3 point shooting is very good and he can drive to the basket. Thibs should have been playing him at PG a long time ago.

I love McBride... I think he *CAN* end up being very good for us. This year his offense made Elfrid Payton look like Gary Payton (the DAD). Its just so silly to lay "not playing or developing McBride" on the coach when McBride sucked, the FO handed him Kemba/Rose to start the season and its clear they are also committed to IQ

This reminds of a story Doc Rivers I believe said. After his games his dad use to ask him not how many points he scored or assists he got. But how many fouls did he used. With that being said his dad gaged if he played defense by the amount of fouls he used. Also I believe if you watched the games he fouled to stop a fast break on turnovers which was a good play.

I think every rep counts, even if it just allows the player to gradually adjust to the speed of a live game. Is it the biggest sin in the world? No. But a firmly believe these little things make a difference over the course of a season.

I'm trying to figure out which teams do this on a regular basis... play their second round picks as much as they can in garbage minutes. I guess there is a difference between GS or PHO or MIL who are all in on playoffs so giving lottery picks no less second round picks garbage minutes is probably not a thing. Or should it be?

Maybe you can help me out with those grey area playoff teams versus straight tank teams and those that do follow your prescription.

We've seen it in GSW with Jordan Poole, who was trash three years ago, but steadily improved. Not even suggesting the Knicks even give McBride as many minutes as Poole got. But you can't just coach for the moment, or the current game. Throw the kid in there. If he sucks, it's a teachable moment in game that doesn't matter, which is the majority of games they've played this season. I like Rose, and I had high hopes for Kemba. But we all knew there was a good chance they wouldn't make it through the season. In a perfect world, the FO goes out and follows up with solid emergency plan. Thibs, thankfully, doesn't have final say in front office matters, but he does have control of the roster they've given him. He has to develop with this roster. He has to give the kids minutes when he can find them. That's part of coaching.

There is context though, right? 3 years ago GSW were trash and had lots of injuries. Literally last place finish and were not competing for playoffs. Curry out, Klay out, they had lots of minutes to give guys.

Knicks are currently deep at wing players.

What's the balance between trying to go for a playoff spot and playing your 14th guy and also playing Grimes, IQ, RJ, etc who are all more wing shooters? And quite frankly, right now, McBride is playing the wing shooter spot, just like IQ in his first year.

This exactly. People are too focused on stats and missing the clear impact he has on winning. I understand since many people stopped watching the games.
