It definitely seems like all the people i'd ignore are the ones speaking out against the ignore button. I've got a long list of folks i'd like to have removed from the face of discussion. There needs to be room for at least 10 on the ignore list. And not just because I disagree with them, but because they post like they're 10 years old all the time.

Plus I don't know how many boards have such a distinct divide between one group and another, like this one does. If I came on here and people with a different viewpoints other than my own were filtering me, it would be like talking to myself, since I'd only be talking to people who agreed with me, which is basically as good as talking to yourself. I can talk to myself about the Knicks all day if I wanted and I would agree with everything I said. Sure, I'd be a psycho for doing that, but then what would be the point of coming onto the forum if I'm going to just talk to people that have the same viewpoint as me?
Its not the divide I'm trying to filter out man, its the constant obnoxious posting style that I want to filter out. I respect the different opinions. martin, Marv, djsu, BlueSeats, you, evil, Andrew etc all disagree with me. You guys don't like the direction of the team but you guys are some of my favorite posters. I don't get caught up in that lover/hater thing. Eny, hardcore, oohah, Rembee, tkf, Killa, friefly all make up the lover side and I bet no one filters them out either cause they know what they are talking about. Briggs annoys me sometimes but he knows what he is talking about. I will never ignore his posts cause it would be my loss.

What I want to filter out is the ridiculous posts from a handful people. I crave those intense debates I had with people back in the day. Page after page of Eisley dribbles too much and Camby needs more muscle threads were fun. What happens now is I want to discuss Eddy's lack of defense with BlueSeats but I get distracted by 4 or 5 posters because they directly respond to me and call me a nuthugger etc. I can ignore it once or twice and maybe even 10 times but it just gets really annoying. So yea, I will never censor the debate. I dont want to censor the difference of opinions.

Exactly. Maybe we should have been clear that we don't want to ignore people with different opinions.

I understand that part of your reasoning, which is fine. It makes total sense. I'm just worried about the people that won't be as rational as you would be. Kam(sorry for using you as an example Kam but your post is the perfect example) has already evidenced what I'm talking about, by saying that the function would have to allow atleast 10 spots for people to use. That is absolutely way to extreme and my worry is that he wouldn't be the only person that does it.

I don't care if people censor me, honestly, its their loss, but what I do care about is the continuity of this forum because I love talking Knicks on this forum but if someone like Kam(again Kam, sorry for using you as an example) ignores 10 people then what is this forum going to look like when theres probably only 75-100 who post here regularly. It would cause chaos with people not knowing whether someone is responding to them becuase they won't know if their censored by someone. I can just see it getting quite messy.

I dunno man.

It looks like the major concern here is people not keeping up with the conversation. What do you say we try this out for a month or two? From my past experience, this feature works out. A lot of message boards allow it and I have seen it work. It actually cuts down the work martin and andrew have to do cause now we can literally "ban or unban" people we find obnoxious.

If we will have Ignore Button I promise NOT to use it on anybody.
I am enjoying poster who agree with me but I am enjoying posters who are not even more.
I like when papa calling me "racist hater" because it is hilarious.
I like when Nix was mad at me because it f...ng cool.
And these jokes Iseles using to piss everybody off is just great.
Why anybody who is coming on line to have fun will use Ignore button? Only retards...

Personally, I don't really care if you put in an ignore button or not. But, I can say from my experience on other sports forums that the ignore button worked quite well. In fact, for people who say that it interrupts conversations, I found it to be just the opposite. People didn't have to worry about hijacked threads and there was a real directed conversation.

It's true that occasionally someone would respond to a poster I had on ignore so I didn't understand what he (or she) was talking about. But most of the time it was some sort of baby exchange and I wasn't interested anyway. If it was on topic, I'd turn off the ignore button and see what the person had to say. If they started posting a bunch of good material, I'd take em off ignore.

Hey I'm not against trying it, but I just wanted to air my concerns. Obviously, I'm only 1 person in a large forum.

Can we realistically break down the problem.

We've got people wanting an ignore feature for one, maybe two posters?
Exactly. For me its only 1.

I demand to know who. That goes for everyone else as well.

Let's get this out in the open, it's the only way to solve the "problem".
All I want to do filter out posts for me. I have seen this implemented everywhere. This is not a new concept but I cannot believe the resistance to it. It almost seems like people are afraid their posts wont be read.

This is exactly my problem. My posts must be read.
I just hope that people will like me

Silverfuel I'm with NYK4eva on this one. I've been on one board with an "ignore" button and my experience was not as clean as yours. It started out fine, but after a while there were so many people ignoring each other that each post had 7 or 8 different conversations. It as very annoying. I personally have only 1 or 2 people that annoy me. When I see their names I know it will be nonsense. After a while I don't read what they have to say because it's the same thing over and over again. Now that I stopped reading their posts they don't bother me anymore. Also when I stopped responding to them, they stopped responding to my posts. It's pretty simple. Noone gets hurt.

As for Kam: I will personally give him an Ignore Bippity button.
I just hope that people will like me

It would be my choice who to ignore. What is extreme about that? I want 10 spots because my first five are already locked in, and in my experience trolls who are ignored come back with new handles.
