Obama needs to put Dubya & Dick Cheney on the deactivated list immediately.

this is a day i thought i would not see until i was like 60 years old. man, i am delighted. he better pick great cabinet members, though. with all of these problems, he can become one of the best president in our history or one of the worse. no middle ground here. but i have faith he will be excellent as president. great day in history. can't believe we are witnessing history in front of our eyes. only around 50 years removed from the jim crow laws. amazing!

This is a truly momentous occasion for the US. It;s nice to finally see the best candidate win.


The only thing I am concerned about is the Democratss majority in all the legislative branches. There should always be debate and different sides in politics. It never works out for the best when one side has control over everything. While I respect President-Elect Obama and believe in his ability to lead the country, there will be times when he SHOULD be reined in, and thats where Congress and the Senate come in. Im pleased the Democrats didnt get the super-majority in the Senate, and I truly hope the President-Elect does what he has said and listens to both sides of the aisle. It would be a complete waste of the awesome display of democracy the US has just shown if it becomes too much like a Democratic Party dictatorship.

Enjoy the victory guys. Its the start of a new era!

though that is true that we need balance, it will change in two more years anyway. it always has. that is what happened when clinton became president. when some of the seats are up for election, believe me it will be mostly republican.

Great post and I agree with every word. Checks and balances is what has made our democracy successful. My hope is that the encumbants(Democrat and Republican) aren't given a free pass for the mess we are in, because they are able to blame Bush. Everyone in power at this moment should be evaluated.

mixed feelings. I am a conservative democrat who supported McCain in 2000. Didnt agree with a lot of his moral stuff but here was a politian who was his own man. A maverick indeed. He went with what he believed in and didnt really care what others thought. He challenged people here, overseas, everywhere. I think he exemplified 'American.'

Watching him over the last 6 years or so was just sad, and it culminated in his campain. He sold out. He was desperate to be president and he lost the one thing that would have made him great, or at least could have.

I dont know if Obama will be a good president. He was certainly the right candidate, and earned this win. He has demonstrated an uncanny ability to rally people and bring people together. His organization is unparalled. He is cool under pressure and mentally prepared. I voted for him and wish him well. Exciting times

wow what a night. this was the 9th presidential election i've participated i and i never felt anything before like what i felt after i pulled that lever yesterday. I felt a rush of energy and happiness coming out of that booth, pure excitement. took a picture of my ballot before pulling the lever (inspired by andrew).

what made it even more special was i voted alongside my son, who was castling his first-ever ballot. we went home, cooked up a storm, parked it in front of cnn (and uk.com () and the phone did not stop ringing all night. everyone was connecting up over this one. my boy was running in and out on his skateboard to party in the street with friends. i was texting with that loser dj. I was loving reading the testimonies of eny, seb, cookd et al. just sweet!

and let me tell you, as an old f**k lifelong liberal who participated in the vietnam moratorium and hated nixon with the same ferocity i do w, this is one sweet-ass day!!!!

Hey, I am 60, and it has taken me 60 years to see this. And well worth it.

It is just wonderful. I had seen Obama at a rallye in Iowa last summer and exchanged a few ideas with him. This was when his run for the presidency was just starting and Hillary was dominating the polls. He exuded a charisma that I hadn't seen in a President since JFK. I felt like I had gone back in history.

I have spoken with and received emails from friends in other countries.... Canada, Australia, India, Iran , and the amount of happiness they are feeling is overwelming. It is like Obama is now their President, and they are looking forward to him taking office. They just know the world will be a better place!
