So frustrating. Yet Chicago and Indiana get buy without their best players
im not trying to rag on woodson, but thibadeoux is already a top coach in this league and vogel is proving to be a stud in the making. woodson is good, but he's not a top coach, he'll never leave his mark on a team like those 2 guys will.
we spent 4 games in a playoff series repeatedly trying (and failing) to force feed melo in the post. that was when we should have all started suspecting perhaps Woody isn't a master tactician...
You sound silly and uninformed.
who the hell are you?
I love when people resort to the "who are you" ad hominem attacks on message boards. LoL!

If the shoe fits...
My recollection of last years playoffs is all the pg's being injured, Amar'e having one hand and Chandler being flu ridden and lacking anything resembling an offensive game. Thus, my simple questions is, who exactly was Woodson supposed to run the offense through? Also, we were playing the Heat, you know the team that beat the Thunder 4 - 1 in the finals and also had arguably the best and quickest defense in the league... I am all for reasonable criticism of the Knicks but crying about iso Melo last year in the playoffs is simply silly.
I personally wasn't saying it was dumb to try to put the ball into Melo's hands.
Just that we were basically posting him up. The Celtics were denying him the ball. We spent massive amounts of time every possession trying to force the ball into him and never made an adjustment/
There were more creative ways to get the ball in his hands no?
Everyone in the building knew the ball was going to Melo and the Heat are a great defensive team. There was no manner to get the Melo the ball where he would not be swarmed. I also recall Melo getting the ball in the post and on the perimeter. The Knicks were pretty much screwed when all their pg's suffered injuries.
I think this year Woody has enough personnel to compete and the Knicks have beat the Heat twice. Going forward Amar'e should get better and Felton should be back. This team will only get better and last year's playoffs are largely irrelevant and are no indication of how this current team will perform or how good or bad of a coach Woody is.
- Not sure I agree there was no way to get Melo the ball where he wouldn't be swarmed. It's considerably easier to double down or deny the ball to Melo when he's stationary on the block just waiting for an entry pass.
Running screens for him off the ball to catch and shoot or catch the ball going in motion to the basket would have been better.
When we played the Pacers we had a pretty tough defense, a LOT more contact was allowed, the ENTIRE Garden knew Reggie Miller was going to get the ball and...he still got the ball with daylight to shoot. Obviously Melos game isn't the same as Reggies and coming off screens isn't his bread and butter but to try to feed Melo the EXACT same way game after game when it wasn't working confused and frustrated me and a ton of other knowledgeable fans on this board.
- Agree that there were a ton of factors that led to the sweep. I'm not saying that if someone else were coaching the results would have been any different but that entire series to me led to concern over whether Woody can make effective adjustments on offense game to game.
- Yes you can't simply take the fact that we lost to the eventual NBA champions and say Woody is a terrible coach. That would be crazy. You CAN still take a look at coaching moves that were or weren't made during that series and his previous stop in Atlanta to form a general impression of his coaching ability.
My impression thus far is that he is great at communicating with his players, demanding consistent defensive effort and demanding accountability from all of them Superstar down to 12th man.
As far as Xs and Os and strategy goes I'm a bit worried.
Are you filled with confidence? If so...what exactly have you seen to warrant it??
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
