You can say all what you want about the Pistons this season playing better, but if that is so its because Flip Saunders has just added to Brown's work. Flip as just made them a better offensive team, an area where Brown isn't exactly the best coach. But Flip has a Piston's team that learned under Brown how to play the right way, playing strong defense, making the right decision, making the extra pass, being unselfish. Flip has added a new dimension to them, but they would be no where without those two intense years under Brown... Just like Brown added to Carisle's work.
Thats true. He took them from a good level to a great one. They ended up being champions. How are the Pacers these days?
In Brown's last season with the Pacers (96-97) he was the ninth seed and missed the playoffs and had no major injuries. The next season, Larry Bird took the same exact team to 59 wins and Game 7 of the Eastern Finals against the Super Bulls. Larry Brown isn't the best coach ever. The Pistons winning a title might have had something to do with them trading for Rasheed Wallace. MIGHT.
Remember when we were all pining for Sheed and thinking with Steph and Sheed we could get to the Finals in a weak East? Well that's what actually happened to the Pistons. Brown was along for the ride, wetting his pants on all the fast parts. Fu!k that guy. Give me JVG or Riles, a coach who can adapt his style to the talent in front of him.
