disagree, thought toney looked much better tonight. toney had a really good game... in non garbage time which has to count for more.
If you get to suck for as long as Toney has with unrestricted PT dictated by injury to others every one is likely to have one good game here or there. To his credit he looked to pass today, but he can't run the offense. Lin has shown he can penetrate and pass as well as slow it down at times against third string players. But unless he gets minutes as part of the second unit in non garbage time we won't know how he does running the offense in real NBA situations. Our core need is two regular PGs in the rotation. BD makes on when he is back. Lin/Bibby combination should make the second but Lin needs PT to get there.
"But unless he gets minutes as part of the second unit in non garbage time we won't know how he does running the offense in real NBA situations."Its not "We", its up to the coaches to determine this. We know he can play at the Dleague level, and 3rd string mop up duty but we don't know any more. He came with the benefit of no camp, and I think a sore knee.
He has Bibby ahead of him. I know its better to develop players but we talking the panic ridden knicks.
Lin could be cut. Should be Balky. Sometimes its out of respect we cut a player who may want another opportunity rather than Dleagued.
All true. I am not about to decide that Lin is better and then speculate that MDA hates rookies or Asians or point guards or whatever. I am more than happy to let the coach make coaching decisions. As you said we don't know what happens in practice and I don't participate in threads that try to recreate practice sessions based on twitter feeds in order to fit the theory that MDA doesn't do this or that. That **** is just plain dumb.
But I was making an assessment of what I didd see from Lin and comparing it to what I have seen from TD over the years. Lin can drive, pass in traffic and HTOM. TD can't. Whether Lins game will ever translate or not I can't say. My argument is that while we don't have a PG he may at least see some minutes. I won't be trying to rake
over the coals if he doesn't.
WE were watching TD close yesterday and that floater is very effective. He is not strong finisher like Shump is given his height. I doubt with his shoulder we want him attacking the rim and getting knocked around. I liked TD was in control and he controlled the tempo at times.
But lets be real, it was against Kemba or Corey Higgins!
Lin had some nice moves and play but Bobcats had put up the white flag already and the game was over.
I would love to see him step in and supplant Bibby and he become a long term asset as much as anyone.
What has be understood is when you bring in a guy like Bibby its not like the knicks were his only choice. At the vets min he wants to be in a situation he can play. Last year he gave up 6 mil in salary to play in Miami and Miami gave him every chance and he did ok but was benched in the playoffs when the rotation goes short.
Teams need to maintain a reputation otherwise vet players won't come. Vet players are treated with respect.
On paper, cut Bibby and give Lin the slot IF MDA is cool with it but thats not how it works. If Lin is showing potential and beating Bibby in practice then and its evident Bibbys a liabilty then MDA to keep his lockeroom in tact has to go with his best players, and Bibby should be professional about it. I would hope he is beyond a "Larry Hughes" type attitude.
