![]() I didn't follow Monroe in college but draftnet compared him to a less athletic Lamar Odom. Thought that was pretty interesting.
I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18

A high quality PG. thats what me and BRIGGS agree on regarding Kanter. ..Kanter is a superior offensive talent compared to Monroe and its NOT EVEN CLOSE. dude has the post up game, mid range game, 3pt shot, can dribble left or right monroe was overhyped coming out of HS as the next Lamar Odom. dont let crack head odom fool you...odom was once a SOLID SOLID player. monroe isnt even close to odom...thats a horrible comparison. hes a low post scorer. his range is 8ft..thats it Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Monroe has been putting up solid numbers for the past 4 yrs in a row. Kanter does have more potential then Monroe with his ability to score on multiple spots on the court. But id rather get the guy who is a less talented scorer but way better ball mover. We have our stud scorer in Melo, we need to add ball movers and defenders. I don't love Monroe at max though. https://vote.nba.com/en Vote for your Knicks.

Those are similar strengths of Odom. I think even though they both played PF, Monroe's got more of a center's game whereas Odom was more of a SF type, but i see the comparison of their strengths. |

![]() odom also had a decent perimeter shot, above average defense, ball handling skills and could lead a break...he was WAYYYY more versatile than monroe. the only thing these two players have in common is that theyre leftys

![]() Monroe may not be a perfect big but he can post and pass at a very good level. He's the kind of low post big this team needs. He'll look much better in the Triangle which rewards his strengths. This is what happened with Schved. In this offense it hid his weaknesses and enhanced his strengths.

![]() I think Monroe will only work with Towns and that is if Towns is really a good shooter. A team like the Pelicans would be a nice place for him to play along side Davis as he work the low post and Davis works the high post and PnR game. They would have to let Asik go though to make it work I believe.

I think his versatility was his down fall. You have to specialize in something. I'm not sure I know what Monroe's speciality is. Thats why I would stay away from offering him the max. Max players have defined strengths who speciallize in something. But if Phil sees Odom in Monroe, maybe it's on the defensive side, since both of them have great latteral quickness for their size, which makes them great PnR defenders. Towns and Stein are also bigs with great latteral quickness. If we had two bigs with that type of defensive specialty, that would be a great move for Phil's rebuild. Thats what made the knicks bigs of the 90's so great. They were able to stay in front of quick guards. Bigs like Mason has great latteral movement which helped the guards whenever they had a blow by or PnR. Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland.
The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

To be fair we don't have a long record of Kanter showing up on the level that he's been playing for this stretch of games. I like Kanter and his versatility. I just think we need to also make it clear that Kanter is in a better situation for his game and likewise we don't know how much better Monroe would look in a role and offense that is tailor made for his strengths as a post player. The Detroit offense has him play away from the basket far too much. The Triangle is designed for more than one post player and thus Monroe would be in a much better situation for his skills. I would be fine with either Kanter or Monroe depending on who we draft. If it's OK4 then we need to go in another directions IMO. |

Monroe cant shoot very well past 10 feet and I don't think its wise to spend big long term money on a player based on a system. Any good player can pick up a style of play--I dont see that as a big deal. The big deal with Kanter is that he can play in and out(which works well with the triangle and more importantly Carmelo) with a "higher talent level--hes a great offensive rebounder which is important with all of the 3 pt shooting we have now. ![]() Briggs... Kanter is an RFA. Especially with the cap exploding I cant see any scenario (that doesnt involve using our pick in a S&T) that lands us Kanter. Monroe is an UFA. No caveats.
Monroe would be a nice piece. It comes down to fit and who we draft though. "winning is more fun... then fun is fun" -Thibs
