As global coronavirus cases neared 30 million on Tuesday, a senior health official in China said she expected a vaccine to be publicly available as early as November this year.

According to the Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 tracker, which relies on official government data, there are 29,190,588 confirmed infections worldwide. Deaths stand at 927,245 and are expected to pass 1 million by October.

Both the death toll and global infections total are believed to be higher, due to differing testing rates and definitions, delays in reporting and suspected underreporting by some countries.

Meanwhile Wu Guizhen, head of biosafety at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said she expected Chinese vaccines for Covid-19 would soon be available to the public as soon as November or December.

Speaking to state broadcaster CCTV, Wu said: “It will be very soon. The progress is currently very smooth.”

China, the world’s largest producer of vaccines, accounts for nine of the 30 vaccines currently undergoing human trials. Last week, the University of Hong Kong, working with mainland Chinese researchers, said a nasal spray vaccine was entering clinical trials.

If China develops the first successful vaccine and we don't get access to it because of Trumps attempts to deflect blame and creat a new enemy to rally people against...

We all should have just put aside whatever beef we had internationally, and worked together to beat this thing. Now, since essentially it turned into everyone for themselves, we're going to get in a very messy situation when/if vaccines start gaining approval, which will ultimately cost a lot of lives and lead to a lo of power games

Not sure what you mean by " first successful vaccine" but essential workers in Russia have been receiving it for over a month. Hush hush tho, it's unsafe, communist, socialists, dangerous for the whole planet. Made from Putin's bellybutton lint.

I do believe they produced a vaccine. I don’t trust what else they put in it nor do I have any faith at all in the effectiveness but they have their own version of one that’s 100% unsafe.

I will tell you what. Let's do this. Let's put my belief s aside for a sec as they really are not relevant to whether or not the vaccine is there.

This vaccine is kinda important, maybe more important than flying to the moon. I can totally see the logic and reason for boasting such fake news if they are. But do you really expect anything less than" ohh I dunno those Russians, anything with alcohol is a vaccine to them, hehe" from the American media? Last time I checked Europe was throwing another set of sanctions at Russia as well. So European media would more likely than not discredit this vaccine too. Unsafe? Says who? Have those people the data to support such claims?

At least we can agree that Russia does have a vaccine. Yes yes , of course it's 99%vodka and 1% Putin's pheromones, very funny.

Speaking of voting, I still don't know who to vote for. Or more precisely, who to vote against. I still don't want Trump nor Biden. It's Trump/Hillary all over again. I am just disenchanted at the whole process. (go Bernie)

No it isn't. The only reason you don't know who to vote for is that you are very uninformed. Same as last time.

Again, my beliefs are my beliefs, and those beliefs have nothing to do with nurses and doctors jumping out if windows. I actually happen to have a practicing doctor as a neighbor and a friend.

Is the vaccine safe? Well, why don't we ask some people about their beliefs and make a conclusion based on rhetoric and emotion, not fact.

And have been suspiciously quiet since the initial announcement. You wouldn't hear the end of it if I was a country and became the first to release an effective vaccine. Sorry about the Vodka jokes. I blame those Smirnoff ads for being so effective.

Jokes aside there is a vaccine

I've asked you this before.... you really believe that? That Russia produced a vaccine?

Yeah.....I mean't more recent data.

Since then, the phase 1/2 results have been published in The Lancet. The vaccine induced a strong immune response in all 76 participants. Presumably these results were available to the Russian Ministry of Health. For regulators such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency, however, data on immune response alone would not generally be an adequate basis for approving a vaccine. “Immune response might not be directly proportional to the degree of protection—you can only find this out in large-scale trials”, explains Peter Openshaw, professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College London (London, UK).

I did see this article, but the only thing it tells me is that more studies should've been done before it was released out to the wild. And I'm not just singling out Sputnik. All vaccination candidates need some form of wide spread testing.

https://www.ibtimes.sg/sputnik-v-not-safe-russian-health-minister-says-1-7-volunteers-report-side-effects-51637

Russian health minister Mikhail Murashko said that as of now, over 300 out of the announced 40,000 volunteers have been vaccinated with Sputnik V. He added that around 14 percent have complained about weakness, muscle pain for 24 hours, and an occasional increase in body temperature.

When Russia approved its potential Coronavirus vaccine, Sputnik V in August, several experts raised concerns about the effectiveness of the vaccine due to lack of evidence. But a recently published report in The Lancet claimed that patients involved in early trials of the COVID-19 vaccine developed antibodies with "no serious adverse events."

As reported, Murashko said that the symptoms after being injected with the Russian COVID-19 vaccine "level off" by the next day and the complications are "described in the instructions and are predictable." The participants of the trial are expected to receive another shot of the adenovirus-based viral vector vaccine within 21 days of the first.

Russia's Sputnik V has long way to complete a large-scale clinical trial to prove its effectiveness. But the Russian government has approved the vaccine which made it the first vaccine to be cleared from human use anywhere in the world. Earlier in September, the final trial of the controversial vaccine started in Moscow. However, scientists and healthcare experts cautioned against the use of Sputnik V which has not passed full safety and efficacy checks.

Safety is always needed. I guess. Maybe always. When insulin was "invented" the scientist responsible for the invention took it straight into a children's hospital for diabetics. Back then it was a terminal disease and kids in late stages were left on hospital beds, some unconscious. He started administering it and the rapid results are well documented. One of the greatest stories from modern medicine.
So I see your point, and you are right. It's just that sometimes circumstances allow for a broader interpretation of safety.

It's not exactly controversial- you properly test a vaccine to a) check its safe, and b) check it actually works (and for how long and at what dose). You then release the results to be verified, and then if that all checks out, you can start to launch it. You don't just say "hey we invented this great vaccine without properly testing it- lets just roll with it!"

So you can understand why no one is taking this vaccine that seriously. It's nice that this thing, that we have limited info on, has produced an immune response. We have seen preliminary results from other vaccines that have done the same thing. But we have seen that might not be enough. The data on antibody responses is still all over the place.

Abstract
Background
Waning immunity occurs in patients who have recovered from COVID-19. However, it remains unclear whether true re-infection occurs.

Methods
Whole genome sequencing was performed directly on respiratory specimens collected during two episodes of COVID-19 in a patient. Comparative genome analysis was conducted to differentiate re-infection from persistent viral shedding. Laboratory results, including RT-PCR Ct values and serum SARS-CoV-2 IgG, were analyzed.

Results
The second episode of asymptomatic infection occurred 142 days after the first symptomatic episode in an apparently immunocompetent patient. During the second episode, there was serological evidence of elevated C-reactive protein and SARS-CoV-2 IgG seroconversion. Viral genomes from first and second episodes belong to different clades/lineages. Compared to viral genomes in GISAID, the first virus genome has a stop codon at position 64 of orf8 leading to a truncation of 58 amino acids, and was phylogenetically closely related to strains collected in March/April 2020, while the second virus genome was closely related to strains collected in July/August 2020. Another 23 nucleotide and 13 amino acid differences located in 9 different proteins, including positions of B and T cell epitopes, were found between viruses from the first and second episodes.

Conclusions
Epidemiological, clinical, serological and genomic analyses confirmed that the patient had re-infection instead of persistent viral shedding from first infection. Our results suggest SARS-CoV-2 may continue to circulate among the human populations despite herd immunity due to natural infection or vaccination. Further studies of patients with re-infection will shed light on protective correlates important for vaccine design.

Jokes aside there is a vaccine

I've asked you this before.... you really believe that? That Russia produced a vaccine?

Dude, from everything I read, they went through zero phases of testing. Of course I don’t trust it.

And have been suspiciously quiet since the initial announcement. You wouldn't hear the end of it if I was a country and became the first to release an effective vaccine. Sorry about the Vodka jokes. I blame those Smirnoff ads for being so effective.

I hear you, those ads are effective. Well, here is an article from The lancet( trustworthy source) it's literally the first article that comes up.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30402-1/fulltext

To summarize:

"Yo, it's Poppin! Your immune system will love this $hit! The virus stands no chance! "
" What about the phase 3 testing , yo? Why they didn't do tha testing?"
" Chill bro, you have any idea how long phase 3 takes to complete? That $hit takes months!! Ain't got no time for that!"

This is exactly what I was replying to in the first place. While the US "is not taking the vaccine seriously" that's actually the opposite of "everyone" . As a matter of fact the US is being defiant here while China and Russia have agreed to work together.

Here is another article. In this one we got Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil and a bunch of other countries buying this vaccine from Russia.

You can go ahead and volunteer as a guinea pig. I trust the Russia government slightly more than I trust the Chinese government. And by slightly, I mean like a centimeter. My honest opinion, Russia made a vaccine using the traditional method of dead genetic material and rushed it out. There have been enough studies out there to suggest that this method won't work. This is all conjecture because the Russian government has still been secretive with the information it has and the information it has released has been nebulous. Don't you think the country's top respiratory disease expert would be be one of the first to sing the praises of his country's crowning scientific achievement?

Russia's top respiratory doctor quits over 'gross violations' of medical ethics that rushed through Putin's coronavirus 'vaccine'

Dr Chuchalin named Prof Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology, and Prof Sergey Borisevich, a medical colonel and Russian army's top virologist.

The two men were the leading academics behind the new 'world-beating' vaccine.

Chuchalin allegedly asked them: 'Have you passed all the necessary paths approved by Russian Federation legislation and the international scientific community? Not!

'This job has not been done. Thus, one of the ethical principles of medicine has been grossly violated - to do no harm.'

He stressed: 'I am depressed by the position of some of our scientists who make irresponsible statements about ready-made vaccines.'
