I'd prefer Jay over Dan to be honest. But I have no idea who Leon is eyeing. This FO is good at keeping things close to the best. Could be Rick Brunson.

Kidd has developed nicely since his miscues in BKN and Milwaukee. Perhaps time with Lakers humbled him a bit.
Maybe the template that PhilJax should have done when he hired Fish before he was ready. The ego is a bitch.

In the end Thibs did a fine job prior to this year and the extension was proper.
But its a players league and if we don't extend Bridges this summer we in a big bind.
If Bridges conveyed this then its was a big issue for Thibs.

The thing that worries me about Jay is if his heart is in it. Everything seems to suggest he doesn’t want to coach again. So if he comes is it for the money and he’s not fully invested. Versus an active coach who clearly is all in.

I don’t see how it could be a college coach without NBA experience, just too much risk for a FO that’ll have near championship or bust weight on the coaches shoulders.

That was Lenny Wiklens, Larry Brown adn Phil Jax hires. Jay Wright is only mentioned given the Nova connection.
Leon got this.

True. You can say the same thing about Danny after the UConn extension. He has his own fiefdom and he may not want to give that up for the NBA lifestyle.

I don’t know the up and comers top assistants list but Leon and the Knicks players all would have familiarity with Bryant. I’d guess that would be a very fast open or shut case. I’d be surprised if he weren’t in the top 3 choices or crossed off immediately.

Perhaps I understate the significance of the changeover from college to NBA coaching. I see guys like Brad Stevens transition near seamlessly and I think the constitution of the coach is supremely relevant. You could tell me Hurley is too hotheaded and intense. Or that his Kyrie like superstition is too odd. But he is pedigree coach. Bobby Hurley’s kid. A proven winner with 2 DI championships? Lifelong Knick fan from Jersey City? He might kill KAT for being aloof, but no one is going to doubt what their role is.

Johnnie is still a fave of mine that I would be thrilled with. I just am talking myself into Hurley.

Bobby's brother. They played college ball at around the same time.

How do yall see how amazing the offense was before that and still want to keep him as a coach is beyond me. If people forgot please go back and watch those games.

This! but the Thibs apologist don’t want to talk about that.

Seriously, the amount of credit this man is receiving is astonishing. The man has been running the same offense since day 1!. It was all ISO RANDLE before it became ISO BRUNSON…and I seem to recall Knick fans HATING an iso heavy offense when Melo was doing it.
The organization and Thibs ran Randle to the ground and when it was evident that he couldn’t get us any further, they traded him. Same thing is happening to Thibs now. Appreciate the man for getting the team to “play hard” but now the Knicks need a real coach and game manager.

Btw…best Knicks coach since JVG was Mike Woodson. Thibs is not on his level.

Brad Steven’s took over a lottery bound team that knew there would be a long ramp up for a young coach.

Knicks have expectations. I’d say near zero chance.

Suns currently have Bryant as one of their two finalists.

I think hiring outside of the NBA (Hurley or any college coach) is going to be risky. I think there may be too big a learning curve in one season to push the Knicks to the finals and beyond in one season while they’re fine tuning the NBA player/teams/rules in detail. I think that puts the team on a 2 year plan.

I have no problem with Wright or Hurley --- biggest concern is would Wright really want the hassle. I think if Leon had his way it would be Wright.

But he's younger and already/still in the game. Wright in effect could come out and if things go south crap on his legacy where Hurley would likely return to college and win again.
